Molton Brown Orange & Bergamot Bath & Shower Gel is a morning body wash, IMHO. The bright citrus and floral bergamot tea scent is perfect to get your day off to a happy and uplifted start. In fact, I started my day today (Tuesday) with Orange & Bergamot in my shower.
Like most Molton Brown scents, it is complex: not just a one or two note fragrance. Even their shower gels have layers of fragrances. Orange & Bergamot is made up of the following notes:
- Top note: orange, bergamot and mandarin
- Heart note: neroli, cardamom and galbanum
- Base notes: musk, ylang-ylang and cedarwood
I would say that the notes that stand out the most are citrus, bergamot and neroli. Orange & Bergamot Bath & Shower Gel smells kind of like sunshine in a bottle or a glass of orange and bergamot iced tea. The pale yellow color of the thick, transparent liquid extend the sunshine-y feeling.
Like all Molton Brown body washes, a little goes a long way. A small amount on a pouf or wash cloth creates oodles of suds, but it rinses cleanly without being drying. I really can’t say that the scent lingers on my skin after I towel dry, but I can say that using Molton Brown Orange & Bergamot Bath & Shower Gel in the shower is a sophisticated as well as a bright way to start the day. If you really love the scent, you can get the Orange & Bergamot Body Lotion, Hand Wash, Eau de Toilette or Eau de Parfum and keep the fragrance going, like I do with Muddled Plum.
The full size bottle of Molton Brown is 10 fl. oz./300 ml, though they have several smaller sizes as well that are usually sold in travel and discovery sets. Molton Brown is made in England, and it comes in loads of different scents, if Orange & Bergamot isn’t your jam. On the Molton Brown website, Orange & Bergamot is priced at $32, and the prices vary slightly by scent. But if you hunt around, Molton Brown can be had for less. Lookfantastic US is selling Molton Brown this week for 25% off with the code MOLTON25 (25% off was in an email I received on Monday) and online it says 10% off with the code 10LF, though I would try for the 25% off first, of course. I picked up a bottle of my favorite limited edition Muddled Plum Bath & Shower Gel for $19.99 at Saks Off 5th online and it is still available at that price now (it may be last year’s product, but I didn’t see any difference).

RueLaLa had a sale on Molton Brown products a few weeks ago, and I ordered the body lotion in this scent. Alas, I’m finding that it smells a lot like the old Coppertone Sun Lotion! Disappointing. But I love the ‘Festive Frankincense and Allspice’ hand wash that I just opened yesterday. Go figure!
Oh, thanks for the tip, Kim, about Rue La La – I stopped subscribing a while ago, and they often have good things. I don’t remember what Coppertone smelled like, but I don’t think I would want the Orange & Bergamot body lotion either. The scent is bright and slightly sharp. I love it in the shower in the morning, but it wouldn’t work for me all day long. Too bad. Now, I am curious about the Frankincense and Allspice hand wash because I had the shower gel bauble two years ago, and it was too masculine for me. However, I just finished up a frankincense soap from Zum Bar, and I loved it.
