My sister and I are both what you’d call “makeup mavens”. We always loved makeup and have many happy memories about using products while sitting together in our bedroom. We had a two door closet with a mirror on each door and we’d sit back to back with our stash in between us. We taught each other a lot and had fun doing it. As second careers we both went into the makeup industry. Our mother on the other hand had no interest in makeup. Even in her 90’s she’d wonder how we got so involved in it.
But as little interest as she had she’s actually the one that got me started on this road. She had a beautiful glass perfume tray on her dresser where she put her fragrance and her special items. I was fascinated with it and spent many hours playing with the items. My favorite gifts to buy her were ones that I hoped she’d display there.
MERLE’S PEARLS from Merle Norman instantly reminded me of my mom when I opened the box. It flooded me with emotion thinking how I wish she was around so I could buy her this. These powder pearls are something we’d agree on – classy and classic, pretty and useful, a delight to observe and use.
These are little pearls of powder that finish your face with a light glow. I admire people who can glisten and glow with all their highlighters but I don’t feel like I’m one of those. But this gives my face a satiny finish and it’s great for all skin tones.
There’s a famous brand that just about built its reputation on their “balls” but I have never been able to tolerate the fragrance of them. Merle’s Pearls on the other hand have little to no fragrance so they fit into my cosmetic life perfectly.
The set comes with a heavenly soft angled brush that feels so luxurious on skin. It’s a wonderful brush to sweep over the Pearls and pick up enough for your face. Another idea is to use a smaller but equally lush eyeshadow brush to apply to smaller areas like your brow bone and top of your cheeks.
This is a limited edition that will make a beautiful impression when you gift it for a holiday like Mother’s Day. It’s feminine, it’s useful and it gives a marvelous yet subtle glow. I think of my mom every time I use Merle’s Pearls and hope you will too.
Your description of sitting in your room with your sister and playing with your makeup is precisely what my mom, sister and I did together! Such fond memories, and the three of us still talk about what fun that was! These pearls are beautiful!

After I wrote the review I called my sister to see if she had our mom’s perfume tray and we were both sad that we didn’t realize the value of it when emptying her apartment. I know my mom would have loved these pearls as much as I do.

I feel like you could write a book. I love that intro and hearing about your sister and your mom! I agree, these powder balls are beautiful. I remember always thinking that type of powder was so pretty to look at. I think my mom had something similar!
Thanks for the compliment Claudia. I have strong memories of my family but especially my mom. She and my dad both would be crying reading this review.

I love your reminiscences about your growing up years with your sister and your mother. I could visualize it all! Merle Norman was a favorite brand of mine before blogging, and I think I would love these pearls too since they sound subtle rather than disco ball-ish.
