Ardell Magnetic Liner & Lash: Easier to Apply Magnetic False Lashes

Back in the spring, I decided to try magnetic lashes. I bought a pair of the double magnetic lashes from Ardell that include a top and bottom lash for each eye.

The 3 little magnets on each lash are supposed to easily come together with your own lashes sandwiched in the middle. It came with an applicator that was supposed to make the lashes easier to apply. It didn’t.

I tried and tried, but I couldn’t get them to work on me. If I could get them to fit together, they would slide off my lashes. I gave up. I thought they were awful.

But last week, I watched Miranda from Slashed Beauty’s YouTube video on a new form of magnetic lashes. They seemed much easier to use than the initial magnetic lashes with uppers and lowers. Miranda looked terrific in both pairs of the magnetic lashes she tried, and she had no trouble applying them.

Today, I was at the mall doing an errand so I ran over to Ulta to take a look at the magnetic lashes. Ardell lashes were on sale for 40% off, so I only looked at the Ardell lashes. They had 3 different sets of Magnetic Liner & Lashes. I was looking for a set of demi/outer lashes, but there weren’t any Magnetic ones. Instead, I chose the most natural looking lashes, style 110.

The Ardell Magnetic Liner & Lash kit contains a pot of “magnetic” gel eyeliner, a small angled brush and a pair of false lashes.

The directions say to apply two coats of the magnetic eyeliner. I used the little slant brush that came with the kit, but I also used one of my own slant brushes that was better quality. To be honest, I am not used to wearing that much black eyeliner. On me, it looks a little harsh. I tried to keep the liner narrow and very close to my lashes, but the magnetic lashes need something to grab on to, so I had to go back over and make the lines a little larger.

Somehow I envisioned that the lashes would magically be attracted to the liner, but it’s not quite that simple. I had to apply the lashes and press the 4 little magnets onto the liner. Nevertheless, it wasn’t difficult to do, and I am a complete false lash newbie.

In addition, the lashes are simple to remove. I just gently peeled the lashes off with no problem.

I think the Ardell Magnetic Liner & Lash kit is a vast improvement over the double magnetic lashes I tried 6 months ago. And they are easier to apply than traditional lashes and glue. Like regular false lashes, the magnetic lashes are reusable. After taking them off, I clean off any eyeliner that’s stuck to the magnets with a Q-tip dipped in micellar water. BTW, the liner requires a little work to get it off my eyes, the makeup brush and the magnets.

However, for me personally, there were a couple of issues. Because I’m a small person, my eyes must be smaller though I think they fit my face, lol. With some of the expensive false lashes I own, I was able to get them in a smaller size. The drugstore brands don’t give you as many choices in terms of size. With a non-magnetic lash, it’s possible to trim the lashes to fit better. But with magnetic lashes, you can’t trim the lashes because that would remove one of the magnets. No can do. So I had a bit of a hard time figuring out how to place the lashes on my downturned eyes. At first, I had the inside of the lash too close to the inside corner of my eye, and they felt impossibly itchy. I had to take them off and try again till they were positioned as good as they could be on my eyes.  They feel fairly comfortable, and occasionally, I forget I’m wearing them. But if I had lashes that fit me better, they would be even more comfortable for me to wear. I am hoping I’ll be able to find some Magnetic Demi Lashes at some point either from Ardell or from another brand.

Earlier in this post, I mentioned that I chose are a relatively natural looking style, #110. As a result, I don’t think they show up that well. I think I mostly notice that I’m wearing a lot of black eyeliner rather than lashes.

My mistake was playing it too safe in the lash style I chose. Ulta had Wispies and Demi Wispies kits. Perhaps they would have been less long and would have fit me better, although they were much fuller lashes. Maybe I’ll try the Demi Wispies?

Finally, the false lashes seem to emphasize my downturned eye shape. Flicking up the eyeliner into a cat eye really is necessary for me, I’ve determined.

All in all, I’m having fun with the Ardell Magnetic Liner & Lash kit. At Ulta, the kits were priced at $15, and with 40% off, I paid about $9. At Sally Beauty, the Ardell Magnetic Liner & Lash kits are $15.99, but they have what they call an “Accent” kit, basically outer lashes. I will try to pick up a pair of the Magnetic Accent lashes to try next because I found them at Ulta.com on sale..

Have you tried the magnetic eyeliner and lashes yet? If so, what did you think? If not, would you try them?

