For the past few years, I have mostly been using Benefit mascaras: They’re Real, Badgal Bang and Roller Lash. I also like a mascara from MAC, but it was discontinued this year.
Recently, a woman in Phyrra’s Facebook group was singing the praises of Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara from affordable brand, Essence. I mean she really loved that mascara!
A few years ago, I had really good luck with Essence I <3 Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara (reviewed here), so I thought I’d give Lash Princess False Lash Effects a try. For $4.99 at Ulta, it wasn’t a big risk. It also comes in a waterproof version, but I chose the regular formula. False Lash Effects is a line extension onto the Lash Princess mascara line that’s been around for a few years.
Lash Princess False Lash Effects has a normal wand: a conical shaped fiber wand.
I usually gravitate toward wands with plastic teeth, but I found the fiber wand easy to use. The formula is both volumizing and lengthening. I usually use mascaras that are more lengthening than volumizing, so this was a little different for me. And because I don’t always like fat lashes, I sometimes just apply one coat and I get the dark color and length that I like. Below is one coat:
But I’ve been playing around with it and applying several coats to see what it looks like.
After using it for a week or so, I really like Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effects Mascara. It’s easy to apply, adds both length and volume, and I think it really excels on bottom lashes. I have had no problems with clumping or flaking. For $4.99, it’s well worth a try.
Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effects is cruelty-free, gluten-free and parabens-free. It’s sold at Ulta, on the Essence website, and at Fred Meyer stores.
Wow! I liked the picture of you with one coat BUT I loved the picture of your lashes with more then one coat. Was already going to go to Ulta (when the torrential rains let up) for Revlon Vinyl lipstick so going to check this product out too!
Thank you, Sandy! Honestly, both the Revlon Ultra HD Vinyl Lip Polish and the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effects are two of the best affordable makeup products I’ve tried in ages. Both are at the same level of quality of the more expensive brands I’ve bought. Hope the rain lets up soon! We’re expecting rain and much colder temps later today. Have fun at Ulta, and don’t forget your $3.50 off $15 coupon 😉
I bought this mascara out of necessity a few weeks back and was surprised by it. I have extremely sparse lashes and it makes even mine look full!
I’m so glad that you have had a good experience with Lash Princess False Lash Effects too!
This looks great on you. I’ll look for it when I go to Ulta. I like having a few mascaras open at once so it’s best to keep them affordable.

Thank you, Kristi! Essence is really a gem of an affordable brand. They have some terrific inexpensive products, especially their mascaras.
Essence does have some really great products! Cute packaging.
I use this in waterproof when I want a long lasting curl!
I’ll check this one out next time I go to Ulta. I’ve been wearing colored mascaras lately by Colourpop
I used to wear colored mascaras a lot a while back. I haven’t tried ColourPop’s yet.
Such a great price! I have heard SO many talk about it!
