Bath and Body Products from TreeHut: My Ulta Haul

TreeHut makes affordable body and bath products in a variety of fruity and tropical scents. Even though our winter hasn’t been bad till the last week or so, I felt the need for some fruity, tropical bath products to beat back the winter chill, ice and snow.

My experience with TreeHut has been with their body lotions. When I needed to reach the free delivery option from Ulta Beauty, I decided to branch out from TreeHuts lotions and try a couple of other products.

Foaming Gel Wash

When it comes to body wash, I usually stick to London’s Molton Brown and Amsterdam’s RITUALS, but why not experience a good old American body wash, especially when they have hydrating formulas as well as such great fragrances?

TreeHut has a family of hydrating body washes:

“Tree Hut’s new foaming gel washes give a luscious lather for a fun, bubbly shower experience. Made with a hydrating oil complex to help keep the skin’s microbiome feeling soft and refreshed.”

The variety of scents currently include: Pumpkin Spice, Ocean Glow, Moroccan Rose, Strawberry, Tropic Glow, Pineapple, Coco Colada, Watermelon, and Vitamin C. I was having a hard time choosing among Pineapple, Coco Colada, and Watermelon. I finally decided on Pineapple, and it was a good choice for me.

The pineapple scent smells just like a real fresh pineapple. It’s not overly sweet, but has that true pineapple scent. I love it. The scent is wonderful in the shower, creating a summery olfactory environment. The TreeHut website describes the scent as “long-lasting”, but I don’t find that the pineapple fragrance remains on my skin afterwards – which is fine with me.

The TreeHut “gel” is more like a liqui-gel as opposed to the thick gel of Molton Brown.

TreeHut Foaming Gel Wash needs to be used in conjunction with a pouf, loofah, washcloth, or sponge in order for it to create oodles of foaming lather. The nourishing lather is formulated with hydrating oil complex, antioxidant-rich avocado, kiwi and orange oils. I get out of the shower without dry skin, though I do follow up with body oil or body lotion.

Foaming Gel Wash is affordably priced at under $10 for a big 18 fl.oz. flip top plastic, recyclable bottle. During the holiday sale at Ulta, I think I got it for around $6.

TreeHut Foaming Gel Wash is alcohol-free, parabens-free, formaldehyde free. It is vegan and cruelty-free.

Ingredient List: Water, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Polysorbate 20, Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract, Polyglutamic Acid, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Persesa Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Phytate, Glycerin, Lauryl Lactate, Phenoxyethanol, Citric Acid, Fragrance, Yellow 5 (CI 19140), Blue 1 (CI 42090)

Moisturizing Shave Oil

After finishing up Redneck Beard Shave Oil recently, I decided to try TreeHut Moisturizing Shave Oil to see how it compares.

Like the Foaming Gel Wash, TreeHut Moisturizing Shave Oil comes in 6 scents: Vanilla, Birthday Cake, Moroccan Rose, Tropical Glow, Coconut Lime, and Watermelon. I was trying to choose a scent that would coordinate with Pineapple, so I chose Tropical Glow.

Frankly, I am not sure how to describe the Tropical Glow scent other than sweet, fruity, flower, and well, tropical. To be honest, I don’t like the Tropical Glow fragrance nearly as much as I like the Pineapple in the body wash. But no problem.

The Moisturizing Shave Oil is nothing like the Redneck Beard & Shave Oil or the Somerset Shave Oils that I have tried. First, TreeHut Moisturizing Shave Oil comes in a tall thin plastic pump bottle holding 7.7 fl. oz. rather than a small glass dropper bottle holding an ounce or less. The key difference is that TreeHut Moisturizing Shave Oil is much less viscous than the other oils I have tried that are more oriented to men’s shaving. In fact, the TreeHut Shave Oil doesn’t feel like oil at all, and the good news is that it doesn’t leave the shower oily and slippery. However, to me, there is a difference in performance. The men’s oil requires only a couple or a few drops of oil, whereas the TreeHut Shave Oil requires a good pump. Although my razor does run smoothly across my skin and I don’t feel in danger of getting a nick while using the TreeHut, it’s not nearly as smooth or “gliding” and the shave is not nearly as close as with the thicker, male-targeted oils. Unfortunately, that’s been disappointing. Not surprisingly, the more watery TreeHut Moisturizing Shave Oil is much less expensive at $10-13 for 7.7 fl. oz. than the pricier Redneck or Somerset Shave Oils that are about $20 per ounce.

The difference between the TreeHut Shave Oil and for example, the Redneck Beard & Shave Oil is that the below ingredient list for the TreeHut begins with Water and it ends with Alcohol, so the TreeHut Oil feels diluted. The Redneck ingredient list contains a moisturizer and a list of natural oils: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Mixed Tocopherols, Essential Oils Blend.

Ingredient List: WATER, POLYSORBATE 20, POLYQUATERNIUM-10, GLYCERETH-26, GLYCERIN, FRAGRANCE (PARFUM), PHENOXYETHANOL, HYDROXYACETOPHENONE, ALLANTOIN, SODIUM CHLORIDE, PISTACIA VERA (PISTACHIO) SEED OIL, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL, ARGANIA SPINOSA KERNEL OIL, THEOBROMA GRANDIFLORUM, (CUPUACU) SEED BUTTER, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, BENZYL SALICYLATE, BENZYL ALCOHOL, LIMONENE

Recently, I went to the TreeHut website to check out the Moisturizing Shave Oil, and a couple of consumers wrote in reviews asking if the Shave Oil formula had changed in the past 6 months or so. Not only was the bottle different, but they said the formula changed and became much more watery. Both were unlikely to repurchase.

While I will finish up the bottle of TreeHut Moisturizing Shave Oil, I will be unlikely to buy more of it. Just my preference. You may prefer the lighter, much less oily formula.

TreeHut Moisturizing Shave Oil is parabens-free, sulfate-free and formaldehyde-free. It’s vegan and cruelty-free.

TreeHut products are sold at Ulta Beauty, Target, Amazon, and other retail stores and online.

  1. I have tried a few of their products over the years, but not either of these. I am especially interested in the pineapple body wash, and it sounds as though it smells delicious. Like you, I love my Molton Brown and Rituals body washes, but this one sounds well worth trying. I haven’t used a shaving oil in a long time, and my main complaint has been the oil slick on the bottom of the shower– therefore it is great to learn that this one doesn’t do that. I wish that you loved the smell as much as the body wash, but it sounds like a great product for shaving nonetheless! Thanks for this wonderful review, Allison! I hadn’t thought about TreeHut in a while, and clearly I should revisit the brand!

    1. There are times when the scent of pineapple is just the thing for me to use in the shower! But the shaving oil doesn’t work as well as the men’s much more concentrated shaving oils I’ve used in the past
