In April, Zoya had a special promotion for Earth Day. The hook was to exchange your old non-Zoya polish for new Zoya polish. You had to purchase at least 6 bottles of Zoya, each 50% off. Once you received your new Zoya polish, you could send them 6 old bottles to be disposed of in a sustainable manner.
I couldn’t pass up this deal. Recently, I received my 6 shiny new bottles of polish, but I still haven’t sent back 6 old non-Zoya ones. Isn’t that awful? I admit it. I’m lazy, and I assume I have to pay the shipping, although maybe not since I paid the shipping to receive the polish. Oh well. I’m not sure I want to give up any of my polishes anyway.
So, here’s what I got:
Today, I’m going to show you two: Flora and Monet. I’ll save the rest for another time.
Flora is a medium pink cream, almost like cotton candy. It’s a 1960s kind of shade. I think it’s cool-toned, but I’ve seen it described as warm-toned, so I guess it’s good for both warm and cool undertones. At any rate, it’s extremely girly and very pretty.
I was doing something else while I did this mani, and I wasn’t paying attention. In doing what I did, I discovered a way to make getting glitter polish off easily — as long you don’t mind that the mani won’t last too long!
Instead of starting with a base coat, I inadvertently applied Orly Sec ‘n Dry. I realized what I did, but it didn’t seem like a big deal, so I applied Revlon ColorStay base coat on top of it. Next, I applied two coats of Zoya Flora. Then I added a coat of Deborah Lippmann topcoat, and another coat of Orly Sec ‘n Dry. That’s a lot of polish.
I wore Flora on its own for several hours. And I liked the way it looked.
But I was really curious about Monet, a pastel glitter topcoat that really does look like the colors in a Monet waterlilies painting.
So I decided to add two coats of Monet on top of the million coats of polish I already had on. Two coats were necessary because one coat didn’t provide enough of the flecks to make it look like anything. Then I added another coat of Orly Sec ‘n Dry. Now, how many coats in total is that? Nine, I think. Yikes.
Monet on top of Flora turns out to be maybe a little too sparkly princess. I think I got carried away. Next time, I will try Monet with the pale blue shade I bought.
When I started writing this post, all the polish on my pointer finger just peeled right off. On its own. Just like that. The next day, the polish on two more nails came right off, each in one piece. Then I put on gloves to wash the pots and pans, and all the others except the thumbs came right off. How bizarre! I guess the topcoat as basecoat is peel-able, and I must have had too much polish on. So, if you’re doing a glitter polish, try Orly Sec ‘n Dry as the base, if you have some around the house, and see if it works. Here’s my own personal stick-on nail!
What do you think about Flora? Perfect for On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink. I know not everyone likes pink as much as I do, but I love this shade. Have you tried either of these Zoya shades? What’s your favorite spring shade?
As I’ve mentioned in previous Zoya posts, Zoya is 5-free (free of toluene, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, and camphor). It’s also cruelty-free. I recently read a great article from Redbook listing 10 Non-toxic Polishes that Actually Work, and Zoya was right there!
Each bottle contains 0.5 fl.oz. It’s made in the U.S. Flora’s regular price is $9 and Monet is $10. I bought it on zoya.com this time, but it’s also available at Ulta, on Amazon and at salons.
The Monet actually does look pretty good. I wish I would have known about the Earth Day promotion as I have a few partially used bottles to send in.
Monet really is pretty, Darlene. I hate to admit it but I didn’t send back any partially empties 🙁
Monet looks gorgeous!
But how disappointing and weird that the nail polish came off just like that! Not good!

It sure is!
I have this happen sometimes when I use a lot of coats, or like you said, not the right base! I was using some Garlic base coat from LA Girl and it took me a couple days to figure out why whole sheets of polish were coming off my fingers!

What does that mean, “Garlic” base coat, Judy? I’m glad I’m not the only one, lol
Oh I love Flora! Those are so pretty!

I think I should’ve done a couple of more coats, Leticia, but I had so many coats on already I was afraid it would peel off…and it did!
Monet is one of the polishes I picked up in the Earth Day promo, as well. Couldn’t resist. 😀

I’d love to see what you’ve done with Monet, Erika!
I have experienced glitter polishes peeling off, but not like your´s did – mine peeled off in bigger pieces. But the combo itself does look lovely 🙂

Thanks, Leelo. I think it would’ve benefited from a couple of coats of Monet but I had so many coats on I was afraid it would peel…and it did! Funny
Those two look really lovely together! I heard other bloggers say that Monet is a letdown, but I think it’s quite pretty 🙂

I can understand why they were let down. I know I needed to apply a couple of more coats of Monet so that it looked like something, but I was worried it would peel. And even with only one coat of Monet on top of all the other coats, it did!!
You really did get your nails to look like the painting!

I had been scared off of Monet after all the bad reviews, but I think when it goes on sale again, I’ll get it. I’ll use the Nail Wish sponging technique to build up the glitter if I need to!

Nidia, what is the Nail Wish sponging technique?? It’s sounds so mysterious! I didn’t care about the reviews. I wanted it because of the colors and the name. I knew it would remind me of the Waterlilies 😉
