China Glaze Body & Sol Micro Mini Kit of Neutral Polishes

Summer 2019 is now officially over, but I’m doing a review of a summer nail polish collection. Oh well, better late than never!

In the early summer, I saw a review of the China Glaze Body & Sol Collection on another blogger’s blog, and I knew I had to have it. I love neutrals, and these beach-inspired shades were right up my alley. Fortunately, the collection had a set of minis with 6 of the shades in the collection. I bought them on Ulta.com with one of their coupons, so it set me back less than $20.

Unfortunately, just after I bought this set, I managed to get my thumb on my right hand stuck in a folding sling chair that I was trying to set up in my backyard. It was very painful, and it looks like my nail will be permanently disfigured, boo. Three and a half months later, my nail is about halfway grown out, but there’s a ridge where the old nail meets the new nail with dark blood still showing underneath the old nail. And the new nail is bumpy where I get it stuck.

So I haven’t been wearing nail polish very often this summer because I didn’t want to impede my nail from healing. That’s why it has taken me so long to get this review written. The kit as well as the individual shades are still available (and on sale), so I figured it’s not too late.

I love these micro mini bottles of nail polish. Each one contains 0.125 fl. oz. of polish, so I actually feel like I could finish at least some of the shades up, something I never do with a full size bottle. There are 6 shades in the set. The full collection contains 8 shades so this is an excellent representation.

The Body & Sol Collection was inspired by the beach. It consists of nude, copper and brownish shades inspired by sand and shells. To add a little bling to the mix, they have some shimmer, glitter and holo thrown in for good measure. Although this is a summer collection, I think it’s a year round collection of shades for neutral lovers. It’s certainly still very wearable for autumn if you’re a stickler for different shades for different seasons.

The shades in the Body & Sol Micro Mini Kit are:

  • Skinny Tipping: peach pink shimmer

  • Beach Buff: rosy silver glitter

  • Beaches & Toes: taupe shimmer

  • Copper-Tunist: brown copper shimmer

  • Glow-Worthy: brown gold holographic glitter

  • Send Hues: dark brown glitter.

The two Body & Sol shades not represented in the Micro Mini Kit are:

  • Bronze Ambition: deep copper shimmer
  • Tan-Do Attitude: milk chocolate.

Shade-wise, I think this is a perfect collection for lovers of nudes, neutrals, coppers, and brown with a little bling thrown in. I love the shades! Skinny Tipping, Beach Buff and Copper-tunist are my favorite shades.

The polishes are easy to apply with a normal brush, and they dry quickly. All but one provided full coverage in two coats. Beaches & Toes could be used as a topper, I think, but I applied 3 coats to get full coverage.

The only issue with the China Glaze Body & Sol Micro Mini Kit polishes is that they chip on my nails almost instantly. Every single shade.

I got one day of wear from them, grrrrrr. If I applied the polish at night, the next morning it would start chipping especially on the fingers I use most to do things, i.e. index fingers. I don’t know if it is just me who has this issue with the collection or everyone. But because this is so fast drying, I don’t have a problem removing the couple of chipped nails and redoing them. However, if you’re looking for a non-chipping, long-wearing polish, this collection isn’t it.

The China Glaze Body & Sol collection (the full size bottles) is available still at Ulta.com, Sally Beauty and maybe JC Penney. The Micro Mini Kit is also at Amazon on sale for $14.50. At Ulta.com, full size bottles of 5 shades are on sale for $3.75 to close them out. I think that’s the right price. In store at Sally Beauty, they are on sale for $5.19.

What do you think about the China Glaze Body & Sol collection? Are you a fan of neutrals and browns?

  1. I am so sorry to hear that you injured your finger, Allison! This is a very pretty collection, and those colors are perfect for the fall season!

    1. Thank you, Helen. My thumb nail still looks kind of awful, but I hope maybe over time the nail bed will straighten itself out/smooth out! I love the shades in this collection – just wish they were a little longer lasting

  2. Very pretty colours! Shame about the chipping though. I have that issue with just about every China Glaze polish I’ve ever tried, so I think their formula is just not for me.

    1. I only own one other bottle of China Glaze, I think, and it’s a silver glitter polish that I use around the holidays. But sadly, I am not impressed by this formula. I’m glad I’m not the only one who is disappointed by it. Thanks for weighing in, Rachel!

  3. Ouch on the injury! I would’ve cried in pain for sure. I like the shade Beach buff from this collection

    1. Getting my thumb stuck in the folding chair was soooo painful, and then later that day, i got 6 wasp stings! Bad day all around 😭 Beach Buff is my favorite shade too. Wished it wore better

  4. This is so sad. First your nail and now polishes that don’t last. The colors are fine for fall but not worth the effort of applying them if they’ll chip ASAP.

  5. I have the same issue with most of China Glaze nail polish, they seem to chip within a couple of days. There were only a handful that I can recalled lasted almost a week.