So glad you reviewed these Allison. The first time I heard of magnetic lashes I thought “maybe I can manage to get these on my eyes”,lol. I would definitely try these. Can you use mascara on them, maybe a light coat,to counter the black eyeliner? I don’t use black and imagine it would overwhelm my hooded eyes. On another note; THANK YOU so much for the drops of youth peel advice! It was exactly what I wanted and needed. I couldn’t stop rubbing my smooth skin,it’s been so long since my skin felt like that. I’m in love. It will definitely be in my skin care routine from here on in. I know it sounds silly but it made my day and every time I look at the bottle I smile. I have to stop myself from using it more than I should, lol. You’re the best Allison,I’m so glad I came to you for advice. Have a great day! xo

    1. Hi Laura! I thought I had replied to you but either I got confused or my reply disappeared! I was sorely disappointed in the double (upper and lower) magnetic lashes that I tried back in April. They were awful, but the Magnetic Liner & Lash kit is much, much easier to use – easier than the doubles and easier than traditional lashes and glue. But I hear you about the black liner. To be honest, I don’t like a heavy black line on my older eyes. When I use eyeliner, I mostly use grey, brown, navy, purple or I just tightline with grey. Although I think the magnetic lashes are fun and much easier to apply, I wish they had other shades of the magnetic liner. In terms of getting them to show up more, I wouldn’t put mascara on them because I don’t think it would be sanitary to reuse them after that. One of these days, I’ll pick up a pair of Accents or Demi Wispies and give them a try. And on another subject, I am thrilled that you like the TBS Drops of Youth Liquid Peel! I agree, it leaves skin sooooo smooth. I’m tempted to use it more often than once a week, but I mostly try to stick to once a week so it doesn’t remove my moisture barrier and I love to see more skin come off! Have a good weekend xo

I had watched Miranda from Slashed Beauty too. I have never tried false lashes as I have very dry eyes and try to watch what I am using near them. Someday when I am not leaving the house (think winter snowstorms) I am going to play around with eyeliner….Wish me luck. Thanks for another review on the magnetic lashes!

    1. Sandy, playing around with eyeliner on a snowy day sounds like fun! I use charcoal grey or medium grey liner rather than black. Or even navy, brown or purple. Black is so harsh – so to me, that’s the only downside to the magnetic liner & lash kit. I wish they had different color liners for the kit.

  3. These look amazing on you, Allison. I do not have the patience for false lashes!

  4. I have been tempted to try these. Like you I seem to have small eyes though and need to find lashes of the right size.

    1. If you do try the Ardell Magnetic Liner & Lash kit one day, either get the Accent lashes or the Demi Wispies since they’re smaller

  5. Oooh so that’s how they work! I heard about magnetic lashes but wasn’t sure how to use them. Thanks for the explanation!

    1. You’re welcome, Anastasia. The magnetic liner & lash kit was fun to try, and much easier than the double mag lashes or traditional ones

  6. I bought a different pair from Ardell and can’t get them to work. I’ll see if I can pick the Accent ones up since I’ll be home for a few weeks (following knee replacement surgery). I love the idea of them and think you look great.

    1. I hope your knee surgery goes well, Marcia! xoxo The Ardell magnetic liner and lash kit was quite easy to use and it’s been fun to try. The only downside is removing the liner – it’s a little hard to get off so I use a jelly remover. Ulta.com has the accent lashes on sale for $9, but I don’t need anything else from Ulta and I don’t want to pay for shipping. I wish they were in my store coz I’d love to try those.

  7. I gave up on false lashes after using LiLash growth serum. I haven’t used it for a month and my lashes are still super long and healthy!

    1. Your lashes are the bomb. You don’t need false lashes. Have you ever had your lashes tinted? I am considering it, but I don’t know anyone who has had it done. I have to have cataract surgery, and you can’t wear any eye makeup for at least a month afterwards. And my lashes are colorless, ugh.

  8. Magnetic lashes intimidate me! But I have heard of the liner/magnetic lash combo and i did think it was a bit intriguing. Thank you so much for your review on the Ardell kit!!

    1. The magnetic liner and lash kit was so much easier to use than the disastrous double magnetic lashes. I don’t wear false lashes very often, and if I wear the traditional kind, the lash glue from Esquido is by far the best I’ve ever tried. And the cool mirror I got from GoodJanes for $30 really makes getting the traditional ones on so much easier – but it’s hard to find a place to keep it. I should just put it on my vanity table, I guess, coz it would make even putting on the magnetic ones easier. Or I could just stick to mascara, like I do most days, lol

  9. Thank you for trying these! I have major issues getting the regular two-part magnetic ones to stay put too. I can only get one eye right at a time, seemingly. LOL. This liner/lash combo sounds promising but that much black eyeliner is just not me. Who do I have to harass to get companies to make things in brown?!? And maybe some other colours while we’re at it? I think there is opportunity here for costuming and I’d personally love a purple liner/lash set!

    1. The double magnetic lenses were a disaster for me, too. I couldn’t agree with you more about different color liners for the liner & lash combo, though I doubt it would ever happen. I’ll continue to play around with the magnetic liner & lashes and see how small a line I can get away with. I hate the look of too much black liner on me. I would love grey, brown or as you suggest, purple! Even navy

  10. I really want to try these!

I’m not really a fan of false lashes, mostly because the glue usually bothers my eyes. Maybe I’ll give these kind of lashes a shot next!

    1. The magnetic liner & lashes are definitely fun to try! Buy ’em on sale 😉
