Ipsy Add-Ons January 2022

I Bought This, Affiliate Links

After being surprised at how much I liked my January Ipsy Plus Bag for which Ipsy chose my items, I decided to take a look at the add-ons. Not surprisingly, I found a few that I decided to buy: two sample size duos for $5 and two full size products for $16. The two travel size duos each came in handy drawstring clear plastic bags that are worth saving to re-use in the future.

Here’s what I got:

Duo #1 travel size, $5: fragrance-oriented duo.

  • Commodity Milk: I have tried a couple of Commodity fragrances via my Scentbird subscription in the past, so their Milk scent sounded appealing. It is described on Fragrantica as a woody amber scent which is the key reason I wanted to try it. But after trying the 5 ml sample, I would describe it as a gourmand fragrance that smells kind of like caramel and vanilla candy. Though it might be a little too sweet for me to want to buy a full size bottle, I am enjoying wearing this cozy scent on a cold, snowy day. I’ll definitely use up this spray vial, and if I still like it, I may see if Scentbird, that has had other Commodity fragrances, has this one so I could get a month’s supple. If you’re a fan of gourmand scents, I heartily recommend this one. The Commodity website sells both the full size bottle and a 10 ml spray bottle for $28.
  • Pistache Pistachio Oil Hydrating Hand Cream was a new to me brand, but at this price I can always use another tube. After trying it, I really like this rich, non-greasy hand cream with vitamin E-rich pistachio oil, shea butter and coconut oil.  It has a nutty fragrance that’s lovely but not overpowering. The full size 2.8 oz. tube is sold on the Pistache Skincare website and also on Amazon.

Duo #2 travel size, $5: retinol skincare duo.

  • Murad Youth Renewal Retinol Night Cream: I have wanted to try this retinol night cream from Murad for over a year. Since I have so many anti-aging creams already and Murad is quite expensive, so I never bought it. With the Ipsy Add-ons offering a travel size, I jumped at the chance to get this duo for $5. The rich, white cream with retinol doesn’t sting at all, and it seems like an excellent anti-aging moisturizer. I still don’t think I will buy a full size, full price jar now, but perhaps someday.
  • Tony Moly Plump-Kin Retinol Eye Cream: I like retinol eye creams, and they are somewhat hard to come by. Pumpkin is rich in vitamin A from which retinol may be derived. The stuff inside this cute little tube is a peach colored, watery gel. It’s perfect to apply to crow’s feet. It’s sold at Ulta and Amazon as well as at other retailers that carry Tony Moly.

Duo #3 full size, $16: facial cleansing/makeup removal duo

  • Purlisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Cleansing Milk:  have used this gentle milky cleanser from Purlisse both in a sample and in a full size. Key ingredients are white tea, soy milk and whole oat to calm and nourish skin. It’s actually sold out on the Purlisse website in both full and travel sizes! But it is available on Amazon. At $36 for the full size tube, I got a deal.
  • The Vintage Company Makeup Removing Cloths, 3 pack: I bought this duo because I love anything imprinted with a cherry motif. Plus I like the cute vintage-inspired beauty tools from The Vintage Company. And it’s always great to have a soft, reusable cloth that needs only water to remove makeup for travel or for those times when I’m too lazy even to use Micellar Water. I love that Ulta sells this brand.

So, for $26, I am satisfied that I got to try several items that I had wanted to try as well as a few nice surprises. Even though these 6 items, 4 of which were minis, cost almost as much as my Ipsy Plus Bag that comes with 5 full size items, I think it was worth it.

I’ve used the Purlisse and the Murad and really liked both, but if you’re going to splurge on a Retinol Cream, I’d go with Ferulic + Retinol from Dr. Dennis Gross. I got it through Beauty Pass and it’s extraordinary!

    1. Does the ferulic smell in the Dr. Gross retinol cream? I can’t stand the smell of it in Skinceuticals Ferulic + Vitamin C, lol. I still have quite a way to go finishing up the PCASkin Retinol Serum, but it’s good to know about the Dr. Gross retinol cream. I keep hoping Ipsy will have some more high end skincare for me to try.

There’s a very light, vaguely citrusy scent, but I don’t find it unpleasant. At any rate, I would probably even endure an unpleasant scent for this stuff. It’s lightweight, absorbs quickly, yet it does the job keeping my skin moist and smooth in dry Colorado winter weather!

        1. Next time I go to the mall, I will stop into Ulta and see if there is a tester for the Dr. Gross Ferulic + Retinol or if they can make me a sample. If you like it that much, I must try it!
