In February, Milani is coming out with new lip shades for Spring 2014, and the Power Lip line is one of my favorites. In fact, I saw 5 of the new Power Lip shades in a special display at CVS today!
So far, I’ve had the opportunity to try 4 of the 7 new colors from left to right below: Cabaret Blend 02, Mango Tango 07, Macaron 05 and Strawberry Sugar 06.
I like them all, but one is my absolute fave, like they formulated the color just for me: Macaron, a rose pink shade. Thanks, Milani! I adore it, and it’s my new go-to lippie.
Mango Tango, an orangey melon, is my second favorite. I think I’ll be wearing it a lot this spring and summer.
I also like Cabaret, a deep red with blue undertones that I’d describe as between a cherry red and cabernet,
but the Strawberry Sugar, a cool tone orchid shade, is too light for me, boo hoo.
Here are the swatches:
Milani Power Lip line is a lightweight, long-lasting, non-feathering gloss stain. It starts out nice and shiny, and then dries almost, but not quite, matte. As the hours tick by, color stays on my lips. While it doesn’t last through a meal — at least not a meal with salad dressing or a sandwich, it lasts throughout the day, a good 6 hours.
And because it’s lightweight and not sticky the way some lip glosses can be, I often forget I have it on…but there it is.
As you can see in the photos, the color of the packaging is the color of the shade inside, and they are fairly true to the actual color. It comes in an all-in-one dial-up applicator with a brush that they call a “twist pen”. Take off the top, turn the band at the mid-section, and crank up the liquid color onto the brush, and go to town!
I actually prefer a brush for application over a sponge-tip applicator. I think I can get better coverage and a more precise line.
Milani Power Lip is similar to Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer, but I prefer Milani’s brush applicator to Rimmel’s doe-foot sponge wand. It’s also similar to Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tar, but instead of a separate brush, this one is built in which makes it much easier to apply on-the-go. Most importantly, Milani Power Lip doesn’t dry out my lips as time goes by the way Rimmel and OC Lip Tar can. My lips are dry anyway, so I love that this product is so much more comfortable to wear. Gee, I just noticed that the packaging says it’s a “new, non-drying formula”. They are definitely telling the truth about that!
Here are the ingredients for the line:
So give this new Milani Power Lip shades a try. I’m sure you’ll find a shade or two that suit you. I have! The new shades are available at CVS and on milanicosmetics.com for about $6.49. BTW, I also saw Milani’s new Anti-Feathering Transparent Lipliner that I reviewed a few days ago at CVS now, too! (If you missed my review of this affordable universal lipliner, check it out, here.)
Milani is made in the U.S., and it’s a cruelty-free brand. If you try a new Power Lip shade or the universal lipliner, let me know what you think 🙂
I received these products from the company for review, but all opinions are my own.
Oooo I like Macaron! I also like the idea of the color being used for the packaging, it makes it easy to spot the color one wants to wear. I haven’t tried any offerings from this brand yet since they’re not that easy to spot in my area.

Helene, Milani really is the best of the drugstore brands. Too bad they are not in your neck of the woods!
My Favorite of the Swatches is Cabaret, It looks like such a wearable deep color & I would love to try the lipstick in that shade that is Similar to this Color.
I know there will be new shades in the Color Statement lipstick line, Maria. So keep your eyes open for them. If I see one, I’ll let you know!
I was at CVS yesterday buying cold meds and I did see these but didn’t pick one up .. in fact, I didn’t pick up any makeup .. I don’t know if my head cold is a blessing or a curse .. lol.
I do love Cabaret .. that’s a great color.

Hope you’re husband brings you back some cool Asian makeup from Singapore, and hope you feel better soon, Monica!
These look nice on you but I know I would never be able to work with a liquid lip color with a twist up pen. I’d be a mess!

No kidding? The brush made is easier for me than a doe-foot sponge applicator, or at least I think it did!
I have one of these but I haven’t had much of a chance to really try it out yet. I also picked up Lip Intense and I really like that one. Great review my dear. Thanks for sharing all the fun colors with us.

Thanks for your comment, sweetie! I have 2 of the Lip Intense and wow, are they intense!! I have to review them soon. These are more moisturizing initially and the colors are less vivid. I like them a lot, actually 🙂
These look really beautiful on you. You’re gorgeous 🙂
Thanks a lot, Anna 🙂
