More This And That

Today, I imagine that everyone (in the U.S.) is getting ready for the long end-of-summer Labor Day Weekend. So product reviews can wait!

Labor Day Weekend Shopping

Everything or almost everything is on sale. I think this weekend is one of the best sales of the year. My favorite CoverFX Total Cover Cream Foundation is on sale for more than 50% off, and at $16.80 marked down from $44, I couldn’t resist, especially since I’ve long since hit pan on it.

I also decided to try their Invisible SPF Duo: SPF 30 Drops and SPF 30 Primer on sale for $21. Other than that, I think I am done.

What about you?

Bedroom Renovation

In fact, all my money has been going to redoing my middle bedroom. This is how it looked before.

I wallpapered that bedroom with a cloud pattern. It’s a small room and I thought it would look larger with light paper. Plus it was going to be a kids’ guest room.

However, I’ve lived in my house now for 23 years, and a few months ago I noticed that the cloud wallpaper was peeling itself off of the walls. Not good.

This time, I decided I was going for a calming ocean theme. I hired Mamadou from Senegal to remove the old wallpaper and paint three of the walls in a shade of blue-green. I made a quick decision about wallpaper for the fourth wall because I didn’t like the samples that I ordered. Crestview Ocean Tide that I bought from Home Depot at the last minute sight unseen looks good with the walls.

Yesterday, the carpeting was installed. Though I can’t get a really good photo of it, it’s an aqua shade with a basketweave pattern that works well with the wallpaper and paint.

Also, the furniture in that former kids’ guest room was from my childhood. Yeah, antiques. I remember when my mother bought the French provincial dresser and night table for me when I was about 9.

About a week or so ago, I advertised the dresser and night table for free on Facebook Marketplace, and free was the right price (even though they were still solid pieces from Bassett). A guy and his father came and carried the furniture down a flight or two of stairs to his van. He and his wife have three young kids, so I hope they will use them. Yay!

I’m buying a more contemporary white dresser that belonged to my friend’s daughter. My friend, sadly, is moving to Cali from the ‘hood, and she’s selling her furniture. I’ll be happy to have something from her house where we spent lots of happy times. The new dresser will go under the big white mirror. I think the drawer knobs will go with the room! This weekend, Jeff and I have to go to her house and carry it down the stairs, put it in the Subaru Forrester, and then carry it up the stairs. Ugh.

Next, the new white metal bed frame arrived. I thought I’d get right to work putting it together, but I think I will tap Jeff for help with that task!

But I’m getting there! The room is almost but not quite finished.

Continuing Problems with Email Service

Well, I still hadn’t figured out what was going wrong with BirdSend, my blogpost delivery service. Although my web developer took care of some coding issues, I hadn’t set up the RSS feed correctly. Honestly, BirdSend is the most difficult ESP I have ever worked with. I don’t understand the jargon that they use (e.g. what does “Display Trigger” mean?). And each segment has several different categories that you have to go through. It’s ridiculous.

I created a new subscription form for the people who want to sign up to receive my almost daily posts. The one I am currently using isn’t compatible with BirdSend (no surprise). So I created a new one:

My problem now is that I can’t figure out how to insert it into my sidebar where my current one is. Everything is a hassle.

So again, if you don’t get my posts next week, it doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m not blogging. It probably means that my IT guy and I have not figured out the email service yet!

It took me about 15 minutes to set up both Mailchimp and Madmimi, my former email service companies. So far, my IT guy and I have put in several hours to set up my account, and it’s still not working!

Enjoy the weekend, and have a wonderful holiday!!

I love what you’re doing in that small bedroom. What a lift.
I got two emails today within minutes of each other. The second was from MadMimi and the first was listed under your name.
Marty has Covid so no plans for this weekend. I can’t even see the grandkids!

    1. Thank you, Marcia, re: the bedroom reno. And my best to Marty for a quick covid recovery. Not fair! I hope you will not get it. Bummer about missing the weekend with your family 🙁
