A New Pearl Necklace from Etsy

I Bought This, Affiliate Links

Recently, I got a new necklace from an artisan who lives in Wuppertal, Germany. Her name is Susanne Rose, and the name of her shop is “cakecandleholder“.

As usual, I was seduced by an ad for one of her pearl necklaces that popped up in my Facebook feed. I thought about it for a long time. Here’s what it looks like on a model.

Susanne has several different styles of pearl necklaces on bendable wire. The “waterfall” pearl necklace above is adjustable. The golden bendable wire has a tiny pearl at the end of an adjustable loop so that you can adjust the length of the necklace. I loved this style because it has the most pearls, 11 in total. 😉

But I was afraid that even though adjustable it would be too long for me. Usually when I wear a necklace, the chain is about 15″ or 15.5″ long. I wrote to Susanne and ask her if she could make the chain shorter, and though she doesn’t speak English well, it seemed like she understood what I was asking. In fact, she said she was happy to oblige in any way. She also said that if I didn’t like it, I could return it for exchange or refund.

The waterfall necklace comes in two ways: all white freshwater pearls or a mixture of white and pink freshwater pearls. I chose the mixture of white and pink. I’m afraid my iPhone camera may not be sensitive enough to pick up the color differences. But you can kind of see the difference in the photo below.

Actually, I should have asked if I could have all pink pearls, but I didn’t think of that. In person, the pink pearls are a blush shade and their tint is very subtle. They don’t look that different from the white. All the pearls of various sizes and shapes are very pretty.

It took about 2 weeks for the necklace to arrive from Germany. The presentation was lovely. It came in a pretty little pouch with a rose for Susanne Rose. I thought I took a photo of the pouch, but now it has disappeared, boo.

I tried on the necklace, and I thought that it is actually a little too long for me. Although it works with my V-neck nightgown, it seems a little long with most of my clothes.  I messaged Susanne via Etsy, but I didn’t see her reply until today. She said that I can return it, and she would either shorten it or I could choose another necklace.

In the meantime, I have tried been playing around with it, adjusting the necklace in different ways, and I have decided to keep it. Here I am wearing it with a blush colored sweater. I decided that if the necklace is against fabric rather than all against my skin, it’s fine. On occasion, I wear it over a high neckline and it still looks nice.

Some time in the future, I may decide to get a shorter necklace with fewer pearls that I could wear every day. Susanne has a style with pearls and your choice of semi-precious stones that I also like, though she was trying to talk me out of that one because she said the chain is “too delicate”, but maybe we were each talking about a different necklace. The wire/chain on the waterfall necklace is doubled and, therefore, sturdier, and so is the chain with the pearls and semi-precious stone.

I think she must have been referring to a different necklace where the chain is a single strand.

Regardless, I love Susanne Rose’s feminine, pretty pearl necklaces. And they are affordable too. The waterfall necklace is priced at $40.33 including shipping from Germany to the U.S. Can’t beat that!

If you’re in need of a gift for a friend or relative or just a treat for yourself, check out Susanne Rose’s “cakecandleholder” shop on Etsy. And yes, she makes candleholders for birthday or wedding cakes, too!

Beautiful! And BTW, you get better ads on Facebook than I do, LOL.

    1. Thanks, Kim! FB probably knows I’m an easier mark than you 😉

Allison, love this necklace! Wish I still worked so I could justify another piece of jewelry. Right now my jewelry box is over flowing with jewelry I have no reason to wear. But I sure love it 🥰

    1. Sandy, I wish I had your restraint! My jewelry box(es) are overflowing as well. I used to justify buying jewelry because we used to go places. Certainly now, I don’t need a thing. But I pretty much wear a necklace and earrings everyday. I had wanted to be able to wear this new necklace everyday, but because it is longer than I hoped, I have to wear with certain outfits. Oh well. I just don’t want to send it back to Germany, so I will wear it when I wear an appropriate neckline. It is so pretty in person!

  3. What a stunning necklace, Allison! It looks positively gorgeous on you!

This necklace looks perfect on you. It’s not too long at all! I am amazed that it only took two weeks for an order to arrive all the way from Germany! That is amazing! A very reasonable price indeed. Susanne Rose makes beautiful jewelry. Now you need matching earrings!

    1. Oh Mary, don’t encourage me, lol! I love Susanne Rose’s drop pearl earrings that are surrounded by a gold box. But I have blush-colored pearl studs that I wear every day, and I am trying to convince myself that I’m all set 😉 Thank you!!!

  5. You have fabulous taste. This necklace is so beautiful. I’m very impressed with it. I have the opposite problem and usually find that necklaces are too short for me. But you are so petite. Love this, wear it in good health (I’m repeating what my mom would say!)

    1. I can certainly see how you would think that the necklace looks like a constellation! How clever! I’m Aries, and I am afraid that constellation is boxier-looking.

  7. Such a unique pearl necklace! I love original not every day pieces like this! Gorgeous! I agree with Cindy’s comment – I see a constellation.

    1. I think necklaces on bendable wire has become a thing since I have two others on black wire. But this golden wire pearl necklace really stood out to me. And yes, it does look like a constellation! Now which one is it?

  10. Oh my word, I love this so much Allison! I’ve been looking to buy a couple of pearl pieces that have a more modern design than the classic string of pearls and these are exactly what I had in mind. Thank you for introducing me to this seller, I’ll take a look at her designs!
