Aveda Tulasara Wedding Masques for Face and Eyes

Months ago, Aveda sent me two new skincare products to try out, and I promptly misplaced them. Fortunately, I went through my PR boxes and found Aveda’s terrific skincare duo: Tulasara Wedding Masque Overnight for Face and for Eyes. Just a reminder, Aveda products are cruelty-free.

They’re called “wedding masques” because they are recommended for use when you want to make a quick and visible change to your skin, like you would before a big event like your wedding when you want your skin to look its very best. But no need to be getting married in order to use these wonderful, hydrating masques.

Tulasara means “moving toward balance” in Sanskrit, and their goal is to put your skin in balance. In fact, the Wedding Masques were inspired by the Haldi ceremony from India, a pre-wedding tradition in which a homemade turmeric paste is applied to the bride and groom for glowing skin on their wedding day. The creams are made with curcuminoids, an extract from turmeric root that helps brighten skin and even skin tone over time.

Both products were developed as nighttime products when you skin rejuvenates. Tthey are ultra rich: perfect for rehydrating dry skin. They are dermatologist tested, non-acnegenic and suitable for all skin types.

Tulasara Wedding Masque

First thing, Tulasara Wedding Masque comes in the coolest faceted heavy plastic that I thought was glass jar (100% post-consumer recycled PET). For those of you who prefer pumps and tubes, this won’t be for you. But I don’t mind using a scoop to keep this clean, and its thickness would make a pump or tube difficult to use.

Here’s a peek at the cream:Aveda Tulasara Wedding Masque cream in the open jar, neversaydiebeauty.com

The benefits of the Wedding Masque include:

  • brighter, more radiant skin
  • even skin tone
  • a firmer, more lifted look
  • strengthening the lipid barrier of the skin to keep moisture in.

In addition to the extract from turmeric, this wonder cream contains tomato, potato and red raspberry plant stem cells to help support skin’s natural repair processes. There are over 587,000 plant stem cells in each jar. Wow! The cream itself has an herbal scent that years ago I labelled the “Aveda scent”, a mixture that smells deep but fresh. Actually, I have since learned that Aveda calls their scent, “pur-fume”, and it comes from a mix of certified organic jasmine, camomile, grapefruit and other pure flower and plant essences. It smells lovely, but it dissipates when applied to my skin.

I love this rich cream. It’s great for overnight use  since that’s what it’s designed for but too rich for under makeup. Now that it’s summer, I apply it when my skin has been exposed to the sun or wind, or when I have an occasion coming up and I want my skin to look plumped and hydrated. In the winter, I know I’ll be reaching for it even more.

Aveda Tulasara Wedding Masque contains 1.7 fl. oz./50 ml. and is priced at $65. You can shop for the Tulasara collection on the Aveda website or at their salons.

Tulasara Wedding Masque for Eyes

Tulasara Wedding Masque for Eyes comes in a smaller version of the faceted heavy recycled plastic jar. Again, use a scoop or spatula to keep it clean.

The eye cream is a different consistency from the face cream. open jar to show the cream of the Aveda Tulasara Wedding Masque for Eyes, neversaydiebeauty.com

It’s a thick, bouncy gel cream, and it feels so wonderful and hydrating on my dry, red eyelids and crease as well as under my eyes. As always, I use it to tighten my droopy skin above my crease, and it works well there too. Unlike the face cream, it is unscented which is a necessity for me with my sensitive eyes.

It is made from 97% naturally derived ingredients. Like the Wedding Masque, the goal of this ultra-rich eye cream is to brighten and hydrate eyes overnight and work towards firmed, more lifted looking eyes over time. More specially, it:

  • helps fade dark circles under eyes over time with the extracts of turmeric, algae, licorice root, and molasses
  • diminishes undereye puffiness with caffeine
  • rejuvenates eyes overnight with plant stem cells and certified organic apricot seed oil.

I love this rich, unscented eye cream, and it is a year round product for me since I have such dry skin around my eyes.

Tulasara Wedding Masque for Eyes contains 0.5 fl. oz./15 ml and is priced at $55. It is pricey, but it is still more affordable than the eye gel I’ve been using for the past couple of years. Plus it’s cruelty-free and natural and it feels more hydrating and comforting than the gel I was using. Yay.

  4. I’m allergic to turmeric! I can get away with a bit of it somewhere down the label in my skincare, but applying/going near/ingesting/inhaling turmeric gives me itching all over 🙁 So much for Indian-ness LOL.

