Dr. Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask

Lately, I seem to be doing everything backwards. I got my February Ipsy Plus bag a couple of weeks ago, and instead of reviewing the entire bag, I seem to be cherry picking products I love.

Today, I’m talking about Dr. Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask. The higher end skincare is one of the key reasons I stick with Ipsy. I was glad that this sleeping mask from Dr. Brandt was one of my options.

Dr. Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask is supposed to be appropriate for just about all skin types (though sensitive skin isn’t mentioned). Its purpose is to balance skin overnight by relieving dryness, redness, irritation etc. It was the dryness relief and strengthening the skin’s barrier that I was most interested in. It claims to “lock in moisture for up to 72 hours”. I certainly wouldn’t be using this mask and nothing else once in 3 days, but I figure it must goose up the hydration level for a while, and that sounded good.

These are the results from a small scale study:

AFTER 1 USE:*
– 100% showed immediate skin hydration
– 100% showed a reduction in skin redness after 1 night

AFTER 4 WEEKS OF USE:**
– 100% reported skin feels softer
– 97% reported skin feels smoother
– 94% reported product delivers long-lasting moisture
– 94% reported product restores comfort to the skin
– 87% reported product soothes irritation and itchiness
– 87% reported product relieves redness

* Instrumental evaluation conducted on 30 volunteers
** Self-assessment test conducted on 30 volunteers

These are the product’s key ingredients:

  • BIOTIC BALANCING COMPLEX: Maintains skin’s naturally occuring flora for a strengthened barrier.
  • UNIQUE DELIVERY MATRIX: Combines a soothing peptide with Honey, Boswellia and Tea extracts to reduce redness and soothes the skin.
  • RESTORATIVE BLEND OF CERAMIDES, FATTY ACIDS AND TAMARINDO EXTRACT: Provides deep hydration, improves elasticity, and reduces water loss.

It was the ceramides for strengthening the skin’s barrier that interested me most. Lately, ceramides have been doing an excellent job for me, and Dr. Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Mask hasn’t disappointed me. In fact, it exceeded my expectations.

The Dr. Brandt sleeping mask that I received came in a 1.7 fl. oz. plastic tube rather than the jar of the same size that I have seen online. Frankly, I prefer the tube.

The mask is very lightweight, fragrance-free with a pale green tint. Honestly, when I saw how thin the mask is, I thought it would be a failure for me. Fortunately, I was completely wrong. I applied a thin coating to my cleansed skin and that’s it. It sinks in quickly, and my skin feels immediately hydrated rather than tight and dry like I expected. I thought I was going to have to put something on top of it, but no, not at all. It dries to a completely greaseless finish. It’s actually the perfect skincare to wear to bed!

I expected to wake up to tight, dry skin because it was so lightweight, but again I was more than pleasantly surprised. This stuff works for me! I know it’s the ceramides and probably the dimethicone, too. So if your skin can’t handle dimethicone, skip this one.

WATER (AQUA), DIMETHICONE, PROPANEDIOL, GLYCERIN, SODIUM CHLORIDE, DIMETHICONE PEG-10/15 CROSSPOLYMER, LACTOCOCCUS FERMENT LYSATE, HEXYLDECANOL, INULIN, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, SODIUM BENZOATE, YOGURT POWDER, PEG-10 DIMETHICONE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, TAMARINDUS INDICA SEED POLYSACCHARIDE, SODIUM CITRATE, CAPRYLHYDROXAMIC ACID, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, LAVANDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA (LAVENDER)  OIL, TRISODIUM ETHYLENEDIAMINE DISUCCINATE, BISABOLOL, CETYLHYDROXYPROLINE PALMITAMIDE, STEARIC ACID, HONEY, BRASSICA CAMPESTRIS (RAPESEED) STEROLS, ROSA DAMASCENA FLOWER OIL, CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, PHENOXYETHANOL, VITIS VINIFERA (GRAPE) SEED EXTRACT, BOSWELLIA SERRATA EXTRACT, HONEY EXTRACT, SODIUM COPPER CHLOROPHYLLIN, ASPALATHUS LINEARIS (ROOIBOS) EXTRACT, SACCHAROMYCES POLYPEPTIDES

I’m glad I got Dr. Brandt Recovery Sleeping Mask in my Ipsy Plus bag because it’s a little pricey at $52, but it sure does work for me. Check out the reviews on the Dr. Brandt website. All but a couple are raves. You can purchase it on the Dr. Brandt website where you can get 20% off with code WINTER20, at Sephora, Ulta, Dermstore, Skinstore where you can get 20% off with code NEWBIE, and Macys

    1. You hit the nail on the head, Marcia. When a subscription introduces you to a product you love, that’s the best. It’s quite amazing that I have incorporated so many skincare products especially that I tried through Ipsy Plus that have become part of my regular routine. Getting to try out the full size has converted me to way more products than the original Ipsy bag with the travel size products.

  3. Those results are promising! I like the numbers they go for improvements and results. I miss my sub boxes, but I just wants finding things I loved or items would be melted in the hot spring/summer/early fall 100 degree temps.

    1. Wow, Kristi, I can’t believe that the beauty products melt in the mail in AZ! Yikes! But if they are sitting in a hot truck and then in your outdoor mailbox, it must happen all the time.

I like this mask a lot too. I’m so glad you wound up with something you really love!

    1. I’m glad that you got the Dr. Brandt Recovery Sleeping Mask in your Ipsy bag, too, Gabrielle. It was one of the three products that I got that I ended up really liking. The other one, the Payot moisturizer, and the sleeping mask were both tinted a soft green. I wonder if that’s a new trend, or maybe I just love green! I tell you soon what the other product was that I loved. Hope you’re having a good weekend xoxo

I love green too! I have been dipping into my Huda Beauty Emerald Obsessions eyeshadow palette a LOT and also using my Lime Crime green glitter lip topper! GREEN!!!! I hope you’re having a fabulous weekend! Mine has been… painfully dull. *sigh*

        1. Can you believe that my Emerald Obsession palette has been sitting unused for a year! I must take it out and do something with it this week in the run up to St. Patrick’s Day at the very least. I love greens. I painted my family room green, and I got new green sheer drapes, and that room really is my oasis. So calming even though the room has pops of red and blue. I am so curious about which shades you’ve been using the green lip glitter topper over??? Don’t feel bad about the dull weekend, same here. It rained all day long, but at least it’s been melting the snow, yay.

          1. Gabrielle says:

Your family room sounds gorgeous! I’d love to see pictures! As for my lip topper, I use it over nudes and bronzes a lot, but also over a deep teal, a baby blue, and a couple of purples as well.

          2. OMG, all of those shades sound like they must be fabulous with the green glitter topper! Just what is needed during these end of pandemic winter season!

          3. Gabrielle says:

I’ll post a pic on IG next time. And you should break out the Emerald palette and have some fun!

          4. Great! I will look for your pix in the coming days! Hopefully, this week I will wash my hair and go for the green!

  5. I have another sleeping mask that I used to love but it stopped working for me so I’m excited to check out a new one!
