Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm

You’re probably sick of me complaining about my dry lips. Well, I have finally found a product that seems to make a real difference. Do you know it? Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm. It is part of a men’s skincare line called Jack Black Authentic and Original, but as far as I’m concerned, lip balm is gender neutral.

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm

I discovered Jack Black (I keep thinking about the actor and guy from Tenacious D!) at Sephora during their Beauty Insiders promotion in early April. It comes in a variety of flavors depending on where you buy it:

  • grapefruit & ginger
  • black tea & blackberry
  • lemon & chamomile
  • vanilla & lavender (that was my first choice but it was sold out)
  • natural mint & shea butter
  • shea butter & vitamin E
  • black cherry & pomegranate
  • Aisan pear & white tea
  • original: not sure what scent or flavor that is.

On the Jack Black website (getjackblack.com), there is a “quad” you can buy of 4 different flavors for $25. Clearly the way to go if you discover you love the product.

Jack Black Lip Balm also has SPF 25. It doesn’t have sulfates or phthalates.

Here’s what Sephora says about tit:

  • Field tested in extreme conditions, this conditioning balm contains antioxidants and superior moisturizers to provide lasting treatment benefits. Shea butter and avocado oil promote extreme hydration while vitamin E and green tea deliver essential antioxidants. Great for daily use, it provides broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

What I say is it’s great. It’s not greasy, but it’s soothing and hydrating. It doesn’t have a taste really, but I am definitely aware of the black tea and blackberry-ness of it. Maybe it’s a black tea scent? Whatever it is, it is mild and not bothersome. It’s long lasting. If I apply it before bed, I can tell it’s still there in the morning. Sometimes I wear it under my lipstick, especially when I’m wearing a lipstick that I know is drying. I plan to wear it to the beach this summer.

It’s a pricey item. The regular price is $7.50 for a small tube of 0.25 oz. Glad I had my 15% off coupon. But when I run out, I know I’ll repurchase this because it really works!

Jack Black Lip Balm is available at Sephora, Nordstrom, Ulta.com, Beauty.com, Amazon, Skinstore.com, and on getjackblack.com.

So if you find you’re out of options for your dry lips, give Jack Black a try! Which is your favorite lip balm?

    1. It is pricey, Alisia, and probably too pricey for me too. I got it with my 15% off coupon at Sephora, lol. But I think I’ve fallen for Jack Black 😉

  2. I, too, have dry lips from this cold northeast. I am def going to check this out when I run out of my current lip therapy balm (I am using Marie Veronique Organics).

  3. Sounds like a winner! What is working very well for me right now is Burt’s Bees lip balm. It’s sooooo moisturizing it’s almost ridiculous.

    1. That’s great! I will have to look at the BB ingredients. I used to try their colored lip balm sticks but they have peppermint oil that dries out my lips.

  4. I’ve never tried this before. My $1 Carmex in a pot works so well that I don’t really brand out to try other balms.

    1. If I found something for $1 that works, I’d stick with it too! Unfortunately, some of the others I’ve tried either have peppermint oil which dries out my lips or they don’t last. JB is kinda expensive but it actually helps me, thankfully

  5. I try to make sure I have several of these on hand at all times! The Natural Mint is my favorite!

    1. I’m glad you know about these great little balms too! My lips are sensitive to peppermint oil so I was afraid to try the Natural Mint. I’ll have to check the ingredients. The Black Tea & Blackberry is very nice 🙂

  6. I’ve heard great things about this, thanks for the review! I want to check it out.

  8. I read so many raves about this lip balm but it contains ingredients in my no fly zone.

    1. That’s why I always try to publish the ingredient list so a reader knows upfront what’s in there. The SPF ingredients?

    1. I love it, Kelly!

  9. rach says:

I’m in love with the grapefruit ginger one. There is somewhat of a citrus taste to it and I would say that the scent is pretty strong though both dissipate quite a bit during the first 10 minutes or so. It’s more sweet grapefruit than ginger.
If you’re just going for the moisture/repair aspect and don’t care about the SPF, I find that Eucerin’s Aquaphor lip repair works just about as well. It doesn’t feel quite as luxurious, and the ingredient list is totally different (as well as no spf) but it costs half as much and you get a bit more product. I use it at night and save my Jack Black for when I’m out and about.
Does your tube list a lot more ingredients than the Sephora info? Mine does. I’m not super-picky but I am a little disappointed that Sephora can’t post accurate content. The actual Jack Black site is a lot more informative. They should be, considering it’s their product, but really all Sephora needed to do was copy/paste…. lol

    1. Thank you so much, Rach, for pointing out the abbreviated ingredient list!! I am going to update the post right now. Yes, some folks who avoid parabens may want to pass. But I have been reading so much about them that I feel OK about using products with those ingredients. This is definitely a pricey product, but it actually lasts all night for me. I can’t believe it’s still on my lips in the morning. And since spring/summer will be here eventually, I do like having the SPF especially when I’m outside jogging or working in my garden. You mentioned the grapefruit/ginger version. I had thought about trying it but because of my cholesterol RX I can’t eat grapefruit, and even though it’s probably only a tiny bit I thought I’d better choose another. The getjackblack website lists all of them as “fragrance-free” which I think is funny since I love the tea smell of mine.

  10. I need to try this! I hate chapped lips!

    1. I really like it, Eugenia!

  11. I like this but I love the Supergoop SPF 30 lip balm.
Phyrra recently posted…Kiss Gel Dress Nails MajesticMy Profile

    1. Thanks, Phyrra, for the Supergoop suggestion. I like the SPF 30, but I was sad to discover it’s even more expensive than Jack Black! What’s with these pricey lip balms, lol?

  12. I have always wondered about this product but never purchased it. I should try it at least once.

    1. Silvana, hope I didn’t over promise on the non-greasiness! It kind of dries down a bit and stays put, but I can feel a coating on my lips…but for me, that coating is a good thing. And it’s not waxy like inexpensive lip balms.

  15. Sounds like a fab lip balm!

  33. I live in a dry desert climate and have yet to find a lip balm that I am completely satisfied with. I guess I will have to quit being so cheap and start trying the more expensive ones.

    1. Darlene, I wouldn’t say you’re cheap at all! I feel the same way. I justified buying mine because I had the 15% off coupon from Sephora. Today, I was “window shopping” at Saks, and I noticed that they sell Jack Black there too. Unfortunately, the 25% off Friends & Family Sale ended yesterday. 🙁 Otherwise, I would’ve picked one up for less than $6…though compared to Chapstick, lol, it’s still a lot of money. However, I was surprised at how expensive the Nivea new lip balms were…about $5 for a drugstore brand, I think. If you end up trying Jack Black, please let me know, if you remember, how it worked out for you. Keep your eyes open for a sale!!

  34. I love this line of balms. I own the same one you do. These are great balms that are indeed gender neutral.

    1. It is pricey, Amara, but it’s work quite well on my dry lips. But I agree, if you’re not desperate for a lip fix, I’d use up what you’ve already got 😉
