Adjust Your Mood with Simply Earth Diffuser and Essential Oils

It’s been raining in Massachusetts for more than two months. My lawn looks like Ireland. I know I shouldn’t complain because we were in a drought for more than a year, and the rain has pulled us out of it. But this is getting ridiculous. I’ve got cabin fever. I need to see some sun. I could use some mood elevation, for sure.

Simply Earth Diffuser and Essential Oils

Several months ago, I got a package from Simply Earth. Simply Earth makes pure essential oils. The scents from natural essential oils alone or in combination with other essential oils have been known to alter mood by energizing, calming, de-stressing, creating alertness, etc. according to which oils were selected. I had never really tried them. Although I was curious, the Simply Earth package sat in my closet for a quite awhile. A couple of weeks ago as I hit rock bottom (almost) mood wise from the gloomy weather, I sought out the Simply Earth package and finally opened it.

Inside was a very cute diffuser. It’s small so it can sit on even a narrow table, though sometimes I put it on the floor. When I plugged it in, the unit itself flashed with a white light. Next, I discovered that it has a color changing mode where the unit flashes through all the colors of the rainbow. The pretty rainbow colors are almost enough to help raise my spirits on their own.

Although I had never tried an essential oil diffuser, I am a scent person. I love fragrances. I love to grow flowers that actually smell. I have about a million perfumes. I even love me a good scented fabric softener. So I was very open minded about trying essential oils that I could broadcast throughout my rooms, scent that might even have a psychological benefit for me!

Along with the diffuser came a “recipe box” full of goodies. Inside were 4 amber bottles with easy-to-use dropper tops, each containing 15 ml of essential oil.

Because I must have received this set around Christmas time, the recipe box included scents that are Christmas-y:

  • pine
  • rosemary
  • frankincense
  • Happy Joy, a mix of several essential oils: Geranium, Sweet Orange, Neroli, and Ylang Ylang.

There was a 5th box included: a 10 ml amber roll-on bottle called Curb Hunger made up of several essential oils that are meant to curb appetite. I guess that’s included at holiday time to keep us from overindulging! I tried it a week ago, but my desire for goodies was greater than Curb Hunger’s power at that time. Funny though, I tried Curb Hunger again a couple of hours ago, and at 7:15pm, I still haven’t had dinner and I’m not hungry in the least. Hmmm, this could be something big!

The Simply Earth box also included little DIY gifts for the holidays as well as a “recipe ring” with instructions on how to make the gifts or how to combine the oils to create different scents and effects.

Here are some examples of the gift ideas and the paraphernalia included to create them:

  • Christmas Air Freshener that is made from rosemary and pine EOs, baking soda (you have to provide this), a mason jar and ribbon (included)
  • Holiday Home Scent Spray: pine and frankincense EOs, water and a silver spray bottle (included)
  • directions for making your of scented Christmas tree ornaments from frankincense EO, baking soda, corn starch, water, and string.

They also included a gift card, printed gift labels, two extra mini dropper-top amber bottles as well as a plastic measuring cup to add water to the diffuser unit. Very impressive and useful set up indeed!

How to Use the Diffuser and Essential Oils

The diffuser and oils are easy to use. Just lift off the clear outer plastic cover on the diffuser, take off the white plastic top, fill the measuring cup with water to the line on the cup, fill the inside of the unit, add drops of essential oil, put the covers back on, and turn on the unit.

Soon water vapor will start to come out of the top, and you’ll begin to smell the scent. The scent really fills the space! You can turn it on so that it goes until empty, or you can choose to have it on for either 2 or 4 hours. Since the amount of water added is the same, I’m assuming the timing device affects how quickly or slowly the vapor comes out of the unit.

You can also turn on the Light color changing mechanism via the little push bar at the bottom of the unit for the full light show, if desired! While it’s working, you can sometimes here the water sloshing around which I find rather soothing.

This afternoon, I’m using Happy Joy, a combination that’s supposed to create joy and help you de-stress. I brought my car into the dealership today for an oil change, and discovered that the car needs $2000 worth of repairs. I definitely need help de-stressing, and the dreary weather isn’t helping. Deep breaths along with Happy Joy have helped lift my spirits somewhat, though Happy Joy won’t pay my repair bill 🙁

The recipe ring provides suggestions about how to combine the essential oils provided in the recipe box to create different effects or mood states.

Individual essential oils are priced from $6.99 and up with the average price around $10-12. In addition, Simply Earth donates 13% of their profits to organizations that are fighting to stop human trafficking.

