Celebrating Pantone’s New Colors of 2016 with Youngblood & Zoya

The day the new Pantone Colors of 2016 were announced, I did a quick blogpost about them. Truth be told, I wasn’t all that excited. But they have grown on me since then.

Rose Quartz and Serenity are the colors of the late afternoon sky just before sunset.

They are the colors captured in the paintings of the Luminists like Fitz Henry Lane when he painted New England harbors. Because of their quiet beauty, Rose Quartz and Serenity have made me a fan.

Rose Quartz is somewhere between a pastel pink and shell pink – a pastel pink with some orange thrown in. There seems to be some latitude in interpreting it. Serenity is a light blue but deeper than I originally thought.

Youngblood Cosmetics

Youngblood Cosmetics recently sent me two of their newish makeup products that seem to be created with Rose Quartz in mind: a loose mineral powder blush and one of their new eye shadow palettes, a quad called Vintage.

  • Merlot
  • Bordeau
  • Syrah

Vintage has a mix of matte, pearl and shimmer shadows that, to me, seem like mattes with a little kick, although they each have slightly different but not drastically different finishes. The swatches above are applied over Milani Eyeshadow Primer. Vintage is a wonderful quad for a neutral lover who’s looking for a change from beige and taupe. It has become my go-to palette because it’s perfect for travel and I’ve been away from home a fair amount lately. Plus it’s suitable for both everyday and more amped up looks. Youngblood also has a quad in shades of blue called Starlet, but I haven’t seen that one in person yet.

The gorgeous, long-wearing loose Crushed Mineral Blush, Dusty Pink, is a perfect shade of shell pink with a satin finish. Although I’m not usually a fan of loose powders, I’ve made an exception for this blush. I love it!  I’ve been wearing it every day. It apply it usually with a fan brush because it’s so pigmented. It’s a great shade for this redhead!

Youngblood Crushed Mineral Powder Blush is priced at $22 for 0.10oz/3g. The loose mineral powder blushes come in a variety of finishes (matte, satin, shimmer) and shades. The Vintage shadow quad is priced at $43 for 0.14 oz/4g, and in addition to Starlet, the blue quad, there are a number of other eye shadow quads. Youngblood Cosmetics can be purchased on the Youngblood website, at Lovelyskin.com, skin1.com, and beautifiedyou.com

What I used for this look in addition to the Youngblood Vintage Quad and Crushed Mineral Blush were:

Zoya Blu

To give Serenity its due, I’ve turned to a nail polish in my stash, Zoya Blu, a pretty baby blue pastel cream. It probably is lighter than Serenity, but it’ll have to do till I find a deeper blue shade! Zoya Blu, $9, is 5-free.

    1. Thank you, Monica! I think Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics is right up your alley 🙂

  4. I’m really a bit underwhelmed by Pantone’s 2016 colors, but I really like the Youngblood palette. That palette isn’t quite as baby pink and blue as the Pantone shades (which is probably why I like it 😉 )

    1. I felt the same way initially, but I’ve found that Rose Quartz really isn’t completely baby pink. It’s more of a shell pink – a pastel pink with a bit of orange mixed in. Makes it more wearable for me

  5. That eye shadow quad is beautiful! I wasn’t too keen on the Pantone colors, even though pink is my favorite color. I will probably be happier when spring and summer roll around and the pale colors make more sense. That Zoya polish is a winner!

I love the color of that blush, and it’s perfect on you. Absolutely perfect. The eye palette is really pretty, too.

I think nail polish is going to be the most wearable form of Serenity for most people, though I’ll break out my Nyx Macaron Lippie in Earl Grey more often spring.

    1. Thank you so much, Rachel xoxo I think the soft shades look best on me these days. The blush is so amazing and sooooooo pigmented! Hope I get to see you in the Earl Grey! Yes 🙂

  9. I LOVE the shades this year. Totally not “meh”. But totally not me either – no way can my yellow-olive skin pull off those shades 🙁

    1. Oh, what a bummer, but I can see what you mean. The Pantone duo is definitely growing on me. Whenever I’m out in the late afternoon, I see the shades in the sky and that makes me like them so much more.

  10. Honestly, I’m more excited about Rose Quartz just because any shade of blue just isn’t my thing. I did fall in love with Youngblood after I tried this quad, though. It was like butter and in all of my favorite colors

  14. I’m actually really digging this years color choices, last years to me was mehhh. I’m not a huge fan of burgundy wine shades, so I guess that’s why 2015 wasn’t my favorite. I love that Zoya polish though, I’ve got to get my hands on that!

    1. Youngblood Vintage quad really is a cute little palette. The quality of the shadows is wonderful, and I love the wine shades. The shades are similar to the LE palette from IT Cosmetics I bought in November, and my next thing is to try a look with shades from both together 🙂

  22. These colors are very on-trend! And Syrah is particularly gorgeous.

    1. Syrah from the Youngblood Vintage quad really is a wonderful shade. I wore it as part of a simple, quick makeup look just yesterday in fact 🙂

  23. Very nice colors indeed <3

    1. Thank you. They’re very sweet!
