Mid-Summer Pedicure with Soakees and Amope

A pedicure usually lasts me about 4 weeks, but this time I really pushed it. Six weeks is a long time to go, especially wearing red polish on my toes (the growth is much more noticeable). So last night I finally got around to doing an at-home pedi while I watched the Olympics.

The first thing I did was remove the red polish with Zoya 3-in-1 Polish Remover. It’s pricier than the store brand remover, but it’s a good thing to buy with the Ulta 20% off coupon or even their $3.50 off of $10 coupon. I bought the big bottle and it has lasted me forever. Not only is it terrific at removing hard to get off polish, but it has built-in conditioner.

Amope Pedi Perfect Extra Coarse Electronic Foot File

Although I’ve been walking barefoot in the sand at the beach for a couple of months now, my feet were not baby smooth like I thought they would be. They definitely needed some help. Often I do the Listerine/vinegar soak, but I thought I’d use my handy, easy to use Amope Pedi Perfect Extra Coarse Pedicure Electronic Foot File.

Lots of other beauty bloggers were writing about this for a campaign during the holiday season that I didn’t get picked for boo hoo, but their reviews convinced me that I needed an Amope. Fortunately, CVS had a good coupon and I used it to buy the extra strength version of the Amope. It was the best money I’ve ever spent. It gives me baby soft feet.

If you have frequent dry skin on your feet, you need an Amope. Trust me on this. I use it on my heels and on all the callouses that I get. As a runner, my feet can definitely get beat up looking. My Amope helps in a flash.

The difference between the Extra Coarse (pink) and the regular Amope (blue) is the coarseness of the “diamond crystals” on the rotating replaceable roller. I’ve had mine now for about 8 months, and I still haven’t needed to replace the roller.

Soakees Slip-On and Tie Foot Bath

A few weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to try Soakees Slip-On and Tie Foot Bath. I had never heard of this cool invention, and I had no idea what to expect. I received a pair of big (so they fit any size feet!) heavy plastic booties with ties around the top.

The way it works is I fill each one with about 3 cups of hot/warm water and then put my foot in and tie it around the top. While my feet are soaking, I can work on my computer, or sit and watch TV or read a book, whatever.

Sometimes I add epsom salts to the booties, or I add my Listerine/vinegar concoction (read my foot soak post here). This time, I did a plain water soak.

The benefits of using Soakees rather than a plastic tub are:

  • the water stays hot much longer
  • you’re not stuck sitting in the bathroom with your feet in a tub of water, you can do whatever you want
  • they’re portable – you can easily bring them on vacation for your own spa.

I relaxed and watched the swimming at the Olympics for about 15 minutes. Then removed my feet from the Soakees and dumped out the water.

My feet felt so soft and soothed! Lovely

Milani Nail Lacquer

After wearing red polish for 6 weeks, I was due for a change. I went neutral. I picked out my favorite nail polish shade, Milani Pink Beige, and I painted my toes and my finger nails on top of OPI Base coat. I finished with a coat of Seche Vite.

And that’s it. Now my feet will look much better in sandals and barefoot on the beach.

Do you do at-home pedis? What are your favorite pedi tools? What do you think about the Soakees and Amope?

Oh Allison ! I just love that shade of nail polish on you. Interesting concept with the Soakees.

    1. Thank you so much, Laura! I think Pink Beige is my favorite and most flattering shade, too. I’ve gotta scour the Milani displays and see if I can find another bottle before it disappears, if it hasn’t already. What’s your favorite shade? And yes, the Soakees were a complete surprise. They really are easier to use than digging out my plastic tub, and the water definitely stays warmer longer than in the tub. I like ’em!

  2. I wanted to purchase the Amope Pedi but wow, it’s pricey so I bought a 4 in 1 bamboo foot file instead. Haha! And I love the Soakee, what a great concept! I’ll need to look for it here and also pick up that Milani nail polish. I’ve tried a bright blue one from Milani and it the quality was great. It also lasted a long time before chipping!

    1. Aren’t those Soakees cool? They’re sold on Amazon. I was sent the complete set of Milani polishes 2 years ago, and I love the formula and the brush – so easy to apply without a lot of mistakes! Shireen, I thought the Amope was expensive too, but with the coupon from CVS, I ended up paying about $20 for it and it was the best $20 I’ve ever spent. It makes a great holiday gift!

    1. those exfoliating booties sound very interesting too!

  9. Great post even if I couldn’t bend enough to paint my toes! The booties sound better than a tub or bucket and much neater too.

    1. The booties were a real surprise, Marcia! In addition to being neater as you point out, the fact that I don’t have to search for my plastic tub that’s always filled with items that should be stored elsewhere, is key for me! And I like that the water stays warmer longer. It is an odd sensation to have water sloshing around my feet, kinda cool though 🙂

  10. You had me at Soakees! I’m going to check them out!

    1. They’re much easier for me to pull out to use than a plastic tub, and the water stays hot longer. I’m sold on Soakees! I think you’d like ’em!

  11. I’m loving everything here. I keep telling myself that I have to get Amope because my feet are a disaster but somehow I keep putting on the back shelf. Now I want those Soakees. And the polish is so Molly Ringwald. Love it.

    1. I have such dry feet, I knew I was a candidate for the extra coarse. I was concerned it might hurt, but not at all. I think you’d like it next time

  13. I love my Amope. And I just got a contact from Soakees but couldn’t figure out if I wanted to try them. They look fun for sure. Love that color 😉

    1. It took me a while to get to use the Soakees, but now that I have, they are so much easier to use for a foot soak than finding and getting out my plastic tub that’s filled with other stuff, plus it keeps the water warmer longer, and I don’t have to be stuck in the bathroom unless I want to be. I think Soakees are worth trying, Honey. They’re fun & convenient

  14. Enjoyed your review of the amope but love the soakies…what an concept!! I think I want a pair of those and buy some for my Mom, too!!

    1. The Amope is a must have if you have dry skin on your feet. But the Soakees are fun, keep the water warm longer and they’re so soothing. Great gift idea, both actually
