100% PURE Bakuchiol Cleanser

As I’ve said many times over the past couple of years, clean beauty is having a moment. At this point, it’s much more than a moment. Many people are choosing “clean beauty” or natural brands without preservatives and harsh chemicals because they are easier to use for sensitive skin or skin with allergies to specific ingredients. Makes sense to me.

Several weeks ago, I was given an opportunity to try out a new-to-me clean beauty brand, 100% PURE. I received three products, and today I will talk about one of them.

100% PURE Background

I’m always interested in what a new brand stands for, their purpose or mission. Here is the mission statement from the three 30-something (I think) founders of 100% PURE:

100% PURE™ isn’t just our name. Or just our ingredient list. 100% PURE™ is a commitment to producing the purest, healthiest products and educating everyone on why being 100% PURE™ is so important. We strive to live with compassion, kindness and empathy; to be environmentally sustainable and to improve the lives of 6 billion people and animals while also being charitable and giving back to our global community.

Not surprisingly, all the products at 100% PURE are completely cruelty-free with ingredients sourced from non-animal sources. Many are vegan and gluten-free as well. Their makeup is pigmented with fruit, vegetables, tea, and cocoa to avoid commonly used FD&C colorants and heavy metal dyes.  Their product formulations adhere to strict purity standards and do not contain harsh or toxic ingredients.

As a “natural” brand, 100% PURE impressed me because they actually give their definition of natural:

An ingredient or formula composed of plant, mineral, and/or marine vegetation that undergoes chemical changes due to biological processes such as fermentation, distillation, and cold processing.

Made in the U.S., 100% PURE makes skincare, hair and body care products as well as makeup and a nail polish called Zero that I’ve been seeing everywhere online lately.

100% PURE Bakuchiol Cleanser

First, Bakuchiol is a plant-derived form of Retinol that doesn’t irritate skin the way Retinol can for some people. It encourages cell turnover to lighten dark spots for a more even skin tone. It also smoothes fine lines. Oddly enough, I had never tried a skincare product with Bakuchiol Oil, so I was eager for this chance to try 100% PURE Bakuchiol Cleanser.

Ingredients

In addition to Bakuchiol Oil, the cleanser contains Kojic and Lactic Acids, two other more gentle acids used in skincare products to exfoliate, smooth and brighten skin. Other brightening ingredients in the formula are lemongrass and licorice.

Ingredients: Vegetable Glycerin, Decyl Glucoside (Plant Derived), Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Beet Lactic Acid, Kojic Acid (Rice Derived), Bakuchiol Oil, Cymbopogon Flexuosus (Lemongrass) Oil, Citrus Sinensis (Sweet Orange) Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Oil, Citric Acid (To Balance pH)

How to Use the Cleanser

The Cleanser is an oil, but if I am wearing eye makeup, I remove it first with micellar water because my eyes are so sensitive. I use Bakuchiol Cleanser as the second step in my two-step cleansing routine when I’m wearing makeup.

First, I wet my skin and then apply about a pump’s worth of Bakuchiol Cleanser. I massage it onto my skin and it makes a slight foam. Then I remove it with a facecloth or natural sponge.

What I Love About 100% PURE Bakuchiol Cleanser

There are two things that I especially love about 100% PURE Bakuchiol Cleanser:

  1. the natural and absolutely divine lemongrass scent that helps lighten dark spots
  2. the oil that is perfect for giving myself a face massage.

Honestly, when I use this cleanser, my skin not only feels incredibly soft and smooth, but the muscles on my face feel toned and relaxed after I massage the oil in and on my face. My skin also has a nice glow after cleansing with it. I’ve been using it for about a month, but after using brightening skincare products for about 10 years, the recalcitrant dark spots that are left on my face would need to be removed with IPL.

The pump bottle that the cleanser comes in contains 3.4 fl. oz./100 ml and is priced at $35. It is sold on the 100% PURE website.

If you are a fan of cleansing with oil and are looking for a retinol alternative, I strongly recommend trying 100% PURE Bakuchiol Cleanser. 100% PURE also makes a Bakuchiol Serum and Moisturizer for the full effect!

This fabulous cleanser has no synthetic fragrance, but the lemongrass does have a noticeable scent that wonderful for me, but not sure about for you.
