Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen SPF 70

With at least one more big beach weekend coming up (and more if you live in the warm parts of the world), here’s a quick review of yet another sunscreen that I picked up a couple of weeks ago: Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen SPF 70.

I have so many sunscreens. Why do I need another one, you ask? Because this one is a multitasking sunscreen and body lotion, that’s why!

I found that I was often lazy about putting sunscreen on my body when I went out for a jog or even to the beach. I bought Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen because it’s a body lotion and sunscreen in one. So much easier! I take a shower and put it on instead of my regular body lotion if I know I’m heading outdoors. It hydrates my skin and protects it at the same time. Done!

Although it says that you can use this on your face, I don’t. I have other even lighter weight  sunscreens or moisturizers with SPF specially created for the face. A couple of folks who reviewed the product on the Aveeno website said it stung their eyes. I bought it as a body lotion/sunscreen.

I must really like this stuff because I bought it less than 3 weeks ago, and I’ve only got about a quarter of the tube left. Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen SPF 70 comes in a 3 oz. tube. It has a slight floral-ish scent that isn’t objectionable. The lotion is white and medium weight, but it rubs in easily and isn’t sticky but leaves a light barrier on my skin. It’s oil-free and non-comedogenic. Like any sunscreen, it should be reapplied after 80 minutes or after going in the water. Broad spectrum, dermatologist recommended. I bought the SPF 70, but it also comes in SPF 50 and 30 if you don’t need as much coverage. The MSRP is $10.99. I bought mine at CVS but it’s widely available.

  2. Sounds like a nice sunscreen, but I prefer bigger sizes because we use a lot of body sunscreen in the house! 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. I know what you mean, Kristina! This wouldn’t last the weekend in a family household! The natural ingredients and the high spf make this a great family sunscreen, but it was the body lotion/hydration multitasking benefit that got me to buy this since it’s a bit pricey for the size. They may have larger sizes for this sunscreen, but I think it’s really a dry skin lotion/sunscreen for women with dry skin mostly.

  3. I absolutely LOVE Aveeno! It’s the only body lotion I use. I have this sunscreen too, but I don’t use it as much because it drys a bit chalky on my skin.

  4. Wow, you really have used a lot– this is quite a ringing endorsement, and that means I NEED IT! I love that it is an SPF 70! Excellent review, as always Allison!

    1. I’ll trade ya. It gets very depressing here in the fall once it starts getting cold and dark in October and the leaves are gone. And it sometimes snows in October.

    1. Hmmm, interesting, Marcia. Because you’ve brought up fragrance before, I did sniff this one. There is a faint scent that fades on application. But yes, fragrance-free options are always good for a skincare product.

  13. SPF is a must for me. I use SPF50 practically everyday and switch to 30 in the winter. My skin is very sensitive and SPF is something that protects me. I’m prone to redness and since using SPF everyday my skin has been better.