I need to pick up some soothing, night time essential oils like lavender to help me fall asleep faster. In fact, I just took the quiz on the website that’s supposed to match you with essential oils, and lavender was recommended for me. By sharing that on Facebook, I got a code for a free essential oil! I plan to get lavender. Plus I’ve read that lemon eucalyptus oil is good for repelling mosquitos and deer ticks so I may give that a go as well.

Morning 🙋🏻☕️☕️🍩🍩 Essential oils is the rage right now. Be sure to do your reseach on every single oil. Especially if you have pets. So are toxic if ingested. There are some really informative websites that offer great information. If your having trouble with “hot Flashes” (menopause) essential oils can help. Young Living has an oil called Progessence Plus that can help. My favorite essential oil is Satsuma. I love the scent of fresh oranges. I add a few drops in my unscented whipped argan oil. It’s so fresh smelling. Check out your local Marshalls for essential oils. Great prices……..❤️🌻

    1. Thank you, DiEtta, for adding this info especially about pets. Also, I never thought about looking at Marshalls or TJs for EOs – what a good idea! Ylang Ylang and lavender are next on my list. I was going to get lemon eucalyptus oil to keep away mosquitos and deer ticks, but I need to know that the concentration is about 30%, and I’m not sure how to check that. I’ll buy a natural product that’s already mixed for that.

  2. I LOVE this post! I use my diffuser nearly every day, but it is not nearly as attractive as this one! I need this! Excellent review, Allison!

    1. Thank you, Helen. I really enjoyed your post this morning, too, and thought it was quite a coincidence that we were both talking about essential oils today! I really am having fun with this color-changing diffuser. It was quite a good surprise when I discovered it!

  3. That diffuser looks awesome! I don’t have one that changes colors, but I think I’d find that super relaxing!! I’m going to look into this brand for sure!!! I love essential oils!

    1. I had no idea that the diffuser changed color – I came upon it by accident, and a happy accident it was. I love the colors especially at night in a dark room. I’m impressed with the Simply Earth EOs that I’ve tried so far. I think their prices are good too compared to other sites I’ve looked at since. 🙂

  4. That is a pretty little diffuser. I’ve never used essential oils, although I’ve purchased some in the past. I know they have positive effects on mood and health. I’ll look up this brand if I decide to make a purchase. Thanks for telling us about them.

    1. Although I’m a scent person and I had purchased a couple of essential oils in the past, it took me almost 6 months to break this set out. I have no idea why. Now, I want to buy about a million more EOs to try out. Addictive. Watch out!

  5. I don’t often use essential oils but that diffuser is really cute! I do like to use oils when I make my own sugar scrubs. There are a ton of great combinations there.

  6. Simply Earth sounds like an amazing company, giving so much in donations!
The scents you described seem divine, too.
Don’t you hate when an already expensive car with expensive gas needs expensive repairs?!

    1. Thank you, Lex! You too. The EOs from Simply Earth are great, and the color-changing diffuser makes them even more fun and relaxing. How did you know about my car? Very expensive, requires premium gas…but I neglected to say that my car is 14 years old! But it’s paid for now, and it only has about 85K miles so fixing it and keeping it going is what I must do 😀

  7. Since I’ve never used a diffuser I really appreciate your lesson in how this worked. I had no clue. I wonder if I could do a citrus scent in one. Good luck with your car, that’s no fun.

    1. Yes, there are lots of citrus essential oils: orange, blood orange, satsuma, etc. Every EO brand has them. Very nice and not overpowering. Thanks for the good wishes on my vehicle xo

    1. I don’t know why I waited 5 months to open the box from Simply Earth. I am in love with this diffuser. It is so much fun and so relaxing, and the EOs smell amazing

  10. I love that there are recipies!! I think that’s the hardest part about diffusing – not knowing what oils to use together.

I think it’s brilliant that there’s an essential oils subscription. Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before? I tend to run out of my favourite oils all the time and have to run to buy.

  12. That’s a lovely-looking diffuser! I have several simpler ones from NOW Foods, but I haven’t been running them lately since I don’t need to use AC or heat for the time being so the air is not bone dry.

    1. I don’t use a diffuser to add humidity especially since it’s so small. In fact, I have a dehumidifier to protect my grand piano and artwork. I use it to help me relax at night or pep me up a bit in the morning or give a nice scent to a room – especially after cooking I use it in my great room that’s connected to the kitchen.

  13. That is such a cute little diffuser! I am definitely going to check out their website as I’ve been toying with the idea of getting one, but just hadn’t seen anything I really liked.
