Benefit Fan Fest Mascara

When I went to bring in my iMac to the Apple Store 3 weeks ago, I went into Sephora before leaving the mall. Not surprisingly, I picked up a little something new: Benefit Fan Fest Fanning & Volumizing Mascara. I bought the mini size that I swear was $13 (but now Sephora, Nordstrom and Benefit.com have it online for $16!). By and large, I don’t buy full size mascaras because I can’t use them up in 3 months. Plus I hadn’t tried this new version of Benefit mascaras.

Years ago, I fell in love with a fanning mascara from L’Oreal (Voluminous Butterfly Intenza), but it was discontinued probably 10 years ago, and I haven’t found one I liked as much. Since I like Benefit’s mascaras and this is a fanning mascara, I thought it was worth trying the mini.

Weirdly, I am able to apply my mascara better to my left eye than my right. I think it’s odd because I’m left handed. Maybe I am totally left sided!

The wand of Benefit Fan Fest is curved. There seems to be a little hook or something at the end of the curve that’s thicker than the bristles, but so far, it doesn’t seem to hurt or help.

My eyes are downturned a little more than most of the curved wands, so using a curved wand doesn’t always help me reach the outer lashes as much as I would have hoped. Somehow the curve on the old L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Intenza wasn’t curved as much but it was curved on both sides, and it was easier and more effective for me to use.

That said, Benefit Fan Fest Mascara isn’t difficult for me to use. Although I usually go for a lengthening mascara rather than a volumizing one, the formula is quite good and my lashes do look thicker than using my regular lengthening mascaras. Plus, my lashes are quite long from using Scorolash since February (I recommend Scorolash, a hormone-free lash growth enhancer).

I wish I were better at taking pix of my lashes, but here you go:

My assessment of Benefit Fan Fest Fanning & Volumizing Mascara is that it is fine. In fact, Ipsy was having their end of summer sale, and they were selling 2 mini tubes of Benefit Fan Fest for $5. I couldn’t pass that up! So I’ll be using Benefit Fan Fest for the next several months. You should check out the Ipsy summer sale. Definitely worth it, and you may not need to be a subscriber.
