I must have been loyal to Maybelline Oil-free Eye Makeup Remover for almost 20 years. That’s a looooong time. And I still think it’s a good product. But it’s a small container, and I found myself needing to replace it all the time. Also, in spite of the fact that it was oil-free, it always felt like it left behind an “oiliness” that I didn’t like. I wonder what it was since it wasn’t oil? So, I started checking out other brands.
Several teens in the makeup shopping research study I conducted this spring told me how much they liked Rimmel Gentle Eye Make Up Remover as we shopped the aisles together in Ulta, Fred Meyer and Walgreen’s. I figured it was worth a try.
So, what’s the verdict? I like the Rimmel Eye Make Up Remover. It definitely is gentle. The bottle says it is “safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers”, and both describe me. It doesn’t sting or burn at all. Also, it says it’s “dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested”.
And it does a decent job removing all but the most stubborn waterproof mascara. It removes essence Stays No Matter What 24hr Volume Waterproof Mascara and all my non-waterproof mascaras with no problem. It removes Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liner without a struggle. But I had trouble getting off the waterproof Maybelline Colossal Volume Express Mascara — I thought I got it all off but I would sometimes wake up with raccoon eyes.
So I think the teens gave me a good recommendation. I will most likely repurchase the Rimmel Eye Make Up Remover when I finish the bottle. It’s widely available in supermarkets, drugstores, mass merchandisers, Ulta, and on lots of websites. The price seems to vary widely depending on where you buy it, from about $4.82 to $7.99. The size of the bottle is 4.2 fl. oz./125 ml. It’s made in Monaco.
