I had my New Year’s Eve outfit, jewelry and makeup all planned out, but this year I had to pass on my plans. But I still want to share the gorgeous lipstick and lipliner that I intended to wear that night. A vampy red lipstick from The Edge Beauty. I know I’ll be wearing it often in 2016, a perfect shade for glam nights!
The Edge Beauty brand was new to me, and I didn’t receive any info with it when it arrived at my doorstep. So I was surprised to learn that it’s an exclusive brand developed for and sold only at Dillard’s. It launched in Fall 2015 and it’s part of The Edge Beauty, a Sephora-style beauty department within 121 of the Dillard’s stores. There appears to be a complete line of The Edge Beauty makeup. Of course, The Edge Beauty products are sold on Dillards.com, too, which is great because we don’t have Dillard’s in Massachusetts. But when I travel for business, I take every opportunity to stop in to Dillard’s. I think they’re beautiful stores with fabulous merchandise. How awesome that they created their own beauty brand!
And you should see the packaging! It’s a wow!
The outer boxes have an eye-catching, modern silver and white 3D design.
The Edge Beauty Iconic Lipstick
The Edge Beauty Iconic Lipstick tube is incredible. It has a thick, clear, heavy plastic exterior with the same silver and white 3D pattern on the inside as if it were surrounding the inner bullet tube. And it opens in a unique way: you click on the bottom of the tube and it pops out, and then you pull out the bullet. Also unique is the mini magnifying mirror on top of the tube that’s just big enough to use to apply the lipstick! Love that little touch.
The lipstick shade I received is aptly called Provocative. It’s a highly pigmented, deep burgundy red, and it’s gorgeous! As I mentioned, it’s a vampy shade that would look especially great paired with an outfit in black, grey, white, burgundy, or silver. But it would probably look terrific with many colors. In fact, I had planned to wear it with a deep green and black tunic.
I found it was easier to apply this deep berry red with a lip brush. It goes on creamy and glossy. After a while on my dry lips (I should have used a lip scrub before I took the photo!), it dried down to a semi-matte finish. I wore it with lipliner, and there was no feathering. It lasted on my lips with no need for a touch up for almost 6 hours. If I hadn’t eaten dinner, it would probably still be on my lips. In fact, after I finished dinner, you could still see a deep red stain on my lips.
In addition to Provocative, The Edge Beauty Iconic Lipstick comes in 7 other shades, primarily different shades of red and neutrals. It was a very, very faint vanilla scent. $20. Made in Italy.

The Edge Beauty Iconic Lipliner
I also received an Iconic Lipliner in a twist-up slim tube, so no sharpening required. It’s creamy and oh-so-easy to apply. The color I received is Spicy, an orange-brown. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really go with the Provocative lipstick shade, though I did give ’em a go together. I think the red shade, Racy, would have been a better fit. But Spicy will go with other lipsticks that I own. Their are 4 shades of The Edge Beauty Iconic Lipliner, and they’re priced at $16. Made in Germany.
While looking at Spicy, I thought I’d try it as a brow pencil and it’s a great shade for me! In fact, I like it better than some of the other eyebrow pencils I’ve got! So now it’ll do double duty lol, though it is a little thicker than a traditional brow pencil.

There used to be a Dillard’s about 20 minutes away from me but it closed years ago. I only shopped there once though.
I’m hoping the only remaining department store near me, Macy’s, won’t be closed with their next round of closings. So sad. I still love department stores in spite of the fact that online shopping is easier. I love to see stuff in person, even if I’m not buying 😉

I think The Edge of Beauty launched at Dillard’s in September. The lipstick and lipliner are both gorgeous – though the shades I received don’t go together lol! The lipstick packaging is a knock out! I hope they are at your Dillard’s coz they are definitely worth a look!

I didn’t know you were in Oregon, Rachel. My roommate and close friend from my NYC days was from Corvalis. Her parents drove me all around that area and to the coast some years ago. So beautiful. And I love Portland. I guess Dillard’s stores are located in the south and midwest, maybe? I’ve been to them in TX and in Atlanta, I think. They’re nice stores. I think launching their own brand is an interesting idea. And the quality is definitely there!

I think I actually worked in Hillsboro one of the days I was in Portland for a research project for essence cosmetics. I went to a Fred Meijer store to interview teens about the brand. There was a beautiful view of the mountains on the way. Does that sound right?

Yes, the lipliner was quite an amazing brow pencil. I’ve done it before with a Milani lipliner that’s a great match for my brows. The Edge Beauty Iconic Lipliner is very creamy and soft, and perhaps a little too heavy for my brows but it went on like a breeze! I like this brand. Wish we had a Dillard’s near here. I’d like to see the rest of the line in person 🙂
