Removing My Makeup with Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm

I forgot how much I love using a melting cleansing balm to remove my makeup. It is the perfect thing for winter because it helps hydrate while it removes makeup and cleanses. How perfect!

A few weeks ago, I received a tube of Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm to try. Merumaya was a new-to-me skincare brand that’s based in Britain. Merumaya emphasizes results-oriented skincare products made with great ingredients. The goal of their skincare products is “youthful aging” rather than anti-aging. In other words, they have a realistic, down-to-earth approach to skincare and to the promises they make to their customers. I like that.

In spite of the down-to-earth approach I just mentioned, Merumaya refers to their Melting Cleansing Balm as the “King of Cleansing Balms”. But I don’t fault them for coining that moniker. I agree. This is one heck of a terrific cleansing balm. The balm is made with natural sweet almond oil that is rich in vitamin E and is a wonderful hydrator. It contains nourishing Echium Oil from the seeds of the Echium plant, shown below, a vegan source of omega-3 rich oil. Echium oil contains a combination of omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids. The balm also contains mangosteen extract for anti-oxidant protection.

Echium plant

Here’s how they describe the key ingredients:

  • revitelix™ is Echium oil providing Omega 3, 6 & 9 to reduce lines and wrinkles, improve elasticity and participate in barrier repair. It helps rebuild the hydro lipid film as the skins surface and is also anti-irritant.
  • SUCRAGEL™ contains Sweet Almond Oil and acts as a ‘wash on’ moisturiser and leaves a velvety finish while thoroughly cleansing.
  • MANGOSTEEN FRUIT EXTRACT is rich in vitamins and polyphenols providing anti-oxidant protection.

Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm goes to work on the skin to remove makeup and impurities immediately because it doesn’t contain wax or beeswax that would need to be warmed and softened first.

I squeeze a small amount out of the tube and apply to my face with my fingers. Although in the tube, Melting Cleansing Balm has a pleasant but very light fresh scent, I can’t smell it on my skin. Next, I add a little warm water that turns the translucent Cleansing Balm to a milk. Then I either rinse it off with my hands or with a facecloth. Merumaya suggested using one of their Daily Cleansing Cloths, that I think is a muslin cloth that is typically used as a “hot cloth”. Unfortunately, muslim hot cloths never caught on here in the US. If you don’t want to use your hands or a facecloth, maybe a tissue would work? At any rate, it’s easy to rinse off!

Although Merumaya says to “avoid direct contact with the eyes”, I confess to you that I have used Melting Cleansing Balm to remove my eye makeup. I have extremely sensitive eyes, so I keep my eyes closed. While I probably should heed Merumaya’s instructions, their gentle cleansing balm does such a great job removing my eye makeup including Mirabella Waterproof Mascara that I take the chance. In addition to removing my eye makeup, it hydrates my lashes and the dry skin around my eyes. My skin feels insanely soft and moisturized afterwards. I love this stuff!

The directions on the tube say to follow up with a second cleansing with Melting Cleansing Balm for those of us with dry skin or with a different cleanser for those with oily skin, if desired. Sometimes I just use a Nip+Fab Glycolic Cleansing Pad, and that’s it. Then I follow with my serum(s) and anti-aging cream/moisturizer.

The materials that I received with Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm say that the balm is a multitasker. It can also be used as a mask, a lip balm, shaving cream, and body moisturizer. The consistency of the balm is perfect for any of those applications, too. But I use it only as a makeup remover and facial cleanser because it works so well for me for that purpose. 🙂

The tube of Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm contains 100 ml/3.4 oz. It’s priced in the UK at 18.50 pounds with free shipping within Britain. They have free international shipping over 50 pounds (a sale price right now), and they have an entire range of skincare products. Check out the Merumaya website for more information on the Melting Cleansing Balm as well as their other skincare products. And here’s a link to delivery info. I hope I can figure out how to buy this lovely cleansing balm once I use up my generously sized tube. I believe that Merumaya’s plan is to distribute in the U.S. at some point in the future. Soon, I hope!

  1. I hope it becomes more available in the US, it sounds great. There is something so satisfying about how your makeup melts off with a balm.

