Beauty Empties for April 2018

Going away for 10 days really cut in to the number of beauty products I finished up in April, but I’m already making up for it in May.

Importantly, I finished up a huge jar that was taking up too much room in my bathroom. Let’s see what I finished and what’s worth repurchasing.

April 2018 beauty products I finished up, neversaydiebeauty.com

  • EO Hand Soap, Peppermint & Tea Tree: Although the scent and key ingredients – peppermint and tea tree – were nice, there are other scents I like even more. Regardless, I liked this hand soap a lot. It produces the right amount of suds, is easy to rinse, the scent on my hands after using isn’t overwhelming, and the price is right. Repurchase? Yes, I did. After the failure of the lavender Mrs. Meyers Hand Soap that most likely was spoiled, I bought another EO Hand Soap, this time Meyer Lemon, and it’s great.
  • MoroccanOil Body Souffle: I bought this pricey body cream a while back when I was trying to qualify for one of the Barney’s beauty bags. I had tried a sample of it in a previous Barney’s bag, and I loved the strong floral but nutty scent. But once I bought this big jar (see my original review), I realized that it is completely over packaged, and it takes up waaaaaay too much space in my bathroom. Not only that, but the over packaging makes you think you’re getting more than the relatively small amount that’s really in the much smaller inner jar, boo! Also, the scent that I originally found so intriguing and pleasant became overwhelming and cloying. Plus, it was too expensive. Repurchase? No.

  • Lancome Miel-En-Mousse Foaming Cleansing Makeup Remover, sample size: I got this sample tube of Lancome’s version of a foaming melting balm makeup remover in a recent Sephora Play bag. It seems like every brand has one now, and I generally like them. I was eager to try this because the name has “miel” or honey in French in its name. The consistency was like a super thick honey. Unfortunately, I hated it. First, it was impossible to get out of the little tube (fortunately, the full size product comes in a pump.) Second, like many other Lancome products, it is overly fragranced, and I couldn’t stand the scent. Also, the balm burned my eyes, and I couldn’t use it to remove eye makeup. Glad it was just a sample and not a full-size product. Repurchase? Definitely not!
  • Vichy Liftactiv Retinol HA for Eyes: I bought this anti-aging eye cream a while ago at CVS because I was looking for a retinol eye cream. I’m not sure if I ever got around to reviewing it. It’s a relatively thick white cream that comes out of an unusual pump. It was a decent eye cream, but I didn’t experience any significant change to the contour of my eyes. Also as you may know, I actually prefer gels or gel-creams for my eye area. Repurchase? There was nothing wrong with this eye cream, but there are others that I prefer. Also, it looks like Vichy discontinued this particular eye cream. There have another Liftactiv eye cream for wrinkles in a tube that doesn’t have retinol in it.
  • essence Kiss Care Love Lip Balm: I love this super cheap lip balm from essence. I think it cost $1.98, and it was so hydrating. It came in a bunch of different flavors/scents. I believe it was developed to compete with Maybelline’s Baby Lips. Repurchase? Sadly, I think it has been discontinued because I haven’t seen it on the essence display at Ulta in ages.
  • Mirabella Lasting Lash Waterproof Mascara: This is the third or fourth tube of Mirabella Lasting Lash Mascara that I’ve used up. I like the plastic wand with the thin teeth that does a good job separating my lashes. This is the only waterproof mascara that I’ve ever liked because it’s easy to remove, it stays put, doesn’t flake or smudge. It’s a great mascara. Repurchase? Mirabella was recently sold to new owners. I checked the Mirabella website and Dermstore.com where I usually buy it, but I don’t see it. I’m guessing it’s discontinued as the new owners revamp the product line. 😥
  • La Perla “La Mia Perla” Eau de Parfum: I discovered this heavenly light, slightly powdery, slightly floral scent via Scentbird, the subscription fragrance program that I joined a few years ago. Although on Scentbird you can choose the scents that you want to receive, La Mia Perla was their “scent of the month” about a year ago, and I received a one month supply. I was shocked at how much I love it, especially since it’s so different from the big oriental scents that I typically gravitate to. For me, it’s a perfect daytime scent. Repurchase? I already bought another one month supply from Scentbird. I went to the De Bijendorf, the big department store in Amsterdam, looking for La Mia Perla since it’s impossible to find, or so I thought, in the U.S., and they didn’t have it. I was about to call the New York La Perla lingerie store to ask them if they could get me a bottle, but when I was searching for the phone number on the La Perla website, I discovered that I could buy it via the website. Done!

I think it’s interesting that three of the items I used up this month are discontinued. I guess it takes me a long time to finish stuff!

What did you use up in April? Do any of these products interest you?

    1. The MoroccanOil Body Souffle really offended me when I saw how overpackaged it was. It was like they were trying to make up for how little product there was for the money. Ugh.

  4. I don’t think I knew that Mirabella was on the Dermstore site but obviously I’m too late anyway. I used up my Venn Moisturizer until there wasn’t a teeny speck left. If I ever run out of moisturizer I’d buy that again.

    1. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to Mirabella under the new ownership. I must reread your review of Venn Moisturizer – it must have really impressed you!

  5. It is so satisfying to toss those big items that take up so much space. Way to go Allison!

  6. Too bad you didn’t like Lancome’s Miel en Mousse. I really want to try it! I don’t mind scents in rinse-off products like cleansers.

    1. Laure, you should try it! You often like Lancome, so it may suit you better than it did me. I have ultra-sensitive eyes, and I wasn’t able to use this to remove my eye makeup because it burned. Also, it was really hard to get it out of the tube, but if you buy the full size product, it’s a pump, and it should be much easier. I’ll be curious to hear how you like it if you do try it.

  7. I’m amazed with your empties, you finish so much a lot!

    1. Thank you, thank you!

  8. I am curious to try la Mia Perla now, since you and I share similar taste in perfume.

    1. If you’re a Scentbird subscriber, I think it’s worth the $15 to try it. I think it’s a lovely spring scent. It’s different than my usual choices, but I really do love it.

  9. Well done on emptying them. I love the feeling when I finish something. 😀

  10. You used up some great products!
