Another Dry Eye Treatment: Aroma Season USB Warm Eye Mask

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the highly portable, relaxing Popmask Starry Eyes Warm Eye Masks (reviewed here). Recently, I made another discovery that’s great for treating my dry eye condition as well as for helping me relax so I can fall asleep: Aroma Season USB Warm Eye Mask.

Unlike the single use Popmask Self-Warming Eye Masks, the Aroma Season needs a power source. But the plus is that it can be used over and over again. It has a USB plug (why are USB plugs such a big thing?) that requires an adapter to plug it into the wall socket near my bed.

I guess if you’re traveling and want to use it, you can just plug it into your laptop? Anyway, the plug isn’t a big deal. For me, a device that I can use without needing to warm it up in a microwave is key.

Aroma Season has 5 heat settings that you adjust with buttons and can see where you are on a little aqua lighted digital screen. I use mine on the highest setting, and it isn’t too hot at all. The mask is large and padded, and it definitely blocks out light so it can be used as a regular sleeping mask. Because I am using it to treat dry eye, I spray a little water on the silky side of the mask at each eye area. As the mask heats, it creates a soothing wet heat situation.

I like that I can remove the silky mask cover (it’s made of silk and cotton) and wash it every few days in the washing machine to keep it clean.

In addition to the 5 heat settings, there is a timer  that shows up on the digital screen with 6 settings in 10 minute intervals. It can be set up to an hour. I usually set mine for 10 minutes, since that’s how long I am supposed to apply wet heat to my eyes. It shuts itself off when the time is reached. Sometimes if I’m having trouble falling asleep, I set it to 20 minutes or a half hour and usually, I will fall asleep before the heat shuts off. It’s a wonderful sleep aid!

The Aroma Season Warm Eye Mask that I bought is supposed to release a lavender scent via a “calming lavender pouch”. To be honest, I can’t smell lavender at all so if you’re looking for a strong lavender scent, you might be disappointed. I think it comes in an unscented version (plus you can just remove the “lavender pouch”), too.

It has an adjustable elastic band that goes around the back of my head to keep the comfortable padded mask on. It also comes with a grey felt storage pouch for travel or just to keep it clean, especially if you don’t use it all the time like I do.

I bought my Aroma Season Warm Eye Mask on Amazon for less than $30. I like the fact that I can use it repeatedly and wash the cover to keep the eye mask cover clean. Also, if I decided to take it with me in the future if I’m traveling, it can go through the TSA check point unlike the self-warming gel packs I used to use. It’s lightweight and doesn’t take up much room in a suitcase. And it doesn’t end up in a landfill like the single-use masks. It’s an all-around excellent product.

When I was writing this review, I noticed on Amazon that Aroma Season makes another heated mask that is smaller in size and contains flaxseed. They advertise this one only to treat blepharitis and dry eye rather than as a relaxation or sleep aid. The smaller size and the shape allows the mask’s heating elements to sit directly on the eyelids to warm them up and help unclog clogged eye ducts. Hmmm, now I’m wondering if I need to try this version that’s slightly more expensive but still less than $30. Nah, my Aroma Season Heated Eye Mask works just fine for me.

Getting ready to go down to the Indy area but quickly put both of these on my wish list. That way at the end of the week I can order them so they will arrive about the time I do!

    1. I’m really happy with the Aroma Season mask that I bought. I just noticed the other one yesterday when I was writing the review, but I feel that the one I bought really does the job. In addition to helping my eyes, I like that it is so comfortable and that it blocks out light. Have a great trip, Sandy!! Safe travels

  3. Sounds like a great product but I don’t think I could fall asleep with it on. Every little thing wakes me.

    1. I’m a terrible sleeper, too, and I have been since I was born. I usually fall asleep somewhere between 1-3AM, but when I use this mask, I often fall asleep with it on. The mask itself is padded and really comfortable – however, the cord can be limiting, so I often end up undoing the cord where it can be taken apart near the mask. If I didn’t need this to treat dry eye, I don’t know if I ever would have tried it. But since I have to put wet heat on my eyes, when I do it at night, it’s one of the few things that actually helps me fall asleep (bonus!)

This is a good follow up after a facial. I think I’ll enjoy it

  5. LAvender is usually a migraine trigger for me so I avoid it. I like the idea of this mask otherwise though.
