Our rustic, old school beach club finally put in a hot water shower in the women’s locker room about 5 years ago, I think. It was a long time coming. But since I was a kid coming to the beach club, there were no indoor showers.

Bass Rocks Beach Club

The club has been around since the beginning of the 20th century. In fact, when I was looking for a photo of the building, I had a hard time finding one because everyone takes their photos looking out toward the ocean. But while searching for pix, I came upon some old photos from the original Bass Rocks Bath House, and I realized that much of the back of the structure had been removed, retaining only the stone front and the tower that’s not used. I also learned that the Ohlmsted Brothers (Frederick Law Ohlmsted who designed New York’s Central Park, Boston’s Emerald Necklace, The Biltmore Estate grounds in Asheville NC etc.) may have done the original landscaping. I found the photos they took of the site before they started the project, along with the job number that they assigned to the project. Oh well, enough with the history that’s interesting to me, but maybe not to you.

When I went to take my first shower of the season at BRBC a couple of weeks ago after an afternoon at the beach, I discovered that though I brought my personal care items with me, I must have used up my shower gel at the end of last season. No one had left behind any body wash that I could borrow, so I ended up showering using hair conditioner. I had soft skin, but I can’t say it was the most effective way to get clean.

At my next trip to CVS with Extrabucks in hand, I decided to look for a new shower gel or body wash to bring to the club. I started out looking for a body wash from EO Essential Oils, but it looks like CVS no longer carries that brand. Boo. Then I saw Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie Softening Body Wash. Almond cookie, yes please! I opened it and took a sniff. Yum. The scent reminds me of Jergen’s Original Lotion cherry almond scent that I always love. I bought it.

BTW, here’s how the almond cookie scent came about: “The fragrance Almond Cookie was born on a Sunday afternoon when my husband brought home an almond cookie just for me, just because. Notes of Marzipan, Tonka Bean and Warm Vanilla perfectly capture the feeling of knowing that you’re loved.” —Lisa Price, Carol’s Daughter Founder

Frankly, I buy body wash or shower gel primarily for two benefits: a wonderful scent and moisturizing. Often I get clean with bar soap first, and then do a second cleansing with body wash that also hydrates. Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie Softening Body Wash is perfect for both scent and moisturizing. It hydrates with almond oil and other ingredients. The vanilla-colored cream is indeed quite moisturizing. The almond scent smells lovely in the shower, but it doesn’t linger on my skin and interfere with any fragrance I want to wear later.

I sometimes use a pouf to create lather, and sometimes I just put some on my hands and apply it. I haven’t been using a pouf lately, so it doesn’t create a ton of lather with my hands alone but it’s enough for me.

Carol’s Daughter products have no sulfate, parabens, petroleum-based ingredients, or artificial colors. Although the Carol’s Daughter brand was purchased by L’Oreal, it is a cruelty-free brand: it does not test on animals anywhere in the world, and it is not sold in places where animal testing is required by law, e.g. China.

I like Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie Softening Body Wash a lot. Turns out it’s part of an Almond Cookie collection with bar soap, body lotion, shea souffle, a different Coco Creamy Body Wash (the Softening Body Wash is pretty creamy already!), hand cream, body butter, cleansing gel, and a gift set of goodies. Wow! I think I’ll add the body lotion and maybe hand cream to the mix for when I want to prolong the almond scent.

Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie Softening Body Wash comes in a plastic bottle and contains 12 oz. It’s priced around $10, but with all the CVS discounts, I paid around $6. It looks like HSN and the Carols Daughter website carry the whole collection. It’s also at Walmart, Target, Sally Beauty and other retailers.

    1. My first Carols Daughter product was shampoo that I bought at CVS a couple of months ago, so I didn’t know that CD wasn’t at drugstores! I haven’t tried L’Occitane’s almond collection so I can’t say if it’s the same. This is a gourmand almond, but it’s scrumptious!

I’m going to have to pick this up SOON!

    1. Cassie, I started doing a double cleanse for body before I ever heard of the term “double cleanse”, lol. I love shower gel/body wash, but I still think bar soap does a better job cleaning plus I love bar soap from Nature Island Botanicals and I don’t want to give it up. The Carols Daughter Almond Cookie Softening Body Wash smells divine. Worth picking up when you have a discount or Extrabucks at CVS or elsewhere.
