When I heard that Too Faced was coming out with the Chocolate Bon Bons eyeshadow palette, I knew I had to have it. You know I’m crazy about hearts.
As an avid heart collector, how could I not? I waited patiently till it was launched, and I bought it immediately because I couldn’t wait any longer. Then it arrived about a month or so ago, and I hadn’t even used it yet! It was too cute to use. I have this crazy behavior of “saving things” that I like so I don’t spoil them. Sometimes I’ll find a special chocolate candy bar that I put in the cupboard to save, and then it’s two years later and I have to throw it out. What’s up with that?
Well, today I broke it out to do a practice run at a look for Valentine’s weekend. I told Jeff over a week ago where I wanted to go for Valentine’s dinner on Saturday night instead of Sunday, but he forgot to make a reservation so we’re SOL on that one. We’re trying a backup now, and it looks like that has come through.
For my Vday look, I used five of the shades from the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons palette. Those five, listed further on in the post, went on with no fallout, were easy to apply over primer and blend, and have lasted well. When I swatched all of the shades over Milani Eyeshadow Primer, the shimmer shadows all went on like butter while some of the mattes were a little stiffer and a wee bit harder to apply. But so far, I would still say a big thumb’s up for this adorable palette with the heart-shaped pans! In addition to 14 shadows, there are two highlights, one shimmer and one pale matte. The matte highlighter, Divinity, is very light, and didn’t show up very well against my skin. If you have darker skin, I would imagine it would be fine.
Below are the swatches, and the shades are in order: Almond Truffle, Sprinkles, Molasses Chip, Malted, Cashew Chew, Cotton Candy, Cafe Au Lait
Next up are: Bordeaux, Mocha, Black Currant, Dark Truffle, Pecan Praline, Totally Fetch, Early Grey
and the highlighters Divinity matte ivory, Satin Sheets a pale gold shimmer
BTW, Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons palette smells like chocolate, and you can smell it from the minute you open the metal box. But the shadows don’t have any discernible scent when you wear them.
Today was a snow storm so I didn’t go out anywhere, and it was fun to put on a full face of makeup and then jog on my treadmill. I even put on a couple of individual false lashes!
Before trying the individual lashes, I tried a pair of Ardell Press On Lash full lashes that I bought on sale a while ago because I thought they’d be easier to apply. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get them to stay on for me. My fault, I’m sure. But truth be told, I like the look of adding a couple of long individual lashes at the end of my lashline to give my downturned eyes a more lifted look.
As you can see, I went with a primarily pink and purple Valentine’s look, and I placed a little heart on the shades that I used from the Chocolate Bon Bons palette:
- Sprinkles, light pink shimmer, in the inner corner
- Cotton Candy, medium pink, on the lid
- Mocha, milk chocolate matte, in the crease
- Black Currant, deep purple shimmer, in the outer V
- Cafe Au Lait, silvery very light chocolate, along the lower lashline
I also tried using Cafe Au Lait wet as a liner, but I didn’t have luck with that. But it is a gorgeous shadow shade, and I plan to use that in a major way in my look for the upcoming weekend. I used a little Satin Sheets, the pale golden shimmer highlighter, on the bridge of my rose and at the top of my cheeks.

- Urban Decay 24/7, Voodoo
- Shiseido Lash Curler
- Peter Lamas Lash Masque, lash primer
- Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
- Mirabella The Brow Pencil, Light
- Urban Decay 24/7 Universal Lip Pencil, Ozone
- Tat2U Lip Creme Extreme, Sweet Serendipity, Plum Rose Pink with a light bronze frost
- Ardell Invidiual Lashes
I definitely intend to use the Chocolate Bon Bons palette for my real Vday look, but as I mentioned above I’ll use different shades to get more experience with the palette. My favorites based on the swatches are Molasses Chip, Cotton Candy, Cafe Au Lait, Bordeaux, Black Currant, and Earl Grey.

Jill St. John! What a beauty. I’ve always worn pinks, and hot pinks/fuchsias are my favorites. I have neutral undertones to my skin, which helps. I think anyone can wear any color, it’s just a matter of finding the right shades. And wearing whatever makes one happy.
I’m not a natural redhead, though. (I’m really a brunette). My natural hair has lots of red undertones in it. My grandmother was a redhead, so I have the fair skin, freckles, and light eyes. I dye it because red suits my personality and coloring. Plus, if I don’t, the sun bleaches it a coppery strawberry blonde color that’s not flattering on me.
Glad that you appreciate Jill St. John too! I agree that anyone with neutral or cool undertones does great with pink. I was born a blonde, and as I got older my hair turned to a honey/wheat germ shade and I tried making it blonder but I looked washed out. Like you, I was meant to be a redhead! Yay us!
