A few weeks ago, I received a sampling of hand-crafted mineral-based makeup products to try out. They are from Fusion of Color Cosmetics, a Chicago-area based brand created by Kathy Duncan in 2003.
Here is the website’s description of the brand and the benefits of Fusion of Color Cosmetics mineral makeup:
- Fusion of Color Cosmetics are created from real minerals taken directly from the earth. These minerals are then processed into a fine powder and mixed with natural inorganic colors to produce a wide variety of colors. It does not matter what skin tone you have, from very light porcelain to a dark undertone and every shade in between, there is a mineral cosmetic that can perfectly match your skin. Minerals offer very good and buildable coverage that doesn’t feel like you’re wearing any makeup at all.
- The main ingredients in mineral cosmetics are inorganic. Simply stated there is no organic material in it to grow bacteria. Also, with the use of inorganic ingredients in the makeup gives the makeup a very long and stable shelf life. Fusion of Color Mineral makeup is the best to use because it adheres to the natural oils in a person’s skin and doesn’t seep into the pores.
- The benefits of using natural mineral cosmetics is what makes them so popular today:
- Proprietary formulations
- Custom made By Fusion of Color never repackaged
- Our colorants we use are custom made by us, this makes our colors unique and – different
- Manufactured in small batches to ensure color consistency and freshness
- Women all over the world enjoy our distinctive and affordable line of mineral makeup.
- Our products are striking in a variety of textures and hues for every skintone
- Provides exceptional coverage of any distraction including redness and brown spots
- Free of oil, talc, dyes and parabens
- Ideal for those who suffer from skin conditions such as eczema and rosacea
- ideal for all skin types, all skin tones and women of all ages.
Fusion of Color Cosmetics was featured in Lucky Magazine as a Best Pick in Chicago. Woo hoo! The article mentions that Kathy custom blends foundations to match her clients’ skintones and special skin needs. Gee, I wish I were in Chicago. I love the idea of custom-blended foundation. Choosing the right shade is so difficult. I love the Fusion of Color can take the guesswork out of finding the right foundation shade.
Another thing that’s also great about Fusion of Color is that they sell samples. I just love that! The samples cost about $2 on average. What a wonderful way to try out a new shade or product I haven’t tried before. I received 4 samples:
- 2 eyeshadows: Rendezvous, a shell pink with a soft shimmer and Java, a medium/dark matte brown
- one blush: Rose Petal
- Aura Tint Diamond Powder in yellow that functions as a color corrector to balance out redness and to diminish the look of lines and wrinkles.
For some reason, I was initially concerned about trying loose pigments. I thought they might be difficult to work with, or they might settle into my lines and wrinkles, or they might be too shimmery. Was I ever wrong! They were a breeze to use, they look light and wonderful on my over 40 eyes. I have used mineral foundation for years, and I used these in the same manner. The blush and shadow samples came in sifter containers, and I just shook out a little into the cap, dipped my brush in, tapped off the excess and applied, building as needed. The mineral powders were very long lasting, lasting me all day with almost no fading. The pink and brown eyeshadows are subtle, though the brown certainly could pack a punch in a smoky eye. I was blown away by the range of shadow shades – at least 50 of them! – that include both mattes and shimmers. The Rose Petal blush is a lovely medium matte pink with a hint of purple, but I believe there are about 60 blush shades to choose from. Can you believe the variety?
The Aura Tint Diamond Powder was similar IMHO to Hourglass Ambient Lighting or Ben Nye Banana Powder in that it provided color correction, highlighting when used beneath the eyes, and a general softness and glow. Lovely.
Fusion of Color also sent me Perfect Canvas Youthful Eyes, a moisturizer for the eye area that also helps to minimize dark circles, lines and wrinkles. Initially, I didn’t read about the product, and I assumed it was an eye primer. I used it instead of Urban Decay Anti-aging Eye Primer, and I must say it did a great job. The Fusion of Color eyeshadows went on easily and stayed put all day with no creasing! But it is a treatment product/moisturizer that can be applied under makeup or over makeup if the eye area feels dry throughout the day. Love that!
Finally, I received Sass Lipgloss in Pretty in Pink. The lipgloss is made with shea butter, vitamin E, aloe, and plant waxes. Thankfully, it does NOT have peppermint oil, my nemesis 😉 I have very sensitive lips, and I adore this pretty dusty rose sheer lipgloss. It is so soothing, and it’s not very sticky like some glosses can be. It comes in an easy to use, dial-up tube with a slant tip that makes it easy to apply even without a mirror.
Here are the swatches of the shades I received. I put on a lot of the Aura Tint Diamond Powder in yellow so it would show up on my arm, but it really is a finely-milled powder that is invisible.
Fusion of Color Cosmetics are gluten-free, cruelty-free, vegan, and natural! They are sold via its website, and the products are affordably priced. Importantly, they ship internationally! When I visited the website, I was offered a 10% discount on my next purchase for signing up for the newsletter 🙂 You really must check it out! I know you’ll love these gentle pigments in many beautiful colors. They are perfect for all ages and skin tones. In fact, there is a Women of Color foundation line with an array of shades. I’m a Fusion of Color convert, for sure!

I really enjoyed trying Fusion of Color, too! That Sassy lipgloss looks so good on you, I may need to go back and try some of those. I do love the lipstick that I tried, though.. I didn’t try the eye cream, but the beauty balm was one of my faves, too – really great consistency. Great find.
