There’s nothing like a piece of new jewelry to perk me up especially jewelry that is linked to the new season.
I received a new amber necklace from the artisanal jewelry, accessories, gift, and home decor retailer, Uno Alla Volta last week. I’ve written about them several times before. If you recall, Uno Alla Volta is the catalogue and online retailer that Jeff discovered years ago, and he has given me a number of beautiful artisan-made scarves and ornaments from their treasure-trove of ever changing items. Uno Alla Volta means “one at a time” in Italian and that refers to each piece being crafted one at a time. Back in June, Uno Alla Volta sent me a red, white and blue glass floating necklace that I get compliments on every time I wear it (review here)!
This time, I received Avi’s Amber and Sterling Silver Oval Pendant Necklace that is not only a perfect accompaniment for my red hair, but it coordinates with so many of my fall clothes. Another reason why I love it is that I don’t own anything like it.
Typically, I would describe the piece myself, but I think Uno Alla Volta’s description is perfection:

I had no idea that amber actually has a scent when warmed by the skin. Fascinating! This is the first piece of amber that I have ever owned, and I am so happy to have it. The amber is a glowing piece of magic and also natural history!
Another detail about the pendant is that the smooth amber is enrobed with sterling silver twisted to look like a delicate rope. So pretty!
So far, I have worn the necklace against black, as it is pictured here against black velvet, and I like that the best because the color and warmth of the amber absolutely pops.
But I have also tried styling it with a couple of my autumn outfits.
And I have a yellow-gold suede suit that will be terrific with it. I think it can also be worn with a casual top against bare skin. In fact, I laughed when I looked at the photo because the dark spots from sun damage on my chest mirror the natural spots within the amber!

I love buying handmade things because I like to make things myself. I love knowing that someone used their creativity and talent to make something unique. Avi Soffer, who made my necklace, is an Israeli artisan who has been working with precious metals for more than 30 years. He mentors young artisans and is also a human rights activist. So even though I don’t know him personally, I am glad to know a little bit about him.
