Alpha Skin Care Renewal Body Lotion w/ 12% Glycolic Acid

Since today’s the final day of the Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, I wanted to tell you about Alpha Skin Care Renewal Body Lotion with 12% Glycolic Acid now, even though I have only been using this new-to-me body lotion for about a week.

I searched on Amazon, and I found that Alpha Renewal Body Lotion is on sale. Even though I haven’t finished the tube that I received from a PR person, I like this body lotion so much that I bought another one in a 4x bigger pump bottle to keep in my stash.

I was sent the travel size tube (3 fl. oz.) of Alpha Skin Care Renewal Body Lotion with 12% Glycolic AHA.

Although I have had experience using glycolic acid on my face (I’m currently using Lion Pose Unspotted 4x Dark Spot & Hyperpigmentation Serum on my face that also has glycolic acid as a key ingredient), but I have never used body lotion with glycolic acid. Honestly, I thought that hydration and firmness were most important to me in a body lotion, and I usually associate glycolic with fading dark spots. Nevertheless, I thought I should try it and see what it might do for me.

These are the benefits listed by Alpha Skin Care:

  • Thoroughly hydrates and gently exfoliates
  • Leaves skin younger-looking from head to toe
  • Evens skin tone and texture
  • All-day glow
  • For all skin types
  • Free of parabens, sulfates and fragrances

My Experience So Far with Alpha Renewal Body Lotion

So far, I was surprised in a very positive way by this white, rich body lotion. It’s a lightweight but rich lotion.

My primary concern is hydration because my skin is so unbelievably dry. This lotion really delivers on moisture for me. This is kind of an old school lotion containing some old school ingredients that have been used for more than 100 years and many dermatologists still recommend them for very dry skin: petrolatum, mineral oil and lanolin alcohol. Lanolin alcohols are a rich source of cholesterol, an important skin lipid, and are powerful water-in-oil emulsifiers.

Renewal Body Lotion also contains dimethicone, and it definitely makes my skin feel silky smooth like it did when I was younger. I was surprised that the softness and silkiness lasted till the next day!

Importantly, glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy-acid, (thus, the Alpha brand name) exfoliates/removes dead skin cells and leaves skin feeling soft and smooth. I wondered why my feet, on which I have delayed using my Amope Smooth Feet device for months, actually felt smooth and soft. It was the glycolic acid!

I’m curious to see if the glycolic acid does anything to fade at least some of the dark spots on my legs. Those years of beach going without reapplying sunscreen have really taken a toll on me. We’ll see, but at this point, that’s not my major goal.

I intend to give Alpha Renewal Body Lotion to good workout. Jeff and I are going to visit friends in Maine next week, so I will take the travel size tube of Alpha Renewal Body Lotion with me. And when the 12 oz. pump bottle of Alpha Body Lotion arrives today or tomorrow, I will definitely use it more liberally on my skin after my shower.

A word of caution, however. If you live in an area where you are outdoors all year round wearing shorts and sleeveless tops, make sure you apply sunscreen. If you use AHAs, you need to protect your skin from sun exposure!

Alpha Skin Care Renewal Body Lotion is sold on the Alpha website (where everything is Buy One, Get One at 40% Off with code BOGO40) as well as on Amazon. The travel size retails at $9.99 and the 12 fl. oz. pump bottle is regularly priced at $18.99 (it even comes in larger sizes!) but is currently on sale for $15.19 on Amazon.

Ingredients: Water, Petrolatum, Glycolic Acid, Glycerin, Ammonium Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Dimethicone, Mineral Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Lanolin Alcohol, PEG-40 Stearate, Sorbitan Stearate, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate

Addendum: On another topic, the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer in Nickel/Copper is on sale during Amazon Prime Days for 23% off at $329. Though it’s not exactly cheap, it is $100 less than the regular price. I have had my Dyson for 5 years now and I paid full price for it, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
