Estelle Colored Glass

You probably know that I’m all about color: my hair, my clothes, my home decor. So it is no surprise that I fell in love with the handmade glassware from Estelle Colored Glass.

Also, no surprise that I learned about Estelle Colored Glass, a company owned by a woman of color, on Facebook about a year ago.

Background and Mission

In addition to the products themselves, here’s the description on the Estelle Colored Glass website that drew me in:

“Estelle Colored Glass is a luxury brand of hand-blown colored glass cake stands and stemware in a mix of jewel tones and soft pastels. The Estelle Colored Glass collection is comprised of original commissioned pieces made by glass artisans in Poland at a glass making company with a rich 100-plus-year-old history. Estelle Colored Glass pieces are best described as “jewels for your table.” We just hope our vintage-inspired yet refined and modern colored glass collection starts a revival of colored glass that is reminiscent of a past time.

Estelle Colored Glass is inspired by my grandmother, Estelle, who loved antiquing and had a special day of the week where she visited her favorite shops looking for new treasures in small neighboring South Carolina towns. During the summer months, I had the pleasure of coming along on many of these treasure hunts. My favorite collection that she was always adding to was her colored glass collection. This marked the start of my love for colored glass.”

I believe I first saw an ad or an article for Estelle Colored Glass on Facebook during a month that celebrated businesses owned by women of color.

The owner, Stephanie Summerson Hall, named her Charleston-based company after her grandmother who they called Big Mama.

She hunted for and used colorful glass serving pieces on her Sunday dinner table when Stephanie was growing up. Thus, her inspiration.

My Experience with Estelle Colored Glass

The gorgeous wine glasses, handmade in Poland, in different bright and pastel colors that were featured on Facebook made me lust after them. Since Estelle Colored Glass is a luxury glassware brand, their products are priced accordingly. I waited for months till there was finally a sale.

I decided to buy four wine glasses in the modern Wine Stemware style. Though I wanted them in every color under the sun, I finally settled on shades that would work both in my dining room and my more casual kitchen/great room table: coral peach pink and forest green (my favorite colors, of course).

The glasses arrived beautifully and very carefully packed so that they wouldn’t break. They were in perfect condition.

The wine glasses are tall, relatively thin and elegant, 9.5″ x 3.9″. But they hold 16.5 fl. oz. The glasses themselves are very lightweight. They look lovely on the table, and they are a pleasure to hold in your hand. I wish I had remembered to take a photo of the table when I have used them in the past!

They can be purchased in sets of 2 or 6, all in the same color. I bought two sets of two in different colors. You can also buy a custom set of 6 in a mix of colors of your choice for a slight upcharge on the Estelle Colored Glass website, though Nordstrom has a mixed set of 6 stem wineglasses with colors already chosen at a discount now.

Other Estelle Colored Glass Items

Estelle Colored Glass is the perfect gift for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays. Their items are stunning.

In addition to the Wine Stemware that I bought, there are cake stands (dome sold separately in case you don’t want one), stemless wineglasses, retro champagne coupes, champagne flutes, martini glasses (that’s what I want next in the Iridescent shade!), rocks glasses, and decanters in two different styles. They also have a more traditional-looking line of goblets and champagne flutes that they call Regal Stemware.

Where To Shop Estelle Colored Glass

In addition to shopping on the Estelle Colored Glass website, their products are carried at Nordstrom, Food52.com, West Elm, Holt Renfrew in Canada, and lots of high end boutiques across the U.S. Darn, I wish I had known that Estelle Colored Glass was at Nordstrom during their sale event that just ended! Oh well, next time.

  4. Hi, Allison – Those wine glasses are beautiful! I’m so happy for you that you were able to get them on sale. Coral is a favorite color of mine, but our kitchen and dining room floors are dark green. Also, I hate to say it but my husband is a bit clumsy. I get my glassware by the case so that I always have a replacement after he does the dishes. Lol! I have a crystal wine carafe that was a wedding gift that I may have used once over the past 40 years of marriage. It’s in the cellar along with the rest of my crystal ware. Nevertheless, I definitely covet this gorgeous glassware and would get at least a couple of glasses. I’ll have to look for a sale, like you did…or at least pull out some of my crystal and stop waiting for a special day! I love when you share how you make your house look beautiful.
