Belated Birthday Lunch Look of the Day

It’s been forever since I did a look of the day post. And today’s Friday, so why not?

Yesterday, my friends Kim and Laura took me out to lunch to celebrate my birthday. Yes, the actual day was 2 weeks ago, but we’re not sticklers for dates 😉 Though the day was kind of dreary (April has been the rainiest April in Boston ever, and yes, it looks like May could be the same), we went to a fun breakfast and lunch place, Sugar Magnolias, in Gloucester. The food was yummy. I had the Cobb salad.

Even though Sugar Magnolias is very casual, I decided to wash my hair, put on makeup and wear a nice spring sweater. Made me feel more cheery.

I started out planning to wear IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Foundation that I bought for half price during Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty Sale in March/April. The Bye Bye Lines Foundation sale was online only, so I had to choose the shade sight unseen. Boo. I chose Light because it said Fair Light in parentheses next to the shade name, and Fair Light in another IT foundation is a great match for me. But by and large, I have a tough time getting a good match with IT Cosmetics foundations. Fair is usually too light, and Light is usually slightly too dark but more importantly, it’s often too yellow. Sure enough, Bye Bye Lines Foundation shade Light is too yellow for my cool-toned, pink leaning skin. I think in the summer when I get a slight tan, it’ll be a better match. I had been thinking about reviewing the foundation, so I thought I’d wear it again yesterday. Since it was a dark day, I went over to the window to apply my foundation. I put some of Bye Bye Lines on the left side of my face, and it looked so yellow next to my skin that I couldn’t stand it. I didn’t have time to take it off and start all over again, so I got out my favorite foundation and applied it right over the Bye Bye Lines.

My favorite foundation is Stellar Limitless Foundation (I reviewed it last year on the blog here).

Stellar is an interesting and unique foundation line. It claims to cater to medium skin tones by creating shades that emphasize under tones: pink, red, olive, yellow, golden, peach, neutral etc. But the 35 shades do include a few fair/light shades and a few dark/deep shades, each with different under tones. The majority of shades are versions of medium. The brand was started by a woman of Canadian-Indian (from India) background who thought there were not enough options for the vast majority of those in the middle but whose skin tones can vary widely. This terrific foundation needs more love! It’s sold at Sephora!

So I wear shade S02, described on the Stellar website as “very fair with pink under tones”. My skin is not “very fair” and I don’t consider this shade to be “very fair”; it is not porcelain. Regardless of the descriptor, it’s a great match for me. The foundation is lightweight, smooth, velvety, long wearing, and it provides just about full coverage. And it did a great job covering up the Bye Bye Lines without weighing down my skin. Yay.

I’ve been meaning to review the ColourPop Fame Eyeshadow Palette for months, but I’ve been too lazy to do the swatches. But I still should do it. I love this palette and reach for it often. It’s a neutral palette with mattes, satins and subtle shimmers. No fallout. So easy to wear. I love it.

Yesterday, I wore three of the shades, light colors all:

  • Show Boat, a pale pink satin on the inner lid
  • Debutante, a lilac/mauvey shimmer on the middle lid
  • Clubhouse, a milk chocolate matte in the crease and V.

So that’s it. It was a good day in spite of the weather!

I can confirm that you looked beautiful! I loved your shimmery eye look, and I thought it looked much cooler/bluer on your eyelid than it looks in the pan or on your fingertip. Colorpop shadows seem to do that a lot… Great look!

    1. Thank you, Kim! And thanks again for lunch. I really am having a hard time deciding what color Debutante is. I thought it looked purple on my eyes, and you thought blue! Actually, it is a grey/purple shimmer, and grey tends to make blue eyes bluer so maybe that’s why it looked blue. The photo on my fingertips was taken indoors under yellow lights unfortunately coz I waited too late to write the post. I will make myself swatch this palette soon and post them because it really is a good one for neutral lovers who want a mix of finishes.

What a wonderful look. So much fun going out to lunch with girlfriends (or sisters or daughters and granddaughters). I just tossed some Colorpop Eyeshadow singles. Just never liked the way they looked on me. Love my IT eyeshadow palette that was gifted to me. The colors are perfect for me in it. Enjoy your weekend.
