I’ve been working so hard, not only in my yard and gardens, but in the gardens in the front entrance to our neighborhood. My talented friend, Sue, has agreed to take care of our gardens this season for very little money. Because the gardens badly need some updating, TLC, a new design, and new plant material, there’s a lot to do. Sue, an artist and energetic gardener, is great at designing attractive landscapes. I’m also amazed at how strong she is. Nevertheless, I don’t think it is fair for her to do all the work herself, especially for the pittance she is being paid. So I have been working with her. On Sunday, we went to a friend’s extensive gardens who is planning a major redesign to look at the plant material that she offered to donate to my neighborhood garden. Sue and I dug up about a zillion daffodils. Then today, we planted them in their new home. It was a ton of physical labor to get it done. In fact, we both spent about 4 hours working in the neighborhood gardens. It’s a work in progress, the established perennials are just starting to come up, and we’ve got a lot more to do, but here’s a quick snap or two that I took with my iPhone.
Needless to say, I am so tired. And I was covered with dirt. So I decided that a little self-care as well as a cleanup was in order. If I had a decent bathtub, I would have taken a long soaking bath. But my bathtub’s overflow was not connected to the rest of the plumbing (too bad I didn’t find that out till a year after I lived in my house when I noticed water dripping from the living room ceiling!), so I don’t take baths too often. So shower it was.
I started by washing the dirt off of my face, and I used a gentle bar soap, De Landbouwers Dochters Eggwhite Facial Soaps (reviewed here), to get off the grime.
Once my face was clean, I applied The Body Shop Drops of Youth Liquid Peel (reviewed here), a gentle chemical peel that removes dead skin cells.
Even though I couldn’t soak in the tub, I decided to bring out one of my most luxurious shower gels that I bought at Barney’s NY, a retailer that I sorely miss since it went out of business last fall: Lipstick Rose Base Lavante Douce from Frederic Malle.
I splurged on this delectably scented shower gel that is a companion to Lipstick Rose Eau de Parfum by Frederic Malle, a scent that was created in memory of the creator’s mother who wore a lipstick that smelled like roses (Chanel, I think) (reviewed here). A hot shower with the delightful, summer rose scent not only helped me rinse off the dirt, but it helped my sore back and leg muscles.
When I toweled off, I applied Céla Crème Rose The Very Best Cream Rose body cream, a rose scented rich pink cream that I received in my April Ipsy Plus Bag. It helped extend the rose scent while hydrating my dry skin.
Next, I applied rose scented BEOA Australia Rosehip & Kakadu Plum Hand Cream to my over-washed hands. The lightweight gel-cream hand cream was part of a birthday gift from my friend Sybille. It smells so good and my hands feel so soft!
Then I “gilded the lily” by spraying on some Lipstick Rose Eau de Parfum (reviewed here). Though still dog-tired, I feel so much better! Things are coming up roses 😉
This is a lovely self-care post, and all of the lovely rose scents are perfect! I hope that you had a lovely birthday!
