butterLONDON Shadow Clutch: A Customizable Eyeshadow Palette

As the gifting and wish list season is getting to be in full swing, I want to make sure you don’t overlook  the new 6 pan customizable neutral eyeshadow palette from butterLONDON, the ShadowClutch. Perfect for travel or even keeping in your bag everyday, the super cool bit about it is that you can swap out the shades that come with the palette for shades sold separately in Wardrobe Duos so you can mix things up.

The butterLONDON ShadowClutch, a heavy black plastic embossed case with a large mirror and dual-ended decent quality travel size brush, is available in two neutral shade families: Natural Charm, warm neutrals, and Pretty Proper, cool neutrals.

Importantly, butterLONDON Shadows are primer-infused, oil-absorbing, and skin balancing so they are great for all skin types.

Shades

I received Natural Charm, and even though I’m technically cool-toned, the warm tones look good on a redhead. The 6 shades in my clutch come in a range of finishes: matte, satin, shimmer.

I find the shades soft, buttery and easy to blend. The two lightest matte shades, Linen and Camel, kick up just a little dust in the pan, but once they’re on the brush, they’re fine. I wear the butterLONDON shadows over Urban Decay Anti-aging Eye Primer, and they last without creasing till I remove them.

Next, there are 4 different Wardrobe Duos that can be purchased separately. I received Fancy Flutter with Feather, a light rose gold, and Plume, a fabulous red/teal duochrome, and Moody Blues with Sequins, silvery ice blue, and Sapphire, deep cobalt. The two other options are Sassy Pants, purple/lavender, and Up All Night that looks like it has an opal and a black shade.

Here are the swatches over eye primer: Linen, Camel, Citrine, Quartz, Camo, Leather, Feather, Plume, Sequins, Sapphire. They all applied smoothly in the swatches except Leather, the deep brown, that appears patchy. But when I apply it as an accent shade on my eyes, it applies perfectly. Also, Linen at the very top is a perfect match for my skin tone so it doesn’t show up in the swatches. The four bottom swatches are the Wardrobe Duos.

I’ve been slow to post my review because I hadn’t gotten my swatches together. In fact, I’ve owned this palette for quite a while, and I love it! I find that if I go away for a weekend, this is the palette I take because I can create a range of looks from daytime to more dramatic. When I’m at home, I seem to reach for this palette most often for the same reasons. And it’s just so easy to work with. Importantly, the shades are subtle and appropriate for women of all ages!  I used to wear only matte shadows, but these satins and shimmers are not glittery, just gorgeous with subtle shine.

Customizing

The palette is quite easy to customize once you figure out where to lift: on the sides. Just lift the guard rail and slide the pans in and out. After I did it once, it was easy peasy.

    1. The Shadow Clutch, the Wink eyeliner pencils and the fabulous lip crayons are my favorites. They’ve done such a great job with their makeup line. I love butterLONDON! This shadow palette is a great mix of neutrals (although the red/turquoise duochrome is amazing!) and the mix of finishes is perfect for both day and night looks. Love this palette!

  2. This is an amazing gift idea, and what a great deal too! I love your swatches!

      1. I wish we did, too, Helen! I am feeling somewhat better but I am not totally healed which is rather disconcerting. So I am staying on a restricted diet till I feel more like myself. I really could use some good chicken soup with rice or noodles. The canned stuff has been ugh!

        1. I’m so sorry to hear that you still aren’t feeling like yourself, but at least you are slowly getting better rather than getting worse! Hopefully Jeff can prepare something yummy for you to eat if you don’t have the energy to do much of anything. <3

    1. You should, Judy! You could even purchase the Fancy Flutter Wardrobe Duo on its own. Plume, the red/turquoise, duochrome is stunning and Feather, the rose gold is beautiful too

    1. It would be perfect for your long haul trip, Laura! And the shades would look beautiful on you. The Wardrobe Duo with the red/aqua duochrome is beyond ah-maaaz-ing!

  7. I was really impressed with these eyeshadows! I went and bought the Posh one, too. I wish I had waited, though, because it was on sale this last week at Ulta for a great price!

    1. Oh, no! Don’t you hate when that happens! But I’ll bet you’re enjoying it. I’d like to pick up the Duo with the purples.

  8. I love how customisable this is! Very handy for travelling. This year’s Estee Lauder Holiday release is similar, but there are quite a lot of shadows and you can only customise 10 at once, so that’s bulky anyway.

    1. The butterLONDON palette really is the perfect size for travel or just for keeping in my purse or tote bag. I’m taking it with me for Thanksgiving. I love the shades too

  9. Rachel R. says:

That’s really neat that you can buy duos and then customize your palette. The shadows have impressive pigmentation. I haven’t tried BL’s shadows. I have a couple of their eyeliners and cream blushes, and I like the quality a lot.

    1. I think butterLONDON has done a great job with their relatively new makeup line, Rachel. I’d love to try one of the cream blushes since creams are my favorites. The palette is really fun to play with, and the red/aqua duochrome shadow from the Fancy Flutter Duo is gorgeous!

  10. Natalie Brown says:

These shadows are really pretty and I love the concept. Although, I have so many eye shadow palettes (!!) that, unless a palette contains really colorful or different shades, I pass. I’m glad they introduced you to satins and shimmers you like!

    1. I hear ya, Natalie. I typically do the same thing (though on 12/8 I’m going to buy the Too Faced heart-shaped pan shadow palette even tho’ I must have all those shades)! 😉 But this palette seems to have upstaged my similar ones. It’s just so handy to use and the shades are great to apply. The duochrome Feather is a really fun change of pace.

  11. THese eyeshadows are seriously so nice.

  14. What, Butter London now makes eye shadows?!! And the palette is customizable?!! SIGN ME UP. I do wish that the palette came empty and you could customize it 100%. Ah well.

    1. Yes! And great eyeliners and mascara and fabulous lip crayons, too!! Their new-ish makeup line really is terrific. I like everything I’ve tried. I hear ya about totally customizing but from a retailing standpoint this is easier for them. But it is fun to swap out the shades I don’t wear as much for the ones I do!

  15. As much as I’m enjoying the Shadow Clutch, it’s the duos that I really love. Those shadows are what makes the biggest difference. I’ve switched mine around so I have 3 of the original shades and 3 from the duos.
