Charlotte Tilbury New Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes! Mascara

I have been lucky to get chosen by Influenster, the social media influencers platform, to test out products from time to time.

I was really excited when I got picked to try out two new products from luxury brand, Charlotte Tilbury. Today, I will be talking about one of them, new Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes! Mascara.

The new mascara promises:

  • 24 hour lift effect
  • voluminous definition
  • lashes that are magnified and amplified
  • lengthening
  • smudge-proof, humidity-proof.

Packaging

I’m a fan of Charlotte Tilbury’s pale peach and rose gold packaging. Both shades are among my very favorites. The fat round tube of mascara with the rose gold metallic plastic top and pale peach bottom is very pretty and luxe.

Two-in-One Brush Head

Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes! Mascara has a two-in-one wand that they call a “pro precision paddle brush”. It has short plastic teeth near the tip that they say “comb and lift”

and plastic teeth that get longer and then shorter again (a football shape) toward the end of the brush head that they call the “flat side to load and lift”. You’re supposed to change the orientation of the brush head as you use it.

Try as I might, I can’t get the hang of the brush head as it is supposed to be used. Rather than having bristles all around the brush, there is a strip where there are no bristles at all. Not sure why. I am not sure if you’re supposed to twirl the brush head around as you apply the mascara.

At any rate, I just use it like any regular mascara wand. That said, on my downturned eyes, I just about always get a big clump of mascara on the outer lashes of my left eye. Not my right one, just my left. Where the clump ends up corresponds to where the wand bristles flare out. I have to go back with either the wand or a lash comb to try to get rid of the clump. It happens every time I use the mascara. Ugh.

The Mascara Formula

The formula is on the wetter side, and that is something I like. It is easy to apply subsequent coats after the earlier coat dries.

My Impressions

Choosing a mascara is such an individual decision. What works for one person may not work for another. So my results may not be your results. My experience using the mascara may be totally different from yours.

For me, the best part of the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes! Mascara is the long lasting curl. This mascara provides the best and most long lasting curl of any mascara I have used. Yay! Sometimes I curl my lashes first, and sometimes I don’t. With this mascara, curling my lashes doesn’t seem to make a difference. My formerly stick straight lashes have developed more of a natural curl over the years, but nevertheless, this mascara helps them stay that way.

The mascara formula is both lengthening and volumizing. The dark black color is definitely super black. And it does make my lashes look fatter and somewhat longer but, for me, not as long as other lengthening mascaras that I use.

After about two or three weeks of intermittent use, my issue remains the brush head. I just can’t get the hang of how it is supposed to be used to maximize the effects of the mascara formula. I end up with that clump on my outer lashes just about every time I use it. As a result, some days I just don’t feel like struggling with it, and I will go for one of my regular mascaras instead. But I am convinced that my issues with this mascara and wand are due to the downturned shape of my eyes and my somewhat wonky lashes. If you go to the Charlotte Tilbury website to check out the mascara, you will be amazed at how fantastic the mascara looks on the two models. Their natural lashes look super long, defined and mega black!

I have been putting off reviewing Charlotte Tilbury Push Up Lashes! Mascara on Influenster because my assessment of the product is complicated, both positive and negative. Oh well, it must be done and soon.

  1. The formula sounds quite good, but I am a bit perplexed by the shape of the brush head– especially after your description.

    1. I have such downturned eyes and wonky outer lashes that maybe it’s just me? I will be curious to see what others have to say about CT’s new mascara

There are so many issues I have with darn near EVERY newfangled mascara applicator these days, so I can relate. Don’t get me started on the baseball-bat sized applicators L’Oreal is foisting on us…
Also, I’m an Influenster gal myself. I need to go check out your reviews there!

    1. LOL, I know what you mean about the mascara wands. They’re nuts! I’m glad you’re on Influenster too. I will look for you and connect!

I just requested to follow you. Gabrielle L. (velvetwhip).

            Yay! Thanks!

  3. That brush is a pass from me. I always poke my eye with those kind of spiky ones!

  4. The outer packaging is a clone for others like Benefit’s Rollerlash. The mascara looks clumpy on the brush so I can see why it wouldn’t work perfectly. I like her original mascara that has a true brush. It looks like she didn’t improve her line with this though.

    1. Funny, Marcia, today I decided to open a RollerLash in brown. Although that one has a weird brush, it works much better for me. Sadly, I think this new CT mascara will end up not being used by me very often. I had been very excited about trying it

  5. Wow – that lift on your eye lashes is amazing! The wand looks like it would be difficult to master and I’m pretty amateur. I do appreciate that you gave it a few weeks try – that is dedication and a true review. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Kristi. Truth be told, I kept hoping I would get the hang of it, and figure out how to make it work for me. I haven’t tried that many products from Charlotte Tilbury, so I was really excited to get to try this new mascara. I’m sad that my eye shape, my lashes and my dexterity weren’t a good fit for this one

  6. I have trouble with that wand shape too, maybe because my lashes are naturally so wispy and brushing them is kind of pointless. Always loved CT mascara formula though!

  7. Natalie says:

I love the packaging! I haven’t used their products, but I can see myself having that same issue with the wand.

  8. I agree, choosing a mascara is an individual decision. The wand does sound disappointing, however the curl sounds impressive.

    1. The long lasting curl from Charlotte Tilbury’s new Push Up Lashes Mascara is probably the best I’ve tried. I checked out your shop, Carolyn, and I am smitten. Those heart shaped mini soaps will be mine one of these days <3

      1. Thank you!
