Dead Sea Mud Mask from 7th Heaven

For a long time, I thought that mud masks and clay masks were essentially the same thing. While they both come from the earth and they both draw impurities from the skin to the surface, their skin benefits are somewhat different. Nevertheless, it is confusing because some mud masks contain clay such as kaolin and bentonite. So it’s difficult to choose. Nevertheless, the difference is that muds are skin-healing agents, while clays tend to be drying agents. “Clear as mud”, right?

Some I mostly avoid clay masks, and truth be told, because of my dry skin, I avoided mud masks as well, to be on the safe side.

When I was offered an opportunity to try 7th Heaven’s Dead Sea Mud Mask, I initially balked. But I did some cursory research, and Dead Sea mud with salt and magnesium and other minerals has a number of benefits for skin:

  • detoxifies and exfoliates: As the mud dries on the skin, it draws out impurities, toxins, dead skin cells that are washed away when you wash your skin. It leaves skin softer, smoother and fresher.
  • nourishes: Dead Sea mud infuses skin with more than 25 nourishing minerals that soften and hydrate skin.
  • alleviates dry skin and skin conditions: Dead Sea mud can soothe and help hydrate skin suffering from eczema and psoriasis as well as run o’ the mill dry, itchy or irritated skin.
  • anti-aging: Dead Sea mud tightens, tones, shrinks pores, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and helps diminish uneven skin tone.
  • acne treatment: By cleaning pores and absorbing excess oil (the key word here is “excess”) and with its anti-bacterial properties, Dead Sea Mud helps prevent acne.

Since dryness did not seem to be an issue, I changed my mind and decided to try 7th Heaven Dead Sea Mud Mask

As usual, Dead Sea Mud Mask came in the bright, fun packet that I expect from 7th Heaven. I noticed online that in other countries, you can buy Dead Sea Mud Mask in a tube as well.

The key ingredients in 7th Heaven Dead Sea Mud Mask are:

  • Dead Sea salt
  • seaweed: Nutrient and mineral rich, seasweed contains more than 10 times the calcium in milk. It detoxifies, exfoliates, hydrates, and helps fade fine lines and wrinkles.
  • lavender: combat acne, lighten skin tone and reduce wrinkles as well as reduce stress.

Here’s what 7th Heaven says about the Dead Sea, its history, composition and benefits provided by this mineral-rich body of water:

The Dead Sea contains more than 45,000 million tons of salt which is rich in minerals (such as magnesium, calcium, potassium and more) – that’s a lot of feel-good minerals. What’s more, of the 26 essential minerals found in the Dead Sea, 12 do not exist in any other ocean or sea in the world. Famed for their unique spa like qualities, Dead Sea minerals will leave you feeling relaxed and your skin feeling nourished.

They go on to say:

…calcium soothes and relieves skin cells, sodium chloride nourishes and hydrates your skin, and zinc helps your skin cells regenerate, keeping you looking youthful.

Dead Sea minerals also have the sought after quality of relieving stress, so not only do they help you look better, but they make you feel better too. It’s the perfect combination to help rejuvenate both your body and your mind.

When I received Dead Sea Mud Mask, I saw that after all of my mud vs. clay sleuthing the mask does contain kaolin clay. But fortunately, kaolin is a gentle clay that removes excess oil (if there is any) with creating dryness or irritating skin.

The mask itself is pale green. There’s always plenty of the mask in 7th Heaven packs so you can really pile it on which is what I did. The mask smelled great both out of the package and on my skin, I think from the combination of lavender oil and bergamot. It had a fresh, herbal scent.

You’re supposed to leave it on for 15-20 minutes till it dries. I was watching Stanley Tucci’s Searching for Italy, so I ended up leaving it on for about a half hour. While it was on, my skin didn’t feel tight even though the mask cracked a bit after it dried.

I washed it off with lukewarm water using my hands and also a baby face cloth. Afterwards, my face looked and felt plumped, fresh, soft, smooth, and very clean but not at all dry. I followed it up with my nighttime skincare routine. I was sorry I wasn’t going out somewhere because my skin looked and felt rejuvenated. I initially thought I would give away the other two masks, but forget it, I’m keeping them for myself. I know I will enjoy using the Dead Sea Mud Masks again.

Right now, I’m having a hard time finding the Dead Sea Mud Mask in stores or online. I loved it when Ulta carried a good supply of 7th Heaven masks, but when I searched on ulta.com, nothing came up. Boo. However, the peel-off version of 7th Heaven’s Dead Sea Mud Mask can be found at Claires.com.

BTW, you can find 7th Heaven’s new Intense Cinnamon Mask as well as their Tea Tree Peel-off Mask in Walmart stores now for $1.37!

    Good morning Allison,
I need to try the mud mask as I really could use something other then a sheet mask. I have several waiting to be used but I am just not a fan. Hope your second shot went well and you are feeling okay today.

Unfortunately, I am having a bad reaction. I was fine yesterday but I woke up at 5am feeling awful. I have a fever, joint pain, headache and for a while I couldn’t speak. I called a nurse and she said to take ibuprofen or something. So far, I still have a fever. Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow
