In 2016, Jeff gave me a bottle of Molton Brown Ylang Ylang Body Wash (mentioned in my 2016 Bath & Body Favorites) after I tried a travel size that came in my Barney’s GWP bag. The full size bottle lasted me a year, and the scent was divine.
Molton Brown London makes about a million scents of bath and shower gel/body wash. I’m just getting started!
Recently I received Molton Brown Delicious Rhubarb & Rose Bath & Shower Gel.
I love how they add “delicious” to the name! Frankly, I don’t know if I would have chosen this scent on my own because I usually gravitate toward gourmand, citrus or spicy scents when it comes to shower gels, but it’s always fun to try something new that’s outside of one’s regular comfort zone. Plus I am a fan of rose scents.
So what does rhubarb smell like? Jeff grows it in his garden, and I cook and bake with it, but it doesn’t have a particular scent IMO. Nevertheless, the idea of rhubarb paired with rose was intriguing.
Molton Brown describes Delicious Rhubarb & Rose this way: “Our most delicious fragrance; this luxurious body wash is a distinctive delicacy of rhubarb leaf and rose with a zesty grapefruit twist.”
- Top notes: grapefruit, yuzu and lemongrass.
- Heart notes: rhubarb leaf, rose and spearmint.
- Base notes: vanilla, musk and spun sugar.
After using Molton Brown Rhubarb & Rose for a couple of weeks, I find myself looking for excuses to take a shower. I think Rhubarb & Rose is a perfect summer scent. The top notes grapefruit, yuzu and lemongrass really come through. In fact, I would describe the initial scent as tart or sharp. But then it calms down as the heart and base notes kick in, and it has a hint of the fruit tart about it. It’s a terrific scent to use to wake up in the morning, but then I enjoy using it at night as well. The scent lingers on my skin and in the bathroom for a few minutes after my shower, but then it disappears so it doesn’t compete with any fragrances I use later.
The lovely scent can be extended by following up with the body lotion, hand wash, hand cream, and hand lotion. How luxurious!
Molton Brown bath & shower gels are thick, rich liquids. I love the rose pink color of this one.
A little goes a long way especially if you use it on a pouf, loofah or washcloth. It makes the right amount of lather. I use it when I shave my legs because it makes a nice lather for smooth shaving. It doesn’t strip my skin at all, and it leaves my skin hydrated, though I always follow with body lotion or body butter because my skin dries out so fast.
Check out the complete lineup of Molton Brown’s bath & shower gel on their website. The 10 fl. oz./100 ml size clear plastic bottle that I have retails for $32. But Molton Brown is having several Labor Day promotions including this one which is about a $5 savings plus free shipping:
And with Ebates, you can save another 3%. Molton Brown bath and body products are also sold at Molton Brown stores as well as at fine retailers like Barney’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, bluemercury, Nordstrom, and Lord & Taylor.

I’ve seen this brand here at Winners but never bought anything, time to pick one up when I see them again.
Molton Brown makes such fabulous bath and body products, Shireen. Definitely a little luxury worth buying!
Well, let’s see: I love Molton Brown, I love their body washes and I love rhubarb and strawberry, and I don’t have this particular scent. I think that it is fairly clear that I “NEED” this! It sounds utterly divine!
This MB shower gel is Rhubarb & Rose, and I think you’d love the scent, Helen!
I haven’t tried any of their products, but that sounds really nice!
I have no idea what rhubarb tastes or smells like (interesting that you say it doesn’t have a smell!) but I am intrigued by this! I haven’t tried them before.
When I pick rhubarb or cook it, I don’t really smell much of anything – it’s the strawberries that I often mix rhubarb with or even the sugar that I smell. To me, the Rhubarb & Rose Shower Gel smells mostly of yuzu, a sharp citrusy scent: bracing and unusual but very pleasant!
Rose is one of the few scents I loathe, but based on the overall scent description, I am intrigued and just may love this one!
Frankly, I don’t smell the rose in Rhubarb & Rose Shower Gel at all. The yuzu note is definitely the strongest. It smells citrusy and sharp IMO
I read the title and realized I didn’t really know what rhubarb smells like. I’m so glad you shared your thoughts on what a natural rhubarb (lack of?) scent is actually haha
I don’t smell much of anything when I pick rhubarb or when I cook with it on its own.
Like the rest, I have no clue how rhubarb smells so I need to sniff one soon! Looks like I’m not missing out really coz it doesn’t smell after all….
Let me know if you discover that rhubarb has a real scent!!
They have some beautiful packaging and the scent sounds delish.
They make some of the best shower gels I’ve ever used. This one sounds delicious!
It’s such an unusual but intriguing scent, Stacie
What an unusual combination of scents! I’ll have to track it down for a sniff myself
I’m with you that it’s not a scent I would gravitate toward but you’ve convinced me that I need to go and smell this. I know Molton Brown makes high quality products!
Rose is a scent Im not a fan off so I’m liking that you said its not too strong!
Molton Brown makes such luxe bath and beauty products. I don’t like rhubarb but I know they have lots of great scents.
I grow and cook with rhubarb, but I never noticed a scent specifically associated with the plant or with cooking it alone. When you mentioned that you didn’t like rhubarb scent, I looked it up, and rhubarb is tart and sharp with grapefruit notes, like a green citrus. That is pretty much what the top notes of Rhubarb & Rose smell like, and then it deepens and becomes more complex as time goes on, but it is an unusual fragrance. But you’re right about Molton Brown, they make about a million different scents, and there is definitely something or somethings for everybody
This particular scent sounds divine! Totally something I would love! I need to see if I can find it here!
I’ve never heard of Molton Brown but it sounds nice. The scent is certainly intriguing too! I’ll have to check them out, I love a good shower gel!
Thanks for sharing, I haven’t tried this line yet — and also thanks for the reminder about Ebates! I love saving money!
