Microbiome is a term that I’ve been reading a lot about with regard to digestive health. But it is a term that also is very relevant for our skin. It had been thought that the skin barrier was the outermost layer of our epidermis, and that its strength determined the health of our skin. But it is really the layer beyond the skin barrier that is the key to the barrier’s health and the overall look and feel of our skin: the microbiome layer. The microbiome is made up of trillions of bacteria, some good and some bad. The bad bacteria can release inflammatory enzymes that eat through the skin’s barrier resulting in redness, irritation, dryness, excess oil, and wrinkles. In order to correct and prevent these issues, it is necessary to balance the microbiome layer.

New City Beauty MicroBiome Night Mask and How It Works

In response to this new scientific discovery of how our skin works, City Beauty has developed new MicroBiome Night Mask to balance the skin’s microbiome layer, strengthen the skin’s barrier to help address skincare issues that many of us are battling. Used at night when the skin repairs itself, MicroBiome Night Mask can help us wake up to better looking and feeling skin.

MicroBiome Night Mask contains three key ingredients developed from academic skincare research:

  • BioSKN Concentrate: a combination of prebiotics and probiotics that stimulate cell turnover for plumper, younger looking skin as well as brighter, clearer skin with less excess oil and smaller pores
  • Revivyl Extract: from a plant in southern France, this extract has been scientifically shown to increase healthy cell production that is responsible for wrinkle-reducing results in just 2 weeks and more after a month
  • Kombuch-Ka Ferment: a fermented ingredient that creates more elastic, toned skin. It works by slowing down structural damage to skin via the bad bacteria and helps prevent against future damage. Furthermore, it stimulates fibroblast activity that stimulates collagen production while promoting healthy skin tone, texture and radiance.

New City Beauty MicroBiome Night Mask and How to Use It

MicroBiome Night Mask is a lovely medium-weight violet-colored cream that comes in a jar.

I use one of my many skincare spoons or paddles to apply it. A thin layer on my cleansed skin is all it takes. In fact, City Beauty suggests applying it over exfoliated skin so that it can work even better. I use exfoliating City Beauty Youth Rejuvenating Cleanser first, the red cleanser with dragon’s blood.

It is called a Night Mask because it has all the benefits of a treatment that stays on all night working in combination with skin’s reparative nighttime phase.

What’s different about MicroBiome Night Mask is that it is meant to be used alone rather than with other skincare products under or on top of it. Since I have developed a rather complex nighttime skincare routine, the simplicity of using MicroBiome Night Mask took a little faith to buy into. I wondered if I could get along without starting out with an essence, an oil, a serum beforehand. Would I wake up with parched skin, I wondered? Not to worry. When I wake up, my skin feels supple and not dry. I didn’t miss the zillion other skincare products layered on my face that I usually use at night at all! I just wake up and wash it off and go one with my daytime skincare routine.

To my nose, MicroBiome Night Mask is scent-free, and the ingredient list does not show fragrance as an ingredient. The Night Mask is gentle, and it can be used by all skin types: normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitive, and by those with acne. The pH range is 5.75 – 6.25.

MicroBiome Night Mask was created to target “skin dysbiosis”. Specifically, MicroBiome Night Mask addresses the following skin issues:

  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Redness
  • Roughness
  • Irritation
  • Patchy Skin Tone
  • Oversized Pores
  • Breakouts
  • Thinning Skin
  • Dehydrated Skin

It is meant to be used every night rather than just once in a while like other sleeping mask. Rather than just giving skin a burst of hydration, it was developed to help balance the microbiome layer and thus heal skin. Because I just received my jar of MicroBiome Night Mask a few days ago, I can discuss my long-term results yet. But it is so lovely that I am looking forward to continued use and seeing what happens. Another benefit really is time saving at night – I frankly don’t miss having to apply a myriad of products that take forever to apply.

    2. Sandy, there is something wrong with my email lately. It seems to be blocking people and not even putting them in Junk mail. It’s so weird because it is email from people I have gotten email from previously. So the lovely Hanukkah e-card you sent me seemed to get blocked since I can’t find it. I’m glad you told me, and thank you again so very much! I hope you have a lovely Christmas with your family <3