    1. I knew that turmeric reduces inflammation, but I had no idea that it worked topically too. Cool

  9. Paula K says:

What a great review Allison! I knew that Tumeric is great for wound care but never thought that it could be added to skin care. While browsing through Amazon I have run across different Bridal Masks and just didn’t know what they were for exactly.
Both of these sound awesome and I am going to add them to my ever-growing list of things to try!

    1. Thank you so much, Paula! I didn’t know that turmeric was used topically for anything. Wound care, I’ll remember that. Yes, the idea of “wedding” or “bridal” masks is an interesting one especially it was started by cultures in the Far East and India. Because my skin is so dry, the eye masque is perfect for me year round, and the rich masque overnight will be my go-to moisturizer for colder weather and now it’s great for nights when I need extra hydration. They are lovely products. It can be hard to “browse” in Aveda stores, but if you are ever in one, try out the testers!

  10. I think I would like to try the eye masque; I think with the summer months/heat coming the face masque wouldn’t fit with my skin type.

  13. Wedding masque? Now I feel like I need to try them!

    1. Are you getting married, Sarah??? They’re supposed to make an overnight difference in your skin. Truth be told, with my dry skin, I like both the eye cream and the super-duper moisturized for all the time!

      1. Yes! I have dry skin too and I’m always worried my skin will decide to be patchy that day. I’ll check them out!!

        1. Best wishes, Sarah!

  14. Tracey Fintel says:

Are they good for sensitive, combination skin…not oily? And, the eye masque helps with droopy eyelid?

    1. Tracey, the product literature says that the Tulasara Wedding Masque and Eye are good for all skin types, but IMHO they are rich creams with hydrating ingredients. My skin is somewhat sensitive, and the two products are absolutely fine for my dry, somewhat sensitive skin. The eye masque does her firm up my droopy eyelids but then I have been working on that for 20 years – it’s not an instant thing. The rich Tulasara eye masque keeps my skin “in place”. There is a product sold on QVC that is some kind of see-through/invisible temporary thing that you put on your eyes that helps pick up droopy lids or create a crease in hooded eyes. Phyrra.net has written about it but I can’t remember the name. I saw the segment on QVC, and it look impressive. Thank you for the question. I wish I could give you a more definitive answer. Go to an Aveda store and try out a sample to be sure!

  15. Tracey Fintel says:

Thank you, Allison! This is so helpful! One last question, do you use a daytime moisturizer from aveda? I just got a sample of the Botanical Kinetics Intense Hydrating Soft Creme and am curious to hear your thoughts about it.

    1. No, Tracey, I haven’t tried a moisturizer with SPF from Aveda yet. They mostly send me haircare products including a fabulous hair treatment/serum that I must review this week. But for skincare, I have only tried the Tulasara Wedding masques that they sent. I didn’t expect to have such a great response to that eye product. It’s not inexpensive, but for the same size, it’s about $30 less than the PCASkin Eye Gel I’ve been using for a couple of years. I also have fallen in love with Aveda Hand Relief, the best winter hand cream I’ve ever used – I just made myself put it away for colder weather but it’s hard to give it up. LMK what you think about the Botanical Kinetics Intense Hydrating Soft Creme – that’s a new one to me!!

  16. Tracey Fintel says:

I look forward to hearing your review about the hair treatment/serum! I’m always on the lookout for a treatment that will prevent/heal the flyaways and breakage on the top of my head. I tried the intense hydrating soft cream and I think I’m kind of in love…it’s so soft and light. Initially thought it felt a tad greasy, but once it sank into
my skin, it felt amazing, soft and supple. It also smells amazing with the classic Aveda scent. You should definitely give it a try!

  17. Tracey Fintel says:

Just got on the Aveda site and discovered they introduced a Tulasara soft creme for daytime…gotta get a sample this week!

    1. When I go to Vidal Sassoon in Boston in about 10 days, I will follow your lead, Tracey, and stop into the Aveda store about two doors down from my hair appointment and check out both the Tulasara and the Botanical Kinetics day creams – I’m curious about the SPF and what they use for sunscreen (physical like zinc oxide/titanium dioxide I’m guessing) and see if I can get a sample of each one. Currently, I’m using Jan Marini Physical Sunscreen SPF 45 and I just got a tube of Coola Matte Sunscreen SPF 30 Cucumber Scent. I think finding a daytime moisturizer with SPF is like looking for the Holy Grail. I’d like to get samples of the two you suggested!

  18. Tracey Fintel says:

Neither one has sunscreen in it :(. But, you can buy an Aveda spf to layer on top.

    1. Oh boo. I’m kind of doing the layering thing now. I’ll still stop into Aveda to check them out next week!
