Creamy Mousse Shadow: butter LONDON Glazen Eye Gloss

This time around, Ulta 21 Days of Beauty didn’t have all that much that attracted me. I was hoping that they’d have more new products, but it seemed to me that there were mostly old favorites.

Because I haven’t found a replacement for Urban Decay Anti-aging Eye Primer, I bought the travel size that was available during the 21 Days sale. I still wish they’d lose the applicator and bring back the old formula, but till I find a replacement eye primer that I really like, I’ll use this one.

The other item that I purchased during the sale was something that I’ve been looking at for more than a year. butter LONDON Glazen Eye Gloss, a mousse-like eye shadow cream. It reminds me of the Fiona Stiles Eyeshadow Cream that I bought some time ago and lost.

Glazen Eye Gloss comes in a pretty glass jar.

The range has 8 shades, and my Ulta carried the following 6:

  • Unicorn: opal with holographic shimmer
  • Oil Slick: they call it “chameleon”
  • Frosted: warm-toned rose gold
  • Icing: cool-toned mauve
  • Mermaid: sheer and the most glittery with colored glitter
  • Moonshine: the one I bought, a cool-toned metallic champagne (they call it taupe) with just a little glitter.

The other two shades are Spark and Bronzed.

butter LONDON describes the Glazen Eye Gloss as “a wet look with a dry finish”. To me, they look either metallic or sparkly. I can’t say that I see them as looking “wet”, and wet isn’t a look that I really like for an eyeshadow 😉

I swatched them on my hand at Ulta, and I wish I had remembered to take a photo before I wiped them off so I could show you what they all look like. Oh well. If I were a few decades younger, I would have bought Mermaid, a sheer gloss with a ton of colored glitter. I loved it, but it was waaaaaay too sparkly for me to wear now.

Oil Slick is a very cool shade. It’s the most opaque and the deepest. It reminds me of Makeup Geek’s pressed powder duochrome shadow that I bought recently, “Insomnia”, that I still haven’t worn because I can’t figure out where I could wear it around here!

I don’t remember Unicorn, I regret to say. Frosted and Icing were quite wearable for anyone. Many of the shades, other than Oil Slick and Moonshine, seemed like they would make very nice toppers to add sparkle and glow to other shadows.

Moonshine, unlike some of the other sheerer shades, is fully opaque though they are all buildable. I love how lightweight it is!

It is best used as an all-over the eyelid shade, or as a touch in the middle of the lid applied after inner and/or outer shades are already applied. The mousse shadow goes on smoothly, but it dries quite quickly so I don’t find it easy to blend. I’m quite satisfied to wear it alone on my lids. I apply it with either my finger or a brush. Both work.

IMO, Moonshine is lovely, and it looks like the silk drapes in my bedroom.

Moonshine wears well. I wear it over eye primer, and I get 10 hours from it with no creasing or fading. Though it dries down, it isn’t stiff and dry like liquid eyeshadows.

At $12 for 5.5 g/0.18 oz., butter LONDON Glazen Eye Gloss was very well priced. The regular price is $24. If you love creams like I do, it may be worth it for you. I noticed that the butter LONDON website has a popup box with a 20% off plus free shipping offer. Also, I see fairly frequent 50% off sales for various butter LONDON products and occasionally for the entire brand advertised on Facebook. Keep an eye out if you’re interested in getting a deal.

butter LONDON Glazen Eye Gloss is sold at Ulta and Kohl’s as well as on the butter LONDON website. Ulta carries Majesty’s Metals, 4 piece collection with shades Moonshine, Amethyst, Icing, and Starlight (not sure what happened to Amethyst and Starlight in the regular singles lineup), for $32 that I think sounds like a bargain, and a great way to get a bunch of shades at once.

Is the mousse-like Glazen Eye Gloss something you’d consider trying?

  1. This is gorgeous! I have it in Bronzed– which must be two of the shades that aren’t at Ulta. The formula is so lovely, and it wears nicely as well. This color is beautiful, and so flattering on you Allison!

    1. Thank you, Helen! I’m glad that you have one of the Glazen Glosses and love it too. I need to find a photo/swatch of Bronzed. I thought that Moonshine was rather bronzey, but I was surprised when I discovered it was an exact match with my champagne colored silk drapes!

  2. Eye gloss is like the in-trend these days! Didn’t know Butter London has it too so thank you for this post! Moonshine looks beautiful, totally something that I would be more than happy to wear.

    1. I like this Eye Gloss so much, I’d love to get another one. I’m on the hunt now for either a deep purple if it still exists or Bronzed. I think you’d have fun with these too

  3. The name Eye Gloss always scared me. I was sure it would look wet and disappear quickly. Now I know better and will look at these. You know I love cream shadows (and blushes) so this would be fun for me.

    1. Marcia, they have a gloss blush too. I would love to try it as well!

I haven’t tried this yet but it looks really nice on your lids. Pretty affordable too!

    1. Thank you! The half off price that I paid was a steal!

  5. As an oily skinned gal, I am scared of anything glossy other than lipstick!

    1. It dries to a metallic finish. I’m not sure why they call it gloss, instead of mousse.

  6. Kim A says:

I meant to ask you–what shimmery eyeshadow shade were you wearing when we went out for lunch last week? It was gorgeous–was it this one?

    1. Yes it was! I really like it. I wish they had some matte shades too, but this one is not overly sparkly IMO

  7. I’ve been curious about these. They sound really great!

  8. Ahh, so that’s what you were talking about! It’s a beautiful shade indeed, and it looks stunning on you.

    1. Thank you, Anastasia!

  9. That shade looks lovely on you! Yay for the shimmer too!

  10. Hi Allison! New follower from the Facebook group. I LOVED oil slick- only problem? VERY short shelf life. They have 6 months on the bottom, and you can get maybe 8 months before it turns rock solid. And I couldn’t get any color off it- you’d think it would be a more traditional shadow then Too, but no.

I’ll probably rebuy the slick since I loved the color so much!

    Moonshine looks stunning on you!

    1. Amy, thanks for the comment about Oil Slick! It is a beauty! I loved the Glazen eye gloss so much that I bought a Butter LONDON LE of 4 mini eye glosses, but I don’t think Oil Slick was one of the options. Then during the Ulta Platinum event, I bought the Glazen Blush. I better get a move on and use ’em up fast before they dry out! Thanks for the warning because I have a tendency to “save” things.
