Friday Find: Hanalei Lip Treatment

For a late summer Friday where not that many people are reading blogposts, I think I’ll go back to my feature, Friday Find, where I post a short review of something I found in my stash.

A couple of weeks ago, I found a deluxe sample of Hanalei Lip Treatment that I received from Ipsy some time ago. I’ve been saying that Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm is my HG lip balm, and it still is. But Hanalei Lip Treatment comes close. It’s a thick translucent ointment that’s not quite as thick as Dr. Lipp. It spreads very easily on my lips. It has a sweet taste when I first put it on. It does a great job hydrating my lips. Though I haven’t tried it during the winter since I started using it in the summer (though my lips get dry year round), it seems like it will work then too because it’s so rich.

Like Dr. Lipp, it has lanolin (so it’s not vegan), and it also contains petrolatum. I know some people avoid petrolatum, but for my super dry lips, lanolin and petrolatum (the first two ingredients) are the most effective in healing or keeping my lips moisturized. But in addition, it contains shea butter as well as  hydrating oils like agave, grape seed and kukui seed oil (a super hydrating oil from the kukui nut – so if you have a nut allergy, this isn’t for you).

In addition to the clear version that I received, Hanalei Lip Treatment comes in rose. I received a deluxe travel size (5 ml/0.17 oz.). The full size contains 1.5 oz./15 g and is priced at $20. Made in the U.S.

I really love Hanalei Lip Treatment. And I’m not the only one. There are 470 reviews that are almost all positive, raves even, and 403 out of 470 give it 5 stars. If you’re in the market for a seriously hydrating lip treatment that leaves your lips so so smooth and soft, check out Hanalei Lip Treatment.

Ingredients: Lanolin, Petrolatum, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Beeswax, Aleurites Moluccana (Kukui) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea butter), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Agave Tequilana Leaf Extract, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil Unsaponifiables, Vanillin, Sodium Saccharin, Glyceryl Rosinate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Phenoxyethanol

  1. I know many in the beauty FB groups that I am in are huge fans of this! They are constantly looking for it and buying off anyone who received it through ipsy.

    1. I’m not surprised to hear that bloggers are trying to track down the Hanalei Lip Treatment samples, it is a wonderful lip balm, the best I’ve tried since I discovered Dr. Lipp two years ago, and it spreads more easily than Dr. Lipp. Great stuff indeed

  2. This sounds like a really effective lip balm! I know a lot of people avoid both lanolin and petrolatum in lip products, but it’s great that this is so effective trading dry, chapped lips!

    1. Yes, it’s not vegan and not natural but it is super effective. For my post-menopausal super dry lips, vegan/natural options like Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask are good for a few minutes but don’t heal my lips so I’m glad that there are still options like this.

  3. I’ve never tried a beauty treatment for my lips other than sugar scrubs. This sounds nice. I need to look into it!

    1. It’s called a “treatment” rather than a “balm”, I think, because it’s so good at healing super dry lips.

  4. Sounds like a very hydrating lip balm. Wish they have something vegan and more natural

    1. Unfortunately, the vegan, natural ones don’t work for my super dry, post-menopausal lips. 🙁 I have an almost unused tube of pricey Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask gathering dust in my stash.

  5. Sounds like I’ll need this come winter!

    1. Definitely worth putting on your list!

  6. I’m going to have to check this out. The main reason I never wear lipstick is that it enhances the lines in my lips. Which never seem to go away no matter how many times I apply “chapstick”

    1. Hanalei Lip Treatment is so hydrating and it forms a barrier atop the lips so lipstick sort of floats on it. I use it whenever I wear liquid matte lipstick.

  7. I totally forgot about my Dr. Lipp, I used to love it so much too! This lip balm sounds wonderful as well, and I really like the name – it sounds so poetic when you pronounce it.

    1. Yes, it is poetic! If you have very dry lips like I do, both Dr. L and Hanalei are the best

  8. It sounds pretty wonderful, although I have to admit, I do avoid petrolatum when I can. I agree with you though, in the depth of winter (and I am so dry too), lanolin and petrolatum work very well.

    1. Unfortunately for me, lanolin and petrolatum are the only things that work. The natural ingredients are window dressing for me “cry”

  9. The lanolin would definitely up the hydrating qualities!

  10. I’m not familiar with this brand, but I would totally give this a try. It sounds amazing!
