When it comes to perfume, I know what types of scents work with my body chemistry. Eau de toilette or cologne just doesn’t last on me at all. Well, maybe for 10-15 minutes. Eau de parfum lasts somewhat longer, especially if I pile it on. But oils last longest on me.
So when I noticed a review of KIORI Perfume Oil, I stopped to check it out. I also know what scent families smell best on me. When I read the description of KIORI, I ordered a sample vial.
KIORI is a new (launched in 2014) Oriental scent, created by Lisa Wallos.
It is positioned as gender neutral. The other fragrances I wear are also gender neutral Orientals, so when I read that, I thought that this would suit me even without smelling it in advance. And when the little sample vial in a black drawstring bag arrived, I tried it immediately. I knew it was right on target for me.
KIÖRI perfume oil is a natural, handcrafted fragrance composed of pure perfume, resins and essential oils from the plant world. It features notes of vanilla, patchouli and florals in a base of natural jojoba oil rather than artificial chemicals. But it isn’t a girly scent. IMHO, it’s a deep, but soft Oriental scent. And I don’t really detect the floral notes – they must be well-blended with the other notes, especially the vanilla – to produce a slightly sweet scent that I definitely love. And sweet scents are not usually my thing, so it can’t be that sweet.
I checked out how other people rated KIORI on Fragranta. They felt patchouli is the strongest note, and I would agree. But it’s not a hippie scent, and it doesn’t smell like incense. Though when it dries down, a bit of spice comes through. It’s a warm, enveloping scent. It’s earthy, and I think that gives it its bit of masculinity.
On me, KIORI lasts for 6 hours or more, and the average rating is 7-12 hours. The sillage (i.e. the degree to which the scent radiates) is moderate according to the raters and to me too: it radiates within an arm’s length.
The raters tend to “love it”, and think it’s a fall/winter and evening scent. Although I love it too, I wear big scents all year round and during the day as well as at night. I’m not bound by convention when it comes to perfume.
KIÖRI is a highly concentrated fragrance available in 1/4 oz. and 1/8 oz. rollerball bottles. I liked the sample I bought on the website so much that I bought the 1/8 oz. size.
It is sold on the KIORI website where it’s 20% off till the end of the year with free shipping. If you or someone you know likes natural perfumes, perfume oil or Oriental scents, check this one out. It would make a great last minute gift or think ahead for Valentine’s Day 😛
KIORI is my current fragrance heartthrob. What’s yours?
Sounds right up my alley. I love oriental scents like this. And the packaging is so pretty too.

Gio, you might really like this one! Too bad the shipping to Europe would be prohibitive, I think, because it is a very lovely scent.
This sounds nice. I’ve never tried perfume oils. Eu de parfums last longer on my as well. Toilets are a waste of money.

Perfume oils last even longer than eau de parfum, but I love ’em both
I’ve never used a perfume oil! Def will be checking them out!

Thank you so much, Jessica! I find it so difficult to write about fragrances. I hoped what I wrote captured it 🙂
I’ve only purchased one perfume oil in my life and that’s the Satsuma oil (I don’t believe they sell this anymore).
The scent as you describe it sounds intriguing as I’m not familiar with an Oriental scent.

There are 4 major scent families: Floral, Woody, Fresh & Oriental. Oriental scent tends to be rich, bold, spicy, maybe sweet, and exotic. They contain Oriental resins and components like amber, sandalwood, patchouli, cardamom, clove & chocolate etc. Oriental scents are the only ones that work with my body chemistry. Fortunately, I love them.
Excellent in-depth review, Allison! I absolutely love perfume oils! They are so pleasant to use and the scent lasts longer.

I don’t care for oriental scents. My current fav is Toyko Milk Tainted Love, a departure for me!

Everyone has their own favorites. I can’t wear florals or fresh scents. In spite of some of the lovely fragrances, they just don’t work for me
Sounds like something I’d like!

I use parfum the most, followed by edt. I rarely use oil-based fragrance but this sounds divine to me!

Oil works for me ‘coz my skin has such a hard time holding onto the scent, so it is rather limiting
Right at this moment, Wild Madagascar Vanilla from BBW is my favorite. That could change tomorrow, though!

I love it, Melissa. It is yummy 🙂
I’ve always wondered if it was just me that eau de toilette didn’t work on. I have the darndest time keeping a scent on for any length of time. Maybe I should try these perfume oils! I love wearing a scent.
No, me too! In order of staying power least to most: cologne, EDT, eau de parfum, parfum, oil 🙂
