My First Mini-Haul from Darling Girl Cosmetics

Well, calling it a haul is an exaggeration, but this was my first little shopping spree at Darling Girl Cosmetics, a cruelty-free indie brand that appears to specialize in duochrome, color shifting and glittery eye, face and lip makeup, some of which is vegan.

I Bought This  Informational Link

Courtney from Phyrra.net has been featuring Darling Girl makeup for ages, and the other night a woman posted a photo of a lipgloss she had purchased in Phyrra’s Facebook group, and I could resist no longer. Luckily, Darling Girl is very affordable.

I bought the lipgloss, two small size loose pigments for eyes, and I received a small packet of another loose pigment. I don’t usually go in for loose pigments, but so far, I’ve found these fairly easy to work with, and so far, I’ve been applying them dry over primer. There’s not a lot of fallout, but there is some. It makes sense to do my eyes before my foundation with these though when I did it the other way around, it was still OK.

They arrived in inexpensive, minimalist packaging befitting their indie status and price point. You can purchase the powder eyeshadows in full size (3/4 tsp) for $7, petit size (1/4 tsp) $3.25 or in tiny sample packets that are enough for one or two usage occasions. They also have cream to powder shadows that I will try next time, though sometimes that type of shadow is too drying for my dry lids.

Here’s what I bought.

Darling Girl Balm Gloss 3D, shade Leeloo

The Balm Gloss 3D comes in an injector pen plastic applicator with a brush at the tip. I happen to like brush applicators so I thought this was great. The only issue is I have no idea how much product is in the injector pen because the label covers up how much is in there. I’ll be able to see when it gets down to almost empty, however, because that part of the tube is visible.

The shade I chose is gorgeous, IMHO. It’s an orange-brown gloss with a hot pink shift and a bit of tiny pink glitter. It reads copper on the lips or skin. It provides translucent but definitely pigmented color that can be worn on its own or over another lipstick. Here it is on its own.

I am wearing Leeloo in this photo over Jesse’s Girl Matte Lip Color, shade Angelic.

It has a lot of slip initially, and after a while it dries down. It’s comfortable to wear. It isn’t particularly hydrating like some other glosses can be, but it certainly isn’t drying. It isn’t sticky at all, and there’s no scent. I love it. I wish I could get a regular lipstick in this shade as well.

$6 for 3ml

Shade Frolic

Frolic is an icy white/lavender with an aqua shift. It doesn’t have any glitter. I applied it dry over primer by patting it on. The aqua shift really came through especially in the middle of my lid. I wore it with a teal eyeliner. For the more adventurous than I, it could be used in the inner corner (especially for blue or green eyes), under the brow or even as highlighter if you’re really adventurous. I couldn’t find Frolic on the website today, so I’m wondering if it has been discontinued. Hmm.

Shade Brocade

Oh, Brocade, be still my heart! Brocade is a grape shade with a lovely copper metallic shift. They describe it as: “Violet base with strong metallic gold overlay.” Pure amazing!

Brocade was easier to pat on dry than Frolic. I’d like to try it wet or with an epoxy one of these days.

Ingredients: Manganese Violet, Mica, Carnauba Wax, Bronze Powder and Silica. Vegan

Shade We Only Have It Iced

We Only Have It Iced is the sample packet shade I received. It appears to be a raisin color with turquoise and gold finely milled glitter that shouldn’t make me look like a disco ball because it’s discreet. It reads as a medium raisin-brown with a slight aqua shift. They describe it as: “Taupe-brown base with icy blue sheen and silver and gold iridescence.” It’s stunning, and getting it was a wonderful surprise.

Ingredients: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, Tin Oxide, Chromium Oxide, Manganese Violet, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Carnauba Wax.

Here are the swatches applied over primer.

So what do you think about these shades? Would you wear shifting shades like these?

Darling Girl is fun, and very inexpensive so I love it. Yes, We Only Have It Iced is lovely and not overly sparkly 🙂 Brocade is stunning because it has a color shift but no glitter. I’ll bet they have a browner version

    1. Thank you, Marcia. I agree that the gloss, Leeloo, definitely is my kind of shade. I wish they made these in regular eye shadow, but I may be them with a setting spray on the brush and see if that makes application easier/quicker.

  9. Very affordable indeeed, and yes I would wear those

    1. I strongly recommend Brocade. It would look fabulous on you!

    1. And they are quite easy to use. Probably because it is white, Frolic looked a bit patchy on, but it could just be my lack of true skills when it comes to loose pigments.

  12. Brocade looks lovely!
