A few months ago, I wrote a review of CoverGirl’s Perfect Penny, rose gold nail polish. And I mentioned how much I LOVE rose gold. To me, it’s the prettiest of the metals, and I think it’s the most flattering with my coloring. I think it looks great on women of all skintones and coloring because it works with both warm and cool tones.
I was poking around Ulta last week, and on my way to the cashier with my little purchase of two essence I Love Crazy Extreme Volume Mascaras that were buy one, get one 50% off, I noticed the Ulta private label products as if for the first time. Leticia from Cosmetics Aficionado beauty blog did a smokey eye post a week or two ago in which she used a gorgeous green Ulta eye shadow. I’ve never used Ulta eye shadows before, so I stopped to see if they had the green shade she used. Sure enough, they did. And to my delight, the Ulta eye shadows were 50% off. Just as I was about to buy the green one, I noticed rose gold, my favorite shade, and in a cream shadow formula, too.
I love cream shadows. They feel so good on my dry eyelids. At 50% off, the rose gold eye shadow was $4. Great! Plus I had an Ulta coupon for $3.50 off $10 purchase. So with the buy one (at $4.99) and get one half off ($2.50) on the mascaras and the $4 eye shadow, I used the coupon and ended up paying $8 for all three items. Not bad.
I really didn’t expect much from the Ulta shadow. Boy, was I surprised! It’s a rich, creamy, glide-on formula. It didn’t crease or fade. It blends easily. It’s highly pigmented. It’s metallic, of course, with a little shimmer.
Though I’ve been trying to stay with mattes, this metallic looks fine because it’s not overly shimmery or glittery. I applied it over Urban Decay Anti-aging Eye Primer, and it still looked great when I took it off at least 8 hours later. I will definitely check out the Ulta eye shadows again!
I went back to Ulta this week with my 20% off Friends/Family coupon, and I bought Ulta Color Coat Cream Shadow in Shimmering Topaz, a true gold shade. I think the two forms of gold will look great together.
Ulta Color Coat Cream Shadow is normally $8, and it comes in 7 shades. My assumption is that with the 50% off that’s available now, they are trying to get rid of this season’s shades to bring in new ones. So take a look. For $4, these cream shadow singles are a great deal and they’re going fast! Let me know if you get one!
I guess I’ve never noticed that they had cream shadows! I’ve got a few of their pressed shadow singles but the texture on them is kinda hit or miss.
They have a small section on the wall with the cream shadows. Kinda hard to find unless you’re looking for them. I was very surprised at how good the texture was on these. And for $4 on sale plus additional 20% off, I couldn’t go wrong. I’m hoping they’re going to get some spring shades in soon. But yesterday, I finally found the LE Maybelline Color Tattoo Matte Shadows at CVS. I bought two shades and the texture was just great!
I didn’t know they had these! They remind me of the Maybelline Color Tattoos, which I LOVE. I’ll have to look into these.
And thanks for the shout out! 🙂

Actually, Leticia, you were the one that turned me onto these! They had a green shade that looked a lot like the one you mentioned in a smoky eye you did a while back. Maybe you used the powder shadow, but the green color lured me to the cream shadows. I almost bought the green but I went for the metallics. Yes, they remind me of the Maybelline Color Tattoos too, but I find these just a tad creamier and easier for me to apply and blend. BTW, yesterday I found the LE Maybelline Color Tattoo Matte Shadows at CVS…finally! I bought the pink/nude and the brown, and I LOVE them! I’m wearing them right now <3
Yeah I used the powder shadow. Glad you found the LE Color Tattoos!

It’s really pretty. I hope Ulta still has it, Miranda! Thanks for your comment 🙂
I like the gold one! It looks like a true gold…. so many metallic eye shadows end up looking yellow or orange or greenish on me. Maybe cream shadows keep the color truer?
You’re right, Kim, Topaz is a very pretty, muted actual gold. It’s not yellow but there are some yellow golds that have a burnished, almost matte but still metallic finish (wow, that sounds weird) and that’s what it is. It would look great on you! I’m not sure about cream shadows being truer than powder. I think it’s the primer. Which eye primer are you using?
When I first starting getting into makeup (actually just about 7 yrs ago) I started out building my collection with ULTA eyeshadow singles. I really liked them! I still have them all but haven’t used them in a really long time. I will definitely check out their cream shadows!

Hey Allison, rose gold is your shade! I’m pretty sure this is just going to look all kinds of wrong on me, but it’s definitely made for you!