    1. Me, too, Judy! I love the consistency of this particular melting cleansing balm. It’s the best I’ve tried. They’re looking for a US distributor, and I hope they find one soon. (Good luck to you tomorrow!)

  2. I love this concept of “youthful aging” since there really is no way to “anti-age!” Melting cleansing balms feel so good on the skin, and this one sounds really effective. I love that you can also use it as a lip balm, moisturizer and shaving cream! I would definitely love to try this! Thanks for the in-deph review!

    1. Unfortunately, you’re right – there’s no way to anti-age, lol. This melting cleansing balm has the ideal consistency: it’s the best I’ve tried. Hope they find a US retailer to take them on coz I’d love to be able to buy more and to try their other skincare products!

  3. This cleansing balm has been raved about by all the UK bloggers whom I follow!

    1. It really is all that, Shireen. It has won a bunch of awards, and The Guardian newspaper named it King of Cleansing Balms because it was rated highest among all competitors. I wish they would find a distributor for North America so it would be easier for us to buy here!

  4. Now I remember, this is really popular among UK bloggers! I like the sound of cleansing balm

    1. It is a fantastic cleansing balm, and has won a bunch of awards in the UK. I so hope they find a US distributor!

  5. Hello. I loved reading your post. It’s conversational and made me smile. Of course I am very happy that you loved it. It was The Guardian Newspaper in the UK that tested 10 cleansing balms and ours scored highest. They called us the King of cleansing balms. If I were to be that immodest, I’d have said Queen! Our cloths are light weight flannels.
I’d love to be selling in the USA. I’m looking for a really cool, small Independant pharmacy or lifestyle store that is active on social platforms and will shop across the US. Please let me know if you can think of one. I used to work in the USA and selling there would give me the chance to visit much more often.
Thank you so much for trying my product and for taking the time to review. I really appreciate that. Regards Maleka x

  6. Hello. I’m delighted you like my melting cleansing Balm and our position on ageing. Please do take a look at the About Us section in Website. I think you would enjoy The MERUMAYA Difference and #BeatuyHasNoAge sections.
The Guardian newspaper in the UK tested 10 cleansing balms and ours scored highest. They named it the King of Cleansing Balms. If I was going to be that bold, I’d have said Queen!
Our Daily Cleansing Cloths ate lightweight flannels not the thin muslins.
We have a lot of American customers buying direct from our website in the Uk. That’s why I’ve done the limited time offer in free shipping over £50 (usually £100). Is love to sell there. I’m looking for an uber cool, small Independant who are savvy and active in social platforms, ship all over USA. If you know any, please send me details. I used work and live there and would love to visit more regularly and meet up with bloggers and you tubers.

We always have to say don’t use around eyes. A lot of people tell us they do really successfully just like you, but a few not.

Thank you for taking the time to review. I really appreciate that you are helping to get word out there. Bless you.
    Regards
    Maleka x

    1. Glad to get the word out, Maleka! I’ve used a few other melting cleansing balms, but yours is the best yet. The consistency is ideal! As I mentioned on Twitter, I think you should get in touch with Alana Mitchell at Skincare By Alana. Check out her website: https://www.skincarebyalana.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiA8vPUBRAyEiwA8F1oDJxW7tDdELiPyblC7PtDbTKPF3wrN6VO6p-jax7MWRQhC1QQpEu-bxoC_7AQAvD_BwE

  7. Yvette Price says:

I was going to ask about the eye make up removal and I’m glad to hear you can use it even with sensitive eyes!

    1. I do, Yvette, even though the directions say not to get it in your eyes. It is an absolutely fabulous makeup remover, and it is so incredibly hydrating. It won best makeup remover in the UK. I wish they will find a US distributor soon or by the time I use up my tube!

  8. It sounds so good!

  9. I love using cleansing balms in the winter!

    1. This one is the best balm I’ve tried yet. So bummed that they don’t have a US distributor yet, but hopefully they’ll find one before I use up this tube 😉

  10. I love a company that speaks the truth – youthfully aging. 🙂 Part of it is internally, staying young at heart but the other part is taking care of your skin. Great review. Just having turned 40, I’m now really starting to take notice of the fine lines and smiles lines.

