My Trip to Philly and Early Halloween Fashion Flash

I have always wanted to go to The Barnes Foundation, a collection of post-Impressionist art collected by a rather eccentric physician, Dr. Albert C. Barnes. After Dr. Barnes’ death in 1951, the trust he created stated that the collection must stay exactly as it was when he was alive. The works were idiosyncratically arranged by Dr. Barnes, often in arrangements that went up to the ceiling with no labeling. Because The Barnes Foundation was located in a suburban neighborhood with limited parking, the number of visitors to the galleries had to be limited. After several decades, the board of directors of The Barnes Foundation managed to (contentiously) break the trust. The commissioned a new building designed by the New York architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, built in downtown Philadelphia located near other museums. The new building is modern, and it looks beautiful. Yet the collection is still hung the way it was under Dr. Barnes’ aegis. I’m psyched to go and see it for myself!

Jeff and I are also planning to go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and probably a couple of other museum as well. And hopefully, the aquarium too.

We’re staying near Penn’s Landing along the Delaware River near the Old City. The weather is supposed to be nice on Thursday, so we’ll explore the area on foot. The weather is kind of dicey for the rest of the weekend; so if it rains as predicted for the weekend, we’ll do more indoor things.

In addition to museum going and sightseeing, we’ll be connecting with new and old friends. It should be a wonderful quick trip.

Because I’ll be on the go and I haven’t stockpiled a lot of blogposts, I will take off a few days and get back to my regular schedule next week. I hope I’ll have some nice pix to share.

Have a good week and weekend.
