Barielle Protect Plus Color with ProSina Nail Polish

For Spring 2016, Barielle came out with a new Signature Collection of nail polish with ProSina, a patented, highly specialized polypeptide that works with keratin to strengthen, condition, protect, and improve the health of the weak, thin or brittle nails. They selected shades from their original collection and, I believe, added some new ones too, and infused the polish with ProSina to create a 2-in-1 product: nail polish with added treatment ingredients.

I received two shades to try out:

  • Blossom: a pastel peach that I already own in the original formula that I reviewed here (love that shade!)
  • Edgy: a deep deep deep purple that looks just about black on my nails.

I’ve mentioned previously that my usually healthy nails dried out and broke during our trip to Arizona when I took a hiatus from biotin and we were in the dry desert environment. I’ve returned to my biotin regimen and to using Barielle Strengthening Cream (reviewed here). My nails are still short, but they’re beginning to grow, break less often and just feel stronger. The shades from the Barielle Signature Collection with ProSina, developed specifically for weak, thin and brittle nails, have certainly helped. My nails needs all the help they can get because I’ve been gardening like mad. Even wearing gloves, my nails are taking a beating.

I polished my nails with Barielle Signature Collection Blossom and Edgy last night (I also used Seche Basecoat, Barielle No Chip Speed Dry Topcoat and on my third finger I had to add a little bling with China Glaze Fairy Dust coz I can’t have a mani without Fairy Dust!).

Today I spent 3 hours digging in the garden, planting and weeding. I’m amazed that my nail polish didn’t chip at all. Wow. The new Signature Collection formula must be stronger too. Yay!

  1. The fact that the nail polish didn’t chip after your digging in the garden for 3 hours is very impressive! Btw, I’m not receiving your newsletter today, I thought you were not posting but thank goodness I hop over to check your blog. I rely on your newsletter for updates.

    1. Thank you, Shireen, for letting me know. I didn’t receive my email from Mailchimp this morning either, and I didn’t know if it was my email client or Mailchimp. I guess it was Mailchimp but since I have the free version, I can’t really complain. It has screwed up a couple of times lately, but it’s been generally pretty good for the past almost 2 years. Also, instead of showing a short excerpt, the excerpt has gotten longer and I tried to fix it by altering the code, but no luck. What do you use to deliver your email? And yes, this new version of Barielle’s polish is a good one!

      1. Mine is feedburner because it came with the template that I was using. So far so good but frankly I installed it and never even really looked at it ever since. Oops!

        1. That’s very interesting, Shireen. Over a year ago, Feedburner stopped being supported and many days it didn’t deliver my emails. I went on the forums and I was told it was being discontinued. That’s why I moved to Mailchimp. I just tried to figure out why my email today wasn’t delivered, but I ended up rescheduling it so it went out this afternoon. I started playing around with the template to try to figure out how to go back to a shorter excerpt but I just ended up screwing things up. I hope it works out tomorrow. The free version doesn’t come with support 🙁

  2. Pretty shades! I like that they wear so well. I love one shade I was sent, I just can’t with the other. lol

    1. Which shades did you get, Erika? Edgy on its own is not my shade. Next time I’ll try a topper with it and I think I’ll like it better.

  3. I’m always being asked about polishes that help strengthen nails and Barielle is going to be on my list for that. I wish it was more readily available since I love seeing polishes in person. That peach is really pretty.

    1. I know that Barielle is sold at CVS, but my local CVS seems to carry their treatment products more than the polishes. I googled where they’re sold, and just came up with online sources: barielle.com, dermstore.com, amazon etc. I think it’s a shame. I agree that I like to see the colors in person. Blossom really is a lovely shade. I loved the original that I reviewed a couple of months ago, and the new strengthening version is just as pretty. I’d love to see more of the line myself.

  4. That’s amazing! I need some major strength for my nails.

    1. Thank you, Rachel! I wasn’t so sure about the pairing but I wanted to show both shades. I think next time I’ll use a topper with Edgy.

  7. That is such a cute mani, Allison!

  9. I love vampy colors like that purple, but I absolutely love the coral with glitter! so cute. I need to try this line – I love Barielle, and my nails are pretty thin and peely.

    1. The purple is sooooooo deep that it looks black on my nails. Next time, I think I’ll use a topper on Edgy and see how that looks. Blossom is one of my favorite shades with or without the Fairy Dust 🙂

  10. Ooh, I love both shades! They are both worlds apart, but they look fantastic together! <3

  11. Blossom is so pretty on your skin tone. The ProSina formula sounds interesting. I am shocked you were gardening that long and didn’t have any chips or damage. Awesome!

It’s nice to know their polishes are pregnancy safe.

    1. Thanks, Kim! This wasn’t my best work, lol. But I wanted to show both shades and I was too lazy to do two manis. Next time I’ll try a topper on Edgy since I don’t usually wear such dark shades. I love the formula, and Blossom is one of my favorite spring/summer shades from Barielle

  14. Wow, I can’t believe that it held up from gardening for that long. My polish seems to chip so easily, guess I’ll have to try this brand out! Blossom is gorgeous!

    1. I guess my gardening gloves did a good job, Mimi! Blossom is really a pretty shade. I’ve got it in the regular and the new strengthening formula, and I love it 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  15. I enjoyed your nail blog post and esp your nail design!! I think every polish should endure a heavy chore test including gardening before claiming to be “chip free”!

    Ursula

    http://www.blueridgebeautyblogger.com

    1. Thank you, Ursula! I’m not sure this mani was my best or that I would typically pair these two shades, but I wanted to show both shades and I was too lazy to do two separate manis 😉 I don’t think this Barielle polish claims to be chip free, but it does claim to improve nail health/strength with continued use.

  16. Such beautiful shades! I really love both!
