80 Acres Body Care of McEvoy Ranch

Last week, I was in San Francisco on a business trip for about 30 hours. Before work, I was able to get in a long walk to one of my favorite haunts, the Ferry Building. If you haven’t been there, the Ferry Building is just that, the place you go to get the ferry to Sausalito or Tiburon and a few other places. A number of years ago, the Ferry Building was spruced up to house some wonderful restaurants including The Slanted Door and a variety of stalls mostly selling artisanal products. A couple of days a week, there’s a Farmer’s Market outside. I adore it!

On my trip to SF in February during my pilgrimage to the Ferry Building, I discovered 80 Acres Body Care in one of the stalls.

McEvoy Ranch is an olive farm in Petaluma in Northern California, the vision of the granddaughter of the man who started the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper. I haven’t been there yet, but I hope to one of these days. Nan McEvoy bought the ranch in the 1990s after retiring from the Board of Directors at the Chronicle, as a place to retire and for her family’s enjoyment. Zoned only for agriculture, the ranch became an olive farm. She conferred with a leading olive oil maker from Tuscany about how to produce the best olives and olive oil. She imported 1000 olive tree seedlings from Tuscany from which to start her farm on 80 acres of the land. McEvoy Ranch uses their olives to make organic extra virgin olive oil that they sell in all sizes including gallon jugs and in their line of olive oil-based body care products.

80 Acres Body Care is produced in small batches using organic ingredients whenever possible. All of the products are free of sulfates, parabens and phthalates. They are not tested on animals. The packaging is made from recycled materials.

The body care products come in four luscious scents:

  • Verde: fresh, green, aromatic
  • Lavender: made from essential oils of lavender, ylang ylang, lemon and lime
  • Cedar: warm wood and floral notes
  • Blood Orange: citrus and wild jasmine.

Each of the scents comes in a variety of products:

  • body butter
  • body balm (full and travel size)
  • hand & body lotion (full and travel size)
  • body oil
  • hand and body wash
  • shampoo and conditioner
  • lip balm
  • bar soap.

I adore citrus scents so in February, I bought the body butter that comes in an 8 oz. tub for $38.

It is thick and creamy, and the citrus scent is fabulous.

body butter

It goes on white, and you really have to work it in, but it is very moisturizing and the moisture is long-lasting, almost as long-lasting as the synthetic drugstore brands with chemicals that account for their long-lasting effects. When possible, I prefer to use skincare products with natural or organic ingredients, since they are absorbed by the skin.

Although I’m only about 60% through the tub of body butter, I took this opportunity to buy another one. And with my purchase, I received a free travel size (2.5 fl. oz. that looked full size to me) hand and body lotion.

I got it in Blood Orange too, since I’m obsessed with that scent. The hand lotion would have been $12. Although it’s called a lotion, it is very thick, much more like a cream.

hand & body

It takes a minute or two to absorb into my skin because of the oils, but it makes my skin soooo soft, not greasy, and it smells fabulous. Love it!

So if you’re a body products junkie like I am and you love natural skincare in amazing scents, check out 80 Acres Body Care. I think the skincare products are especially good for those with dry skin. In addition to being sold at the Ferry Building, you can buy it on the McEvoy Ranch website, at Gump’s department store in San Francisco, and on Amazon.
