I am a bargain hunter. It’s rare when I buy something at full price or over a certain amount. But occasionally, something comes along that I cannot resist. Such was the case with TATCHA’s Limited Edition 23K Gold Illuminated Sunrise Lipstick that was introduced earlier this year and sold out within weeks.
TATCHA, known for Geisha-inspired skincare from Japan, doesn’t really do makeup. But they have two limited edition lipsticks in their makeup arsenal. A gorgeous red, TATCHA Kyoto Lipstick was released at least a year ago. The second shade is described as plum blossom and is called Sunrise. Although I adore red lipsticks, I don’t wear them as often as I do more neutral shades. So it wasn’t a difficult decision for me to go with Sunrise. Kyoto had been reintroduced several weeks ago for the holidays, and I was hoping that TATCHA would bring back Sunrise too. And they did. It was announced last week. I hesitated because at $55 this is one seriously expensive lipstick! But I ultimately took the plunge.
The lipstick arrived in a classic indigo TATCHA box. The attention to detail in TATCHA products is amazing. The lipstick was nestled in an inner box, and there was a gold ribbon pull to help remove the inner box from the outer packaging. So nice.
The white lipstick case with gold accents was crafted from very solid metal, and it feels so substantial in my hand. The top of the case locks onto the bottom.
There is a golden lotus logo on the top of the case, and a smaller lotus is the clasp at the bottom of the case.
The top of the lipstick bullet looks faceted like a gemstone or like it has been intricately carved. I can’t stop looking at it! And the bullet is long – there seems to be a lot of lipstick, thankfully.
The “plum blossom” shade is a pink/mauve with a slight golden undertone, a very flattering shade. I thought that it might have a gold shimmer, but fortunately, it doesn’t. It has the warmth of gold but no glitter.
The formula of the lipstick feels very creamy on application, and it has a lustrous finish. It goes on like a dream, and feels very lightweight on my lips. It contains botanicals for hydration though I would describe it as neither hydrating nor drying. It is unscented.
Sunrise lasts on my lips for a couple of hours, and it fades evenly. After eating dinner, the lipstick was mostly gone but you could still see a bit of it outlining my lips, and a bit of the color was left behind on my lips. This is not advertised as a long-wearing lipstick, and truth be told, half of the fun is whipping out the gorgeous white and gold case to reapply!
I love this lipstick! What do you think?
Check out Sunrise on the TATCHA website. Made in Japan. Cruelty-free. $55. But google TATCHA discount code and see if you can come up with one. Retail Me Not had a 20% off coupon that may or may not work. Worth a try. Especially if the lipstick is still in stock!
To repeat myself, this lipstick is a splurge. But if you’re looking for something special to add to your holiday wish list, TATCHA Limited Edition 23K Gold Illuminated Sunrise Lipstick or the red Kyoto might be just the thing!
Absolutely gorgeous Allison!!! This lipstick purchase sounds like a wonderful experience and I’m so happy for you,at price point you want to be satisfied and it appears that Tatcha delivered. I love the color, just gorgeous and it definitely flatters you(Great picture)! I’m impressed with the lipstick all around, from the case to the exquisite details, thanks for the great review. 🙂
Thank you, Laura! I’m so glad that I was satisfied with this expensive purchase. It’s a beauty, I think too 🙂 Have you tried any TATCHA skincare? I like the fact that they have travel size products to try. And it is worth googling TATCHA discount code coz sometimes they work!
I had no idea that Tatcha has a makeup range too because all I ever heard and read about is their skincare. I don’t think I’ll ever splurge on this, $55 is a huge ton of money and it would be much pricier in C$. 🙁 It’s a stunning shade though and looks so lovely on you.

TATCHA really doesn’t do makeup, but it has these two lipsticks and they are relatively new. They are priced like Tom Ford lipsticks and maybe Guerlain. I never spend that much for a lipstick, but I have wanted this one since it came out earlier this year and sold out immediately. Now it’s sold out again. I think I’m glad I snagged it 😉
This is beautiful!

Thank you, Cindy! I’m wearing good old IT Cosmetics CC Cream. That CC cream is very dewy. I think this is the regular formula. I have the Illuminating formula as well but I think that one makes my skin look greasy so I won’t repurchase that one.
That lippie is so pretty on you and the packaging is lovely.

Thank you, Tiki! So glad you found the Mirabella mascara because I am almost finished with my current tube that’s been open for more than 3 months now, and it’s still my favorite mascara. I will gladly reimburse you for the postage! I don’t remember about the oil??
