A Blast from the Past: Nordea’s Soaperie Hippie Chick Perfume Oil

As I mentioned a few times this past year, fragrances just aren’t lasting on me for very long. It’s not my sense of smell deteriorating, because my nose is as acute as ever. So I decided to go back to a powerhouse scent that I discovered almost a decade ago.

Informational Link I Bought This

Back in 2012 maybe, Jeff and I went to a craft fair in Boston. I was attracted to Nordea’s Soaperie (originally written about here), bath and body products handmade by a young woman in her kitchen in Brooklyn. I wanted to send a little birthday gift to my friend’s daughter who was turning 12 at the time. In addition to a few bars of her handmade soap, I bought a rollerball of one of her perfume oils, Hippie Chick, that I thought young Madison would like. While I was at it, I decided to buy a vial of Hippie Chick for myself.

I got hooked and wore it on and off for several years. Then I took a break for a while.

I didn’t realize that the essential oil, Hippie Chick, was a thing, a well-known scent combination. Here are the notes that I found on another website: “lavender buds blended with patchouli, sandalwood, ylang, amber, violet, cedarwood and powdery tonka”. It definitely has a retro 1967 Summer of Love vibe about it.

It’s a strong scent and it really grabs hold of my skin. But it’s not overpowering. The dry down is powdery. Even though it costs $12 at Nordea’s Soaperie for a small rollerball, I get compliments every time I wear it!

So I am back to wearing Hippie Chick this summer. Not that I go anywhere, but with social/physical distancing, I need a scent with extravagant sillage.

Check out the Nordea’s Soaperie website for her handmade bar soap, perfume oils that come in 7 fragrances, body lotion, and other handmade goodies.

  1. This sounds lovely, and I agree that it is really nice to use lovely fragrances while we are social distancing. I think that it is nice to take time to try and pamper ourselves while we are at home trying to flatten and lower the curve!

  2. Were essential oils even popular back then or was this artisan brand ahead of its time. Sooner or later you’ll be out and smelling great with your use this.
