Last year, I wrote about Bloom Minerals Shielding Hand Cream and Foot Cream (reviewed here). Both products were among my favorites for 2017. I used the foot cream all winter, and my feet never felt crusty and dry. In fact, it’s still on my night table to keep my feet in good shape for sandal season. Good stuff!

Bloom Minerals, a brand that features Dead Sea minerals and other natural ingredients, sent me three more products to try out. I’ve had good results using them, and I want to introduce them to you.

Bloom Minerals Hydrating Almond Scrub

This was the product that I was dying to try from Bloom Minerals when I perused their website some months ago. When I saw “almond”, I was thinking almond scent. When I saw “scrub”, I thought body scrub. Well, I was wrong on both counts, but I ended up loving the facial skincare product for its own virtues!

First, Hydrating Almond Scrub is a facial skincare product, not a body scrub like I thought. In some ways, it’s too bad because when I initially used it as a body scrub 🙄 it was fabulous because it doesn’t leave a greasy mess on the bathtub floor. But that’s also something that’s a positive when I use it correctly on my face. No greasiness left behind, just hydrated smoothness.

Second, Hydrating Almond Scrub is fragrance-free! The almond is not the scent, it’s the grit that makes this fluffy cream an exfoliating scrub. Fortunately, the almond shells are ground fine so that they aren’t irritating. I don’t really have enlarged or congested pores, but I imagine that this scrub would be a wonderful, yet gentle antidote.

I use almond scrub a couple of times a week. In fact, I just got in from gardening, and I intend to use Hydrating Almond Scrub to clean off the dirt and leave my face clean and hydrated.

Following are the key ingredients in the scrub and descriptions of what they are and their benefits via Bloom Minerals.

  • Glycine Soja (soy) contains significant amounts of all the essential amino acids and is a good source of protein. It is derived from soybean amino acids and is rich in protein, minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin E.
  • Almond Shell granules create a very fine grit to manually exfoliate the skins surface of dead skin cells, delivering clear and radiantly smooth skin.
  • Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salts) provides the highest concentration of  key minerals and nutrients providing optimal hydration, skin nutrition and delivering anti-aging results.

Bloom Minerals Hydrating Almond Scrub‘s plastic tube contains 100 ml/3.4 fl. oz. and is priced at $29.95.

Bloom Minerals Purifying Mud Mask

When I first received Purifying Mud Mask, I approached it with some trepidation because my skin is so dry. On the rare occasions that I use clay masks, my skin often feels drier afterwards. But Bloom Minerals Purifying Mud Mask is not a drying clay mask. It’s a Dead Sea minerals mud mask that is nicely suited for my dry skin type.

I actually looked up the difference between mud and clay when used as facial skincare ingredients. I visited a website called Leaf, and they report that clay is drying and recommended for oily or acne-prone skin, while mud is hydrating. Yes! They go further: “Mud masks are known to improve blood circulation under the skin, cleanse skin of dirt and impurities, moisturize and refresh tired skin and make the skin appear brighter, softer and clearer. In addition to the cleansing, moisturizing and upkeep of the skin, mud masks also serve to repair skin tissue, which improves the skin’s natural elasticity, making it appear younger.”

Which ingredients does Purifying Mud Mask contain?

  • Dead Sea Black Mud provides the highest concentration of key minerals and nutrients providing optimal hydration & skin nutrition while drawing out impurities and excess sebum from the skin.
  • Aloe Vera Extract with high concentrations of Vitamin C & E provide hydration, while it’s natural anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory benefits work to kill bacteria and sooth the skin.
  • Honey is a multifunction ingredient that is full of antioxidants to reduce the effects of aging, a natural anti-microbial, boosts radiance and clarifies the skin by pulling impurities from pores.

With aloe vera extract and honey in addition to Dead Sea mud, no wonder I have no problems using Purifying Mud Mask.

I apply the greenish-brown mud mask, and leave it on for about 20 minutes. It doesn’t dry to cracking the way a clay mask does. I can still move my face, lol! Here’s an attractive photo of me wearing the mud mask when it’s about halfway to dry. I should have smiled so that you could see that there’s no cracking.

Next, I remove it with tepid water, and voilà, my face is clean but not tight or dry. Unlike a clay mask that I can use about once every two weeks or so, I can use Bloom Minerals Purifying Mud Mask a couple of times a week if I’m so inclined.

Nevertheless, Bloom Minerals suggests that Purifying Mud Mask not be used at the same time as Hydrating Almond Scrub. They can be used in tandem, alternating nights etc. but not together.

Bloom Minerals Purifying Mud Mask  contains 100 ml/3.4 fl. oz. and is priced at $34.95. In addition to being sold on the Bloom Minerals website, the Purifying Mud Mask, along with Purifying Dead Sea Mud Soap, are sold on The Grommet, an online retailer for very cool products.

Bloom Minerals Shielding Body Lotion

Although I usually reach for body butter for my super dry skin, I was delighted to discover that fragrance-free Shielding Body Lotion makes my skin feel soft, smooth and nourished with no greasiness whatsoever. The “lotion” is really a fluffy cream that comes out of a tube and feels lightweight as I rub it in.

It leaves behind no white cast, it sinks into my skin within seconds. This is the body lotion that I use when I’m in a hurry, when I’m wearing perfume, or truth be told, just about any time because it works!

In addition to adding moisture via the following key ingredients (description by Bloom Minerals):

  • Glycine Soja (soy) contains significant amounts of all the essential amino acids and is a good source of protein. It is derived from soybean amino acids and is rich in protein, minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin E.
  • Aloe Vera with high concentrations of Vitamin C & E provide hydration, while it’s natural anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory benefits work to kill bacteria and sooth the skin.
  • Maris Sal (Dead Sea Salts) provides the highest concentration of  key minerals and nutrients providing optimal hydration, skin nutrition and delivering anti-aging results,

the lotion also contains glycerin (Glyceryl Stearate), a lubricant derived from palm kernel, that penetrates the skin and slows the loss of moisture by forming a barrier on the skin’s surface. The moisture from Shielding Body Lotion lasts all day.

I love this lotion. It’s perfect for summer. In fact, I wish Bloom Minerals Shielding Body Lotion came in a TSA friendly travel size in addition to the regular size tube because this is the body lotion I’d like to take with me on trips this summer. The 5 fl. oz. tube is priced at $19.95.

Bloom Mineral skincare products are cruelty-free as well as free of parabens, petroleum-derived and GMO-derived ingredients. The products all contain Dead Sea minerals that have been proven to treat or prevent acne, psoriasis and rheumatism. Using Dead Sea minerals regularly can increase the health of skin by increasing its vitality, elasticity, clarity, and flexibility. Check out Bloom Minerals complete product line on their website. Bloom Minerals products are also available on The Grommet, an online retailer with the coolest products.

  19. Petroleum jelly is actually recommended by dermatologists for people with issues like ezcema and really dry skin. It can be very healing, but I wouldn’t use it every day. As long as the person is washing their face thoroughly, morning and night, it shouldn’t clog their pores. It really helps with my dry lips, during all seasons, and keeps my hands smooth.

    1. You are correct that dermatologists do recommend petroleum jelly for those with dry skin and ezcema. But some people who tend toward clogged pores buy skincare products without always checking the ingredients, so they could make a mistake by using a petroleum product every day.