    1. Thanks, Kristi! Yes, taking care of your skin is the best insurance policy for youthful aging there is.

  11. It sounds really good. I’d be interested when it’s a little easier to get in the US

  12. Lynne B says:

I’ve become a double cleanse convert. This sounds like a great option for the first cleanse. I know what you mean about muslin cloths. I’d never heard of their use for facial cleansing until I started following some British blogs.

    1. I agree, Lynne, the double cleanse is the only way to go. I wish the Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm was easier to get in the US. I hope she’ll find a distributor or retailer here because I would love to repurchase this when I finish the tube. It truly has the perfect consistency, and it doesn’t irritate my eyes. I like it soooooooo much better than Clinique’s Take the Day Off balm. The owner told me that their Daily Cloths are lightweight “flannels”, the British term for facecloths, rather than muslins. I kind of don’t get the whole thing though – do you recycle the cloths after you’ve used them once? do you wash them after every use? Maybe it’s a British thing 😉

      1. Lynne B says:

I haven’t tried a cleansing balm but am currently using Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil. The first ingredient is grapeseed oil (great for my oily dehydrated skin) and it has Vitamin E. I have a few KBeauty cleansing balms on my wishlist. I follow a few British bloggers and one has a collection of “muslins” or “flannels” that she washes after each use. I was confused about the terminology, too, because they look like facecloths not what Americans would consider muslin or flannel. Thanks for the info!!

        1. That’s cool, Lynne. I’m going to have to look up a photo of a muslin and a flannel!!

  13. I love the brand’s approach to aging and this sounds like such a great makeup remover.

    1. I agree – they’re realistic! This truly is the best melting cleansing balm I’ve tried because the consistency is perfect. I hope they find a US or North American distributor so I can buy another tube when I finish this one up.

  14. 25 Sweetpeas says:

Sounds like a decent makeup removal process!

    1. If you have dry skin like I do, a melting cleansing balm is wonderful because it does a great job removing makeup and hydrates at the same time.

  15. It sounds very soothing! I like using balms lately.

  16. I am obsessed with cleansing balms, and this one sounds fantastic. I hope it becomes available in the US market some time.

    1. I like this cleansing balm the best of all that I’ve tried. The consistency is awesome, and it’s so easy to use. I really hope it’ll find a retailer or distributor here!

  17. I love a good cleansing balm and this one looks like it’s packed with good ingredients. I also like the idea that it’s a multitasker!

    1. It’s the best cleansing balm I’ve tried. The consistency is perfect. Wish it were available in the states!

  18. Sounds like a great product! I don’t wear makeup a lot but when I do, I want it off, fast!

  19. I am obsessed with cleansing balms!

  20. My Nail Polish Obsession says:

Interesting product, I kinda want to try it!

    1. I wish Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm were easier to get in the US because it’s the best cleansing balm I’ve tried. If you wear makeup and especially if you have dry to combo skin, cleansing balm is the way to go – so fast and hydrating!

  21. Ehmkay Nails says:

Oh this sounds so hydrating. Definitely need this as I watch the snow fall!

  22. I’ve never heard of a melting cleanser before and I like the term youthful aging. It just sounds more graceful than anti-aging.

    1. Basically “youthful aging” is a new twist on the old saw “aging gracefully”. “Anti-aging” was coined about 20 years ago to get across the idea of fighting or slowing down the aging process. If you wear makeup, it is worth it especially during seasons when you skin might be drier, to try a melting cleansing balm. It’s both quick and hydrating. Merumaya has the best consistency of all the melting cleansing balms I’ve tried. I really hope they find a US retailer to carry their brand!

  23. Glad to hear it is mostly scentless! I hate when skincare products have strong smells!

    1. and especially when it used near my eyes, unscented or almost scentless is the way to go for me too!

  24. Sounds like a great product, I wish it was readily available in Canada.I’m always on the hunt for a great cleansing balm.

    1. I wish they would find a North America distributor. This melting cleansing balm from Merumaya is the best one I’ve tried
