BECCA Glow Gloss, shade Snapdragon

You probably know that I’m a big fan of lipgloss. I love the shine. And I especially love how it helps keep my dry lips hydrated. When it comes to lipgloss, I strongly prefer the opaque glosses.

My favorite glosses are from Anastasia Beverly Hills and Mirabella. I love them because I don’t have to wear a regular lipstick underneath the gloss. They are truly opaque.

When I was shopping at Sephora during the recent VIB sale event, browsing got the better of me, and I found myself drawn to the BECCA Glow Glosses. I thought I wanted a pink gloss for spring since I have lots of mauve and red glosses already. I swatched Snapdragon on my arm, and the rosy pink shade with subtle gold shimmer seemed perfect.

On my arm, Snapdragon looked suitably opaque. I bought it.

When I got it home, I tried it on my lips. The first thing I noticed was a slightly minty scent. It never occurred to me to check the ingredient list before I purchased. In the store, I didn’t notice that it is supposed to be a plumping lip gloss. The list on the back of the box is in such tiny reverse type that I could never have read it anyway. Sure enough, mentha piperita oil or peppermint oil, is there about 1/3 of the way down the list.

Usually my lips can’t handle peppermint oil, but there are so many other ingredients in this gloss that it doesn’t seem to irritate my lips, whew. Does it plump? Maybe subtlety, but nothing that anyone would notice.

The shade is very pretty, but it isn’t quite as opaque on my lips as it appears to be when I swatched it on my arm, although it’s still a decent amount of color. I would call it translucent. Thus, I prefer it over a regular lipstick like the mauve shade Strapless from Estee Lauder Pure Color Love Lipstick

or lip pencil like the pink shade, Media, from Illamasqua

so I get the deeper pigmentation that I’m looking for.

I was rather surprised about the translucency because on the BECCA website it is described as having: “the shine of a gloss, pigment of a liquid lipstick and nourishing benefits of a balm.”I don’t think it has quite the pigment of a liquid lipstick, nor does it last nearly as long as a liquid lipstick. It comes off with food or drink, thus another benefit of layering it over pencil or lipstick.

One of the pluses is that it isn’t overly sticky (it is a gloss, after all). I don’t think I’ve worn it on a very windy day yet, but so far, my hair doesn’t stick to it.

All in all, it’s still a very pretty lipgloss, and I will keep it. Wouldn’t you know it’s now selling for $11, half off from the regular $22. I think $11 is the right price for it.

The tube with a rounded bottom and angled doe-foot applicator contains 0.5 g.

It comes in 10 shades representing a good range of shades from nudes/neutrals, berries and coral but surprisingly no red.

At $11 on the BECCA website, check out BECCA Glow Gloss if you’re a fan of lipgloss!

That looks absolutely gorgeous over the Media pencil. I think that’s your pairing, right there. Not that the other doesn’t look good, because it’s pretty and all, but *hint hint* the pencil combo is BEAUTIFUL!

My hair has a supernatural ability for adhering to lipgloss, no matter how non-sticky it’s touted to be. I’ve given up and only wear glossy stuff when my hair is tightly confined. Otherwise I run the risk of looking like Cousin Itt. O.o

    1. Thank you, Rachel! I agree with you that pairing Snapdragon with the Illamasqua Media pencil is the way to go with this shade. Wearing it over Estee Lauder Strapless takes away the pink, and it just looks mauve. Alone, there’s not quite enough oomph. I hear you about the hair in the gloss issue, and I completely understand your decision to mostly forgo gloss unless your hair is constrained 🙂

  2. It is a very pretty lip gloss, and it looks absolutely beautiful on you! It’s perfectly paired wth your Illamasqua Lip Pencil! I’m glad that the peppermint wasn’t too much for you, Allison!

  3. I really like this shade, especially with how you paired it with the pencil. It looks great on you!

    1. Thank you xoxo

I go thru phases of lipstick preference and right now, I’m with you on glosses! Easy to wear and the little shine adds plump to lips!

    1. It’s so nice to wear glosses for a change!

  5. It is a pretty gloss!! As long as it’s not too sticky and affordable, it’s good enough for me! I didn’t know about glosses putting peppermint oil in them, that is something I will have to watch for.

  6. I wear alot of the glosses from that set on the regular! I usually dont like overly menthol-y stuff on my lips but they dont bother mine either!

    1. I don’t think there’s enough peppermint oil in the BECCA Glow Gloss formula to actually do any plumping which is fine with me! Are any of the shades in your set more opaque than Snapdragon? If so, I may pick up another one during the half price sale

Great lip gloss pick Allison. I think it’s fabulous in all 3 pictures. As others have commented the gloss over the Illamasqua lip pencil is amazing on you. You look great Allison. Aside from your natural beauty have you been using any special skincare products? You are absolutely glowing!!! xo

    1. Thank you, Laura xoxo Hmmm, I’m wondering if I’ve been doing anything different lately? I’ve been using oils more often, so maybe that’s it. I agree, it’s best over the lip pencil.

  8. Laura says:

Cute color! I haven’t done lipgloss in forever, I’ve been doing bullet lipsticks lately, maybe I need to switch it up.

    1. I’m a fan of bullet lipsticks too, but I have such dry lips that I always have a few glosses.

  9. I like it best over the lipliner too. I always have a gloss in my purse since I don’t need to worry out it melting like I do with a lipstick. Too bad you missed their sale – it seems like that always happens. I won’t buy UD palettes full price because eventually they put their palettes on sale.

    1. Carrying lipgloss instead of lipstick in the summer is a great idea! Though it’s still so cold here, I wonder if I will ever have to worry about that? Cindy and Claudia both have the entire collection so I will ask them if any of the other shades are more opaque than Snapdragon, and if so, I may pick up another while they’re on sale.

  10. I have all the shades and Snapdragon is one of my favs!

    1. Cindy, are any of the other shades in the collection more opaque than Snapdragon? Just curious especially since they’re on sale now.

As soon as you mentioned minty my head went to “oh no!” as I know you can’t do mint most of the time. Glad to hear it is ok for you even if it isn’t as pigmented on the lips as you had hoped for.

    1. Thanks, Jen! I was happy that the peppermint oil wasn’t a lot and it worked out. I already returned a fragrance that I bought, so I didn’t want to have to return the gloss too.

    1. The BECCA lipgloss is actually fine if you’re not looking for a completely opaque gloss.

  17. It looks very pretty on you! I haven’t tried any of Becca’s glosses but from your review I’d agree, $11 is probably about the right price for this.
